Dead Lucky (2018)
Intriguing start but falls flat
Love Rachel Griffiths and I liked her here, especially in the first episode. But the writing becomes more mediocre as the series goes on. More unlikely and unbelievable plot twists than you can shake a stick at.
My Life Is Murder (2019)
Rings all the right bells for me
This show is smart, stylish, highly entertaining, just quirky enough. It strikes the right note for me when I'm in the mood for entertainment with a light touch. Lucy Lawless has her usual, undeniable on screen charisma and spunk. The rest of the casting is also right on track, especially Ebony Magulans as Madison.
The Pleasure of His Company (1961)
The Pleasure of this movie!!!
I've seen this film many times, including my original viewing in the theater, and have always found it charming. The casting is perfect! Fred Astaire is perhaps the only person for the role of Pogo Poole (perhaps Cary Grant could have pulled it off as well!). He is a charming, sophisticated roué, yet, in his own way, caring of his long-neglected daughter. A part written for him!!! The rest of the casting is perfect! Lily Palmer strikes the perfect note as the mother/ex-wife. Sarcastic, yet understanding of Pogo's power's. Gary Merrell, as the exasperated, but understanding and trusting husband, couldn't be better! Debbie Reynolds brings her obvious talents to the role of the daughter who is star-struck by her world-traveler father. Tab Hunter is also well cast as the rancher-fiancée.
All this, combined with the witty, sophisticated script, makes for a very pleasurable experience in film. I love this charming, little movie!!
Queen of Hearts (1989)
Heartwarming comedy/drama
I've seen this film several times and find it a heart warming comedy/drama. If you enjoy movies which make you laugh, make you cry, this is a good one for you. It is about an Italian family living in England in, I believe, the 1950s. It's ambiance and feeling remind me of several of my other favorites. It has some mystical elements are reminiscent of The Milagro Beanfield War. It's family focus reminds me of Shower, a wonderful Chinese film about a father and 2 sons, who run a Beijing bathhouse. I find the story engaging, the acting to be quite good and the depiction of England in this period to be interesting. I have had difficulty finding it for rental of late so may actually purchase this one.
