A good watchable Ukrainian fantasy movie.
18 February 2018
A good watchable Ukrainian fantasy movie. It is about a schoolboy who fears heights who gets sucked into some sort of vortex and is transported thousands of years into the past. the acting was very good and I was quite impressed with the fight scenes which was very good. It did not look like the special effects was cheap either. And to top it all it had a good storyline

The only problem was the sub titles which were a bit hit and miss in places as in some parts it is at a good speed that you can read it , then in other parts the sub title just flew past.

Soylent Green (1973)
Old film but story relevant for today
10 January 2009
I have just watched Soylent green - never heard of it before just stumbled upon it while channel hopping.

I wasn't expecting to stay with the film, but I got taken in by the story line. 1973 movie and people supposedly in 2022. What struck me was "Soylent green" (Soya lentil) made from people.

The film really got me thinking about stuff which is going on in the world today with all this genetically modified foods. I mean, if they can give cows dead animals to eat - cows are meant to be vegetarians!! (which we now get mad cows disease) - what the hell are we eating with all these preservatives and stuff in foods today.

Although this film is slow moving, it really gets you thinking what the government maybe hiding from all of us.

A great moment in the film is when Charlton Heston steals some food from a rich persons house (Things we take for granted) A bar of soap, am apple, a small bit of beef and some alcohol. When Edward G Robinsons sees and touches these, he breaks down and cries.

Another great moment in the film is when Charlton Heston and Edward G Robinson sit round the table to have dinner with the food which they now have. They saviour every moment, and it was funny when Charlton Heston states he has never eaten like this before or even with a fork!!

Again, we today take for granted the food, drink and stuff we have in abundance. What will we do if they are no longer there as in this film!!!

A worthy film to take note of

Hey - nice feel good movie!!
20 March 2008
I have been reading all your comments, and I think some of the comments are a bit overboard in the dislikes!! Come on lets not take this too seriously or take things to heart, this movie might not be in the Oscar stakes, and Monique may in time become a good actress - but it is nice to see a film which has a lovely happy ever after.

I think it is nice to see a movie which has the fat girl being chased by a hunk who loves big sized women, because in this world on size 0, its like fat girls don't exist unless they are fancied by fat men.

Yes, the movie is not taxing on the brain and it certainly is easy on the thinking brain after a reality bitten hard days at work.

I enjoyed the film immensely and i am just treating as one entertaining forgettable film. Just like the movie for what it is - an easy on the brain feel good movie.

Nice to see the majority like this Bristish comedy
29 March 2007
I Was very surprised at reading the comments on Chef and that the comments are from mostly people oversees!!! (where are you Brit's to support this) I remember when Chef came out in England, and I only watched the first season which i thought was absolutely hilarious. My favourites where Everton and also Chef's father.

I am very surprised that it is being shown on BBC America, as It has not been repeated in England as far as I can a remember (correct me if i'm wrong - it may of been repeated on cable before I actually had it).....

BBC PLEASE REPEAT IN ENGLAND

Love Lives On (1985 TV Movie)

Based on a true story
24 March 2007
I'm not really into these slash wrist type movies and as a general rule, I normally tend to avoid. But this morning on True Movies 2, I was caught of guard watching this as I could not find the remote to turn the T.V over.

I must say, watching this film did give me food for thought. It is based on a true story about Susan at 14 was out of control. Her parents force her into a drug rehab program to recover. They also uncover that she is suffering from cancer, and by 15, she has met and fallen in love with Brian.

It is a very tangled and not straight forward love story, especially when Susan becomes pregnant and her cancer seems to be spreading, and her and Brian having to make difficult decisions.

It is very heartbreaking, and I must say, the acting from Mary Stuart Masterson, prompted me to look on IMDb to see who she is.

It did not cry as I have a very hard exterior, but for most this would be a tearjerker.

Very easy on the brain
2 February 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This film is very easy on the brain. Duane Martin and Kelly Rowland take the lead in this very untaxing romantic-com movie.

Theirs not much to it. Boy meets girl out of his league. Boy tells girl lies about who he his. Girl eventually finds out that boy is not who he says he is, girl throws a strop does not return his telephone calls (cliché cliché cliché)!!!! then eventually girl and boy meet again and fall in love ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!.

boom boom...........

Acting was not great from Kelly Rowland but she will get their in the end. Mel B's acting was very disappointing, I kept cringing every time she spoke and I was hoping cos she is a fellow British, I would be their cheering her on (unfortunatly not on this occasion).

Definitely one to watch on regular TV with a nice cup of coco then nod off.

Nearly missed my catamaran ride in cuba for watching this!!
1 December 2006
I only discovered this movie while on holiday in Cuba. I went back to my hotel to get a towel and this movie started.

Well I thought let me just watch the beginning as I have sometime to kill before I go for my catamaran ride Well that was it, I was hooked, couldn't believed that this sweet girl from Africa (lindsey Lohan), could slowly but surely get entwined with the monsters called the "Plastics".

I really thought it was hilarious at times and only got up to the part when Lindsey Lohan threw a party at her parents house........................................

Well I went on my boat ride, missed the rest of the film and only caught up with it when I came back to England.

well I must say it got more funnier then it got a disappointing in the end (all that slushy apology nonsense) but great fun all the same.

I've decided now I,m gonna become a Plastic !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

British Hitchcock film Noir
1 December 2006
Well this gloomy doomey looking film, really set of my miserable day which was just as gloomy and miserable outside. This bleak film set mostly in marsh land added a certain slash wrist genre to this film.

Davidson (John Mills) is a man who has just been released from doing a 12 year stint in prison for a crime he did not commit. Seething with revenge, he starts out looking for the people who set him up so he can administer his revenge.

I must say, after a while this film was engaging, and I sat through and watched to the end. At times is was slow and wordy but also came over as a bit of early Hitchcock film noir.

Good old Black and white Gothic thriller
29 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this film yesterday on Film 4 - I quited liked this film in some parts. Upon watching, I realised this film was really about family breakdown. You sometimes think that family problems are more of a modern thing of today - but back then they had their fair share of family upheaval, back stabbing and murder in mind.

This film is a Gothic, atmospheric melodrama about Caroline played by a young Jean Simmons as a 16/17-year-old who goes to live with her uncle Silas (Derrick de Marney)after her father dies. Uncle Silas house is some big creepy Mansion with lots of cob webs dark corners and dungeon like stairs and rooms. While there creepy uncle Silas, his son and a french governess plot to kill Caroline and keep her inheritance.

I though Derrick de Marney at times performance of Uncle Silas was not creepy enough, as it verged towards being comical. The french governess Madame de la Roughierre (played by Katrina Paxinau)was very creepy and sinister, especially when she takes Caroline on a journey of extreme deception. She was menacing Caroline every step of the way. Her performance made up for the loss in Derrick De Marney non evil performance. Caroline (Jean Simmons) sometimes gave a weak performance which probably was down to some weak and prissy dialogue. Sometimes I felt I could of climbed in the telly and give her a good slapping and tell her to pull herself together and be strong!!!!

A Criminal Midget passing himself off as a baby to get his ill-gotten gains back
28 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I was not impressed about this film especially for the fact that I went to the cinema with my family in good faith to see a film which was certificate rated 12A here in the UK. To my dismay, this film was full of embarrassing sexual jokes. (Which is not a problem to me as an adult, but not good for watching with children). This film at times was very crude at times with fart jokes, getting hit in the groin etc... and for the most part of the film not very funny.

The premise of the film is that Calvin Sims who is a 2inch midget, gets out of jail and steals a giant sized diamond but is then forced to put it in a womens handbag. So the rest of the movie sees him passing himself off as an abandoned baby, getting into this womens house so he can get this diamond back.

Up until now, I have enjoyed most of the output from the Wayans Brothers - but this film is certainly taking the biscuit.

A Bit of good advice - wait till it comes on TV or Cable
