Ted Lasso: Sunflowers (2023)
Totally loved it
This is the best episode of Ted Lasso I have seen so far. Yes I live in Amsterdam and that's making it special, but if they all went on the train to Paris instead it still would have been a special episode. I loved Beard after hours in Londen because of its quirkyness and this episode partially has the same atmosphere. But it has more to offer. There's lots of kindness between the team members, the boss and her Dutch saviour on a house boat, Jamie and Roy on a bike and Ted while enjoying Museum Night. And in the end Ted sees the light. No more spoilers here except it it turns out Beard speeks Dutch. That is really gezellig. Great episode.
The Quiet Ones (2014)
Period piece with matching suspense
This film plays in the '70s and what I remember from Hammer and other companies at that time, is perfectly matched in this film. It really is '70s suspense. Maybe some youngers viewers feel this is slow and boring, but that's the way it is ment to be. I really like it and enjoyed watching it. A slow buildup to the inevitable doom and gloom ending which is also true to style and the 70's.
Jared Harris and Olivia Cooke are great as always. They appearantly saw the potential of this film and their acting really helped me in getting pulled into the story and the sense of impending doom. If you're a Hammer fan, watch this film.
Save Our Squad (2022)
Scripted documentary
This feels like a scripted documentary. The boys are not always spontaneous in their reaction. Beckham is fake. Shots from Beckham visiting a boy in winter are followed by Beckham in his car discussing his visit "just made" with trees with leaves in the background. Other continuity errors similar to that. Beckham not being able to visit games for some reason but watching on his phone. Same shots reappearing over and over again.
Over all, this is not about Beckham saving a team, but Beckham acting and telling boys to work hard and respect their parents and love their family. Bwah. Beckham driving around London in his Masarati, having some perks organized like a visit to Wembley and boys overacting they all love it. The real heroes are the coaches: they are always there for their boys and they really do care.
The Con Is On (2018)
I do not understand the resentment
I had an excellent time watching this movie and I especially like the european take on hollywood. Since I'm not british, I'll call it that. Great performance. I guess you need to know 60's films to really appreciate this flick. The opening titles are hilarious and no, they do not take too long for a 1960's movie. Kodus for all involved.
