The Mule (2018)
Clint's superpowers
He is a living example. The movie is good but I was awestruck and amazed at how much life he has on him!
I loved his story telling skills. The linear narrative and true to real life. The sense of humour used to partially make fun of DEA agents who could for once even suspect that a white American grandpa could work as a mule for a Mexican drug cartel.
Genius!
You are looking at a legend, a truly living legend!
The Pursuit of Happyness (2006)
Uplifting but Ideological in essence
This is a very good movie and I would recommend it to everyone. It is the beautiful, dramatic, and romantic story of a father and son struggling with every day's life problems of present past and future.
I think is very well written, and although it was inspired by a true story there are some faults with the plot which affects the final product, especially in regards to its relation to the 'real'. I personally discovered a hidden ideological message (nothing wrong with it what so ever), that is, you have to be efficient like a machine in a world of deadly competition. The situation surrounding the main character is one of constant stress. He is under perennial judgement by all the institutions surrounding him. He seems to be constantly under assessment, in often hidden ways. For example, you can especially see it in some scenes during the internship, when his supervisors ask him to do things to test how good, how efficient, how multitasky he is. That maybe possible however the facts shouldn't be represented in such a unilateral perspective and uncritical way. I would have appreciated a more thoughtful representation, so that the 'American way of life' doesn't come out as the only possible path to 'happiness'....especially in a time when American is brought to dramatically recognise the existence of culturally/politically different agendas which do not just disappear.
Che ora è? (1989)
This movie will speak to generations to come!!
Mastroianni and Troisi show in this movie what it means to be a honest actor. They act in the Italy of the late 80s. The feelings of modernity mix with the memories of the past. Mastroianni is a father who doesn't know his son for who he truly is. This makes him suffer, nonetheless Scola sends the message that it is never to late to sort out some sort of compromise between a father and son who love each other. Troisi on his part represents a character who lives life without all the fuss buzzing the 'successful' life. In those days as well as today a really difficult thing to do. The simplicity and cleanliness with which they share their feelings as characters is really fulfilling. This movie is a gift they made to us and both actors and director delivered a truly minimalist piece of art. Thank you!!!!
