Too Good to be True (2024)
Waste of two good actors!
I love Allen Leech in Downton and The Enigma film but he was wasted here. What a terrible ridiculous plot. So many holes.
Who was Simone ? How long had she known what he was up to and still carry on working for him ? How did Elliot make all his money? Why did the ex girlfriend suddenly appear say a couple of sentences then disappear ? Where was the security in a great big house like that? What happened to the cat?
When Rachel said he was not the child of her violent ex partner I was convinced that the boy was from a sperm donor and he was really Elliot's and he tracked him down. What a better story that would have been!
Lessons in Chemistry (2023)
Truly wonderful
What a treat this series was. I've just finished watching all episodes and I spun out the last two as I really didn't want it to end!
Beautifully told story with superb acting by all the characters .
The child ( exceptional acting by Alice Halsey) and the dog , were especially endearing. I found myself very tearful on several occasions.
I see that Lewis Pullman is son of Bill ( another of my favourite actors) and was so pleased how his characters back story was portrayed throughout.
Along with Bad Sisters this has got to be an Apple TV awards contender and is worth the subscription just for these two gems.
Mayflies (2022)
Absolutely brilliant BBC
I knew if I waited long enough, something brilliant would come along after all the festive rubbish and repeats we are fed year after year .....and here it is ( along with Happy Valley of course).
The acting was superb, by both the younger and older versions of the characters. Martin Compstons best role since Line of Duty. I loved it and will watch it again.
It contained all the right elements on a sensitive subject. It was moving, informative and also funny in parts. The end scene was just right.
The time slips were also very well done. And whats more, no ' Wokeness' .
Please let's have more like this.
Echo 3 (2022)
Continuity, Continuity,
Sorry...have given up after episode 4. My husband and I struggle to find things we both like to watch together and I thought this was it... but no, after a reasonable start it deteriorated into farce.
So Bambi buries all his gear while he goes to find whiskey... he walks into town with just a vest and khakis on , but goes out at night with a crisp white shirt on and new jeans, where did they come from? Gets purposely beaten up and ends up with such a black eye but not one broken bone ...in the next scene the black eye has disappeared and he has new clothes again!
Back in the US , the ( gorgeous) Prince recovers from being shot faster than the Bionic man! Goes to his fathers office to meet the Senator all clean shaven.. next scene he's talking with her in the foyer with a full face of stubble!
Meanwhile, back in the jungle the kidnapped wife who had a pink T-shirt on for 3 episodes has suddenly acquired a whole new outfit!
The black FBI guy and his boyfriend had a short scene but the acting by both was dreadful.
Sorry to be picky but it is all over the place!
Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris (2022)
Wonderful and Charming
Films like this tend to fill our local cinema day after day. I struggled to book a seat.
It's such a refreshing, easy to watch movie with Fabulous clothes from the late 50's .
Also, in the background of the story there was a running strike by the French . That's unusual!!
Lesley Manville and Jason Isaacs are two of my favourite actors and this is so right up my street. Funny in parts, sad in parts. Befriending the tramp in the Gare du Nord was a bit far fetched but you know it's going to end ok.
Just what we need after a crappy year.
When this finally comes to mainstream TV I shall be watching it many more times.
Firefly Lane (2021)
SO well done
Just finished Series 1 and can't wait for 2.
I had to watch first episode twice to get the gist of the different era's ..but Wow what a wonderful story of friendship, love, jealousy and secrets . It has it all. It's well acted throughout , especially by the younger versions of the main characters. The switching of timelines is superbly done . Just the right amount of diversity too. PLEASE don't spoil the format in 2!
The Power of the Dog (2021)
I waited
And waited... but had to give it up after an hour. Slow and boring. What a waste of a stellar cast. The 3 stars are for Kirsten.
Only really seen one decent Cumberbatch film, Imitation Game .
Nine Perfect Strangers (2021)
Awful
I read the Liane Moriaty book a while ago and thought it was rubbish.
Gave the series 2 episodes just in case it turned into something glorious like Big Little Lies ( didn't read that book) ... but had to give it up because it didn't.
Just finished another of her books called The Husbands Secret and wow there's a book that could be a film.
House of Gucci (2021)
Long movie
But oh so good. I'm Italian and I didn't find too much fault with accents like many of the reviewers. Gaga was excellent. Al Pacino...mmm not so much. Didn't know much about the Gucci story but this was a really good insight into the family feud. Held my interest throughout.
The Starling (2021)
Beautiful
Best film I've seen on Netflix for ages . Tender, moving storyline and at times gloriously funny. (Especially the light switch cover!)
Never seen anything with Melissa McCarthy before and she was a joy. Loved Kevin Kline role too.
Yesterday (2019)
Oh Dear
3 for Lily James. Also thought the singing was ok. The rest of it, Why?
Virgin River (2019)
Watching it all again
Love this series. Started off thinking it was too smaltzy but really got into it . It was top of my lockdown tv . Made a change to watch something that is not blood and guts. Great chemistry between the lead characters . Martin Henderson is gorgeous . Never watched Greys anatomy but will now for some more Martin.
Trial by Fire (2018)
Very powerful. Held my interest
I started out disliking this character but had changed my mind by the end of it. I found the story to be very intriguing and ended up feeling very sad.
A well put together film with good leading characters.
