The Stranger (2022)
Neat, powerful, very human...
Such a powerful movie. It is perfectly slow and stressful. The actors are brilliant, their dialogues so neat and human. Knowing that it is based on a true story, it makes me realise what an incredible job the police did there. It is subtle, smart. It is not one of those brilliant-criminal genius-cop unrealistic hollywood blockbusters. I loved it. The two main actors had so much depth and were so convincing, but the supporting cast was also brilliant, with some unexplained glances, stutters and details (not Hollywood ones). The demanding, harrowing movie that the story behind probably deserved.
Waiting for the Fall (2015)
Great movie!
If you are lucky enough to find a place where it's shown, go for it. It is totally worth watching it. I found that it was a great movie with inspiring actors and an interesting storyline. It was also an emotional roller-coaster, a bit like some Kusturica movies when you are not always sure if you should laugh or cry... I also liked that some things were not said and characters were not just plain likable or dislikable. There are characters you can't help liking, although they may have done terrible things. The way all these characters (volleyball players, neighbours, soldiers, etc etc) had to survive and keep going (one way or the other), it's quite a challenging topic. An informed westerner would have lots of things to think about after that movie... I loved it, I really loved it. It's the best movie I have seen in many years.
Snowpiercer (2013)
Great movie: it's poesy, not dentist appointment
I just saw the movie and I enjoyed it a lot. It is not meant to be coherent all the time, I am surprised that people would spend time criticising for instance that you can't fire bullets from one side of the train to the other side. Godness gracious, it's a fiction movie, it's not a documentary! No, surrealist movies are not realist, period. That you'd spend so much time focussing on technical details and missing the whole point of the movie, that must be quite an awful experience to go to the movies... :) I love for instance that Joon-ho Bong sometimes gets rid of the translation machine: good on ya! we've got it, we understood that they don't speak the same language, now we can focus on something else. I loved the movie, except for a few bits (such as the children topic + the girl's special something). A really good movie.
