Deadloch (2023– )

So unreal
7 June 2023
I love detective stories, crime/law procedurals, any type of mystery story, especially foreign ones. Thought this might be a good thing but I'm really confused as to the writer's ideas. As in any mystery, dead bodies keep showing up, but the prime detective is foiled by loud crude mouthed female Eddie. The main character is trying really hard to get to the bottom of these murders, but Eddie is over the top with blatantly idiotic theories. The Eddie character is so annoying I can't get past how much I despise her! And why my God, are there so many others horribly annoying lesbian characters in this small Tasmanian? Town.

Confusing, annoying and yuck.

World War Z (2013)

Best Zombie Flick Ever
10 March 2023
In 2013 when World war Z came out, I was many years into the AIDS epidemic. Everyone thought at that time that we were all going to die immediately. So AIDS didn't kill us but some other bad unknown disease would - Zombie Disease!!!!!!!

Best of the film is how the so called zombies are so much faster than others in different movies. WAY scarier!! Don't know if Brad Pitt directed this film but his crazy action roles works 100%. Watched this at the theatre and was blown away. Probably the 100% best zombie flick every!!!!

So who t f is telling me that I've gotta write a million words about how good this movie was?? Drop dead IMDB.

Wish lions win
26 February 2023
Read many reviews before/while watching this disaster of a movie, and I have to agree with some about how cringe the daughters' acting is. Annoying teenagers seem to be the norm in recent films.

The script has so many unrealistic ideas. The best is the cinematography - Africa looks as beautiful as it should be.

My main complaint is that no one cares specifically why the lion is attacking. Let's just kill all the poachers and let the lions, giraffes, rhinos, leopards, etc. Have their homes back free from stress and fear.

Lions should rule Africa and Idris Elba should go back to playing Luther.

WOW drama
3 February 2023
Everything about this S Korean drama is top notch. The story moves along with no slow boring bits, actors are believable and really invested in their roles. Camera work is nothing spectacular, but then again, this isn't an art house film. Technically, 100% right.

The story, which is basically all a movie/series needs to keep the audience invested, is well written, with intelligent, believable conversations even while watching with subtitles.

I won't go into all the details of the two main families, but it's all twisted political intrigue, with flashback explanation helping carry the story.

Episode 12 - the last: Reality. I found myself shrieking at my TV. OMG NO!! That did not just happen!! Why, but hey, that's good TV. Worthy of the 12 hours you'll invest and the 9 stars I gave.

The Butler (I) (2013)

Beautiful Black History
4 January 2023
The Butler is a honest, realistic history lesson. From Cecil Gaines' (the Butler) time as a sharecroppers son, whose mother is raped and father is murdered by white Georgia farm owner (Alex Pettyfer) to his work in hotels until he ends up working at the White House in 1957 and beyond, this is a wonderful but sad history.

Forest Whitaker as Cecil - The Butler and Oprah Winfrey as his long suffer wife are wonderful. Star-studded cast, including Mariah Carey, Vanessa Redgrave (small part), Clarence Williams III, Terrence Howard, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Lenny Kravitz, John Cusack, Robin Williams, Liev Schreiber, Jane Fonda, Alan Rickman and so many other great actors.

The ending brings tears and I want anew black President now.

The Glory (2022– )

Revenge is Sweet
31 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
An 8 episode Korean revenge tale that anyone who has been bullied can relate to, The Glory is well done all around.

I'm not sure how high schools compare Korea vs. America in terms of bullying, but as shown here, Korean teens seem super mean and cringeworthy. The main character, Dong-eun is picked on verbally, burnt with a curling iron by classmates, then slapped by school administrators. She drops out due to the abuse, then works menial jobs and studies to eventually go to university. All the while, she's plotting revenge on her high school tormentors.

As far as I can tell, there isn't anything wrong with the technical aspects of this production, the script, dialogue, sets, editing are all great. By far the best aspect is the emotions The Glory May cause one to feel. As a poorer child, I wanted the rich, entitled girls to "get theirs".

So well done.

A feeling blockbuster
17 November 2022
Obviously a high dollar movie. Good actors, photography, set dressing (that matters way more than most people think), and of course the CGI.

The emotion of the script behind the horrible actions of the British makes me root for the Indian people. I want the evil Governor but more, his wife to die!!!

Doesn't matter where this takesplace, we root for the people being pushed violently out.

Great Job on all sides.

How can a review be too short when it's heartfelt??? I read other reviews that were shorter and I'm way confused; therefore I've got to be upset by giving a short, sweet message. Thanks.

Not Blaring From Heavens
11 November 2022
Those huge blasts of sound heard from the sky years ago and posted all over the internet intrigued and frightened people all over the world. It's a subject that could make a great movie. Lots of folks have been waiting for something like this. Unfortunately, Project Skyquake doesn't fulfill our wishes.

Another amateur/found footage flick with a minuscule bit of real actors just bored me. I want some real scientific explanation along with excitement, action or at least scares.

The last 5 or 6 minutes are creepy in a sort of alien way. That's it. Not enough scares, weirdness, or real sci-fi to suit any intelligent person.

I liked the movie, but I'd like to ask Native or First Peoples what their opinions are about the historical bits. At least the cast is authentic. The scenery is beautiful, even though I'm not sure of the location. Naru's dog is awesome.

Second rate remake of Norwegian film "Kraftidiotum", starring Stellan Skarsgaard. Why must perfectly fine foreign films be made English speaking? Is it because any foreign language with subtitles is too difficult for Americans? Unnecessary.

IMDB said I could watch this sci-fi show that I was extremely interested in on FreeVee, but couldn't find it on that or Prime so I'm pissed. Get the facts right.

Sadness is inevitable
26 May 2022
While watching this first episode, I was so upset because of the portrayal of older people. Bad enough to be treated as silly, but their children and grandchildren think they know what is best for them. Why can't older adults whose brains work be left alone, even if it's to die on their own terms? JK and Sissy are amazing in their roles.

About your children. This episode was so heartbreaking. Is CoCo dead? Or what?

My experience with Chicano culture broke me too. Guess that's why I like this show so much.

Show should have finished already
11 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Finished the 2nd season. Almost want to puke, because a third season should NOT have happened. Audience is cheated once again. Obviously, the entire thing is based on a research program, but for what purpose?

I watched the first season(girls) all the way through. Interesting enough. Second season adds (boys), but interspersed with flashbacks of girls situation. This time I fast forwarded through a lot of the girls juvenile dialogue to get over to the boys side, which I found more interesting.

Everything comes together and explodes at the end with no real ending, unfortunately. Rachel Griffiths character, (Dr. ?) and her psycho killer son are shown and no resolution.

All the Boys and Girls are thrown together and apparently there are going on to another horrible situation as directed by this psychopath doctor.

So there you are.....

A Question

Why doesn't IMDB have any specs on the music/soundtrack from the film? As I begin to watch, I hear a great song Cumberland Gap? And can't find any reference. The movie is great, but I like to know all the little details, also.

Retro Fantasy Action
30 April 2022
As a response to Evme from 2019 who asks where are the scars on Doris, the lead female character, if you're looking closely, they show on the back of her neck.

Another response goes out to several people who didn't seem to understand the anachronistic aspects, with cars from 4 different decades, clothing and hairstyles from the 50s, but cellphones, too; I'm pretty sure this is a comic, fantasy world. Why my belief: one episode begins with a war in The Archipelago. Pretty such this is a fictional war?

Characters are crazy, but still sympathetic. I love the old cars, clothes, music and pinup girl stuff!

Dogs are our Best
24 April 2022
Boy, the Red Australian Cattle dog is my hero in the movie, second only to Michael Rooker's character and his sidekick, Minnow.

The wimpy protagonist has spent all his years since an apocalypse hiding, but goes on a quest to find his adolescent girlfriend (Aimee) 85 miles away.

Why are all the AIs called Mavis, btw?

Maybe the director thought a soft hearted guy would be a good hero, but sorry, this is a survival flick, right?

It's just a dog Iverson!

Warning: Spoilers
IMHO, the dogs are the heroes in the movie. I get so upset when I see people treating them like machines or such. I'm howling at the screen when Bjorn drops into a chasm.

100+ years ago men thought exploring the Poles would be important work, but get them famous, too. Crazy to think they went to the ends of the earth with such basic gear.

Good adventure movie.

Good Medical bio-drama
17 April 2022
Wow! Somewhat of the same thing happened to me, but my neurosurgeon and lab techs didn't find an actual diagnosis. I related, except mine came on faster and I had trouble walking straight and holding my urine. Couldn't even hold an entire straight conversation. The clock thing was the last I remember before MRI and surgery.

Suzanna's illness was cured through medication in 2017. Since my problems came couple years before this, now I'm wondering if I had the same.

Anyway, it's an interesting story made into a semi-biographical film.

Police procedures for amateurs
16 April 2022
The past 12+ years I've been watching Bollywood movies turn into real world art. Lagaan was the first of this kind I watched. In the that have passed, the entire country of India has opened up to outsiders and its wonderful!

Mai is just the most recent thing I've got to rave about.

Mother feels her daughters death was more than an accident and tried to find out the truth even though she's naive and has trouble maneuvering the incredibly difficult and sometimes corrupt police system.

Loved it.

Average sci-fi survival movie
15 April 2022
The Dark Lurking, a supposed 2021 sci-fi free Amazon Prime flick, is listed as 2009 on IMDB.

Story is that a scientific research facility on an unknown planet is in distress. Soldiers have been sent to help the civilians left behind. Lots of shooting and gore, but a lot is in the darkness of power outage, of course. Humans are mutating into monsters, another given.

The actors are a mixed bag of (maybe) Americans and Australians, also mixed in their acting abilities.

Steals from other tragedy, action and survival in space movies, but that's okay because most B movies do the same.

I finished it, but Doom it's not!

Youngest P.I. ever
15 April 2022
To start, the actress who plays Camilla Ramsey, the PI, isn't very believable. Most of the others actors are so-so. The story of a copycat killer basing his crimes on a book has been done before, and better.

Watchable, but also forgettable, so it's gets a solid 5.

Seems real, like a small southern town I grew up in
14 April 2022
I must complain about the polarization of these reviews. This movie is neither a 1 nor a 10. It's a solid somewhere right in the middle. Most of the actors have been around awhile and done interesting work. The hick town is believable and the characters are, too.

Best to me, though, is the script. I swear the dialogue is straight out of my youth.

So haters and trolls, begone. Stop messing with folks who really care.

Exciting, twisted spy thriller
12 April 2022
Not many movies make me tear up or cry this late in my life, but I loved this thrilling, complicated film. A coup d'etat in North Korea leads to a soldier rescuing the President and taking him to South Korea to get medical care to save his life. This will avert nuclear war, but many spies, etc. Are loose and conspirators are everywhere.

A complicated movie, and never boring. Very good.

This doesn't even seem like a documentary, it's more like one of those crazy action flicks. It's too bad the cops circled around the so called armed and dangerous perps car didn't shoot themselves. Maybe a real honest investigation would have happened.
