Hitting the Breaks (2016)
Why do people call themselves Christian, yet they do not do Christian things/do non-Christian things?
The president isn't known for his faith. He connects with Evangelicals by voicing the legal, social, religious and cultural grievances of the Christian right.
David AR White does the same. Art is not pandering, dude. Art is not making carbon copies of better shows. This one is awful. Rob Schneider. Really? Lol. This lame knock off more popular shows such as Modern Family, Schitt's Creek, and Man of the House. Let's check out the hokey acting, painful storylines, and outdated gender roles that we've come to expect from this Evangelical Christian streaming service. He should make a movie about why divorce is okay for Christians. Oh wait.... it isn't. Which is weird, since he professes to be a Christian.
Let me introduce what David AR White is. It's not Christian. It's called "Pharisaic." Someone who exaggerates how morally upright or pious she is can be called pharisaic. Another way to say it is "holier-than-thou." Pharisaic people tend to talk a lot about how devout and religious they are, but their actions don't quite measure up to their words. The word pharisaic has its roots in the Greek Pharisaios, which in turn comes from an Aramaic word, perishayya, or "separate." In the history of Judaism, the Pharisees were an important school of religious thought.
Red 11 (2018)
Yes, it's mostly for the love of the craft.
This would be like Tarantino and Avary writing a fictional film based on two guys working in a movie geek video store. Since we will never have that, I'm glad there is the Video Archives podcast. This fictional piece is based on the research hospital where Robert Rodriguez sold his body to finance his first feature, El Mariachi. This production is a fun one, purely for the same reason one would watch EL MARIACHI. You want to see how he does it. Writer, Director, Cinematographer, AND Editor. Usually, he's also the score composer. Also, I'm happy to see the deluge or ridiculous hater ratings deleted from this page. If you hate Rodriguez, then you clearly hate filmmaking.
Arkansas (2020)
As bland as the director
Michael Cera, Derek Waters, and Simon Helberg are the talent of these four guys. Duke is the weird one out. Unremarkable, passable, and a shame my hipster Aura he seems to cling to even as an actor. If he gets past his inner child, I can see some creativity there. It just hasn't happened yet. A screenplay, a role, and a soundtrack all aged way out of his ourvre, makes a bring film.
Bushwick (2017)
Almost there.
The soundtrack is the standout. Aesop does an amazing job pulling you in with a Tangerine Dream-like score. The script is very clipped and no nonsense. My only complaint is the facade that the shots are one-takes. I'd say there are easily 50 edits here, so not sure why they felt the need to ROPE in the viewer? Filmmakers, would love your input here.
Dare Me (2019)
Great show. Description is wrong.
This show is fantastic. Dark, moody, relevant. But the description of revenge is wrong. Not what the show is about at all.
