Beyond Evil (2021)

alright first few eps, then last few eps were predictable and draggy.
10 July 2023
The writers did very well to keep the suspense and twist at the first half of the series. Then half way through till the last few eps it was predictable and draggy. I wouldn't recommend it, but comparison to this, I highly recommend Through the Darkness, where every moment of the series is really intriguing. Some of the acting and scenes of Beyond Evil were typical of Korean drama series where they drag to fill up the duration. I really had trouble staying awake of the last few eps and wished they have tried more plot points to keep us interested. Music was lame too after awhile and over dramatic for mediocre moments.

Sweet Tooth (2021– )

Watched the Pilot didn't work for me
12 June 2021
Pilot Ep1 was predictable with all the usual beauty shots and hipster music. Guess that's what most people want, but after watching several shows already with that same treatment, this seem to be a bore to me. Maybe it's good if it was something typical everyone wants, but if you are looking for something intrigue and keep you guessing and be surprise of the plot, maybe can skip this. I would try again for another 2-3 episodes since I'm a support of indie comics especially from the creator Jeff Lemiere.

Pretty decent HK gangster movie since awhile.

a reasonable good HK gangster movie since awhile! PLUS the chick is hot! Definitely worth the time, very real language, CG although a little fake with the blood, but still, it's a violent and not too dumb down gangster flick.

It is always pleasurable to watch Chapman To. Can't say the same for Anthony Wong, it's been awhile since any good roles has hit him, what's with the Godfather voice? I only can blame the director.... ANYWAY the wife of Chapman To in the film starring Bonnie Sin, she is hot and pretty decent acting, and very sexual, surprised that is no data of her being in this film, I don't even think there is an IMDb page of her. Tried looking her up in the internet, also nothing much on her.

Definitely worth the time, it has comedy element, action, surprise and a little love, friendship and brotherhood.

Don't expect too much of the script though, but still it's not bad, not being too over the top and just entertaining enough.

SPOILER (MAYBE) No plot revealed, but an appraisal to the premise and treatment of the movie.

Warning: Spoilers
This is a great movie. I wonder why the low IMDb ratings. anyway, IMDb has pretty bad ratings on good Asian films. At least to the Hong Kong ones. Anyway, this so is a good movie.

The story might not be something new or the treatment, but overall, it serves its purpose; to bring human back closer to humanity, environment, knowledge, innovation, and most importantly love and friendship.

Why do I place 'friendship' last to the equation? Because although this movie is about the love relationship of 2 persons, it ends with a high note on 'friendship'.

And 'freedom', in the sense for the (all) HK filmmakers. The China unification and the migration of the people away from Asia. Although this movie has set its weight more towards 'staying' then leaving.

Great heartfelt music too by the way! And not forgetting the art department that has put tons of effort to wow audiences in the big screen of the cinema, which I wish I could turn back time and catch this at the cinema instead of my home TV.

Overall, this is a 110% enjoyable movie that also gave me some teary moments.

Bravo-bravo-bravo!

SPOILER: Under rated! Serious film watchers, read this!

Warning: Spoilers
This is a brilliant movie. It's good description of how plague the life of being at the city can be.

It was ahead of it's time.

The reason the rating is so low, it's because it was judge by the people at the time when Infernal Affairs was a big hit. Everyone was expecting this to be a similar film.

But it's not, it wasn't meant to be anyway.

It is meant to be a movie about the suffering of people from the city. The things that one would do in able to survive, or vengeful.

An eye for an eye.

The extreme you would do in able to achieve your goals.

This is what this movie is about. Please do not let IMDb's low rating discourage you from trying this movie.

Find it, give it a try, it might inspired you write similar city stories ;)

My 2 cents,

Chin Yew

Pretty decent and entertaining. Watching Ivana Wong in her debut stunning performance it's already well worth the time to watch!

What's with the low rating? To me, this is a pretty decent film.

Pretty entertaining. Something I dare say it's been awhile for HK movies.

Ivana Wong's debut performance is already worth the time! Love her scene with Ronald Cheng. Very touching and moving. Knowing her from her real personality of shy and low profile, this is great effort and displaying her wide talent of acting. She also won/nominated several awards for this role.

And love the singing scene with Ronald Cheng, they both showed off their natural singing voice. Wonderful scene!

This movie has a positive note about living and survival, and also a good tribute to classic HK songs.

Definitely worth the time!
