Cowboy Bebop (2021)
I loved the anime too
I loved the anime too... but I disagree with the hardo's roasting this live action reimagining.
Nothing will ever match up perfectly, because it's not meant too... we don't want to live in a world of reproductions... I for one prefer reimagining.. it's fresh with respect to the past.
So suck it up, grab a tissue and stop being a baby.. the alternative is that you never see it brought to life... or we wait another 20 years.
Why not give it time to grow into something you respect? I would hope you prefer that over getting it cancelled because it hurt your feelings. Life ain't that tough folks, take the wins where you can get them.
Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments (2016)
Jesus. Did the twilight person write this on downers?
Nope. Had potential until the terrible props and way overacted lines came into play.
Call to action was a sad sight to say the least. How did this show get as many episodes filmed as it did? These poor actors were trapped by horrible and poorly paced writing. Not watching anymore- hopefully someone saved them, but I certainly won't be sticking around to find out
Hot Fuzz (2007)
Proper English comedy
Just go along for the ride, and you won't be disappointed. Hilarious one liners, worth the watch and a lighthearted laugh. Ending was so incredulous that I truly could not stop laughing. Simon Pegg 👏🏼
Mortal Engines (2018)
I rarely watch anything below a 7.5... but gave this a shot
Was it perfect? No. The plot was disjointed and the background/explanation behind everything was lacking. That said, the scenery, the graphics and general aesthetic was truly well done.
Acting was a bit cheesy, but the main actress held her own. This would be better served as a TV series with the opportunity to explore the factions present and the political implications involved. 7/10 for an honest effort and a misunderstood storyline.
Soul (2020)
Good, but fell short when it counted
I won't spoil anything, but suffice it to say as a musician, music lover and jazz fan- this movie was everything I hoped for... up until about 90% of the way through.
Ending felt like a cop out, and the writing failed to neatly tie up the story, whether happy or not. Left me feeling unresolved. 7/10 but would have been easily an 8 or 9 if it had finished as strong as it started
The Dragon Prince (2018)
I wanted to give this a better rating
The story was there. The animation was wonderful. The characters fit the plot... but the writing. Dear god. I watched this with my 13 year old nephew out of curiosity and was disappointed to see such a quality story feel too juvenile for even him.
In the age of adult animation, you either go all the way with the action sequences, or you gloss over them entirely. This effort felt consistently undecided which is why I gave it a 6. Could've been much higher!
Punky Brewster (2021)
Some things were better left in the 80s.
Cheap reproduction focused more on nostalgia more than quality. Trigger finger laugh track to carry weak writing.
Final Space (2018)
Clever yet fantastical sci fi series.
Humorous, adventure packed and even a little romance. Gary can be a bit tiresome at times, but the overall style of the show is worth the 9/10.
Admittedly the latter season felt less guided and more, "adventure of the week" style for several episodes, but thankfully got back on track for a light show of an ending. Excited to see what's to come.
The Flight Attendant (2020)
Incoherent inconsistent writing.
No continuity, plot structure was weak, couldn't decide on a genre, and tried to use cuoco as the cornerstone.
Sadly without a laugh track, her star quality is severely diminished. The flight attendant only confirmed this. Victim of the writing more than anything.
