The Shift (2023)
Bad, I mean really bad.
I'm not sure who should feel more insulted or duped, sci-fi fans or Christians? This is just awful from beginning to end. The acting by Neal McDonaugh as the Benefactor is so over the top it's comical. You want to feel for Kevin with the loss of his wife, but it's just too absurd to take seriously. Sean Astin really deserves better roles than this crap too. This is the last time I go into a movie without finding out what the actual plot is. I feel ripped off even though this viewed through AMC's A-List subscription pass and I didn't have to technically pay to watch it. Never again will I be duped into watching something like this ever again.
Black and Blue (2019)
BET Movie of The Week
This movie was actually much better than I thought it would be. The acting from Alicia West was superb same with Mouse (Tyrese Gibson), and Milo (Luke Cage). It's a timeless tired classic tale of police corruption that never fails to entertain. Alicia West is a 3 week rookie on the New Orleans Police Department who unexpectedly witnesses her fellow officers execute two drug dealers and has it all recorded on her body camera. Of course her fellow officers shoot her to silence her, but she is wearing a bulletproof vest and gets away. The rest of the plot writes itself. We have all seen this scenario countless times before. Who can Alicia West trust? Where can she go? She is now the most wanted person in the entire city. You can probably figure out how this all ends.
Tyrese Gibson plays an amiable convenience store clerk who is Alicia West's childhood friend who is willing to help out anyone in need. He agrees to assist her to safety no matter the consequences.
The villain corrupt cops are your stereotypical idiots who feel they are entitled to illegal money and are righteously above the law. They have the upper hand throughout the entire time.
Overall this is a thoroughly enjoyable film which is bound to end up as the BET movie of the week in 6 months. If you loved movies like Training Day or Armored then you will also love Black and Blue.
Johnson Family Vacation (2004)
Possibly the worst family comedy I've ever seen
I usually don't write reviews for movies here on IMDb, but I feel like it's my civic duty to warn people against watching these abomination of cinema. Johnson Family Vacation wastes the talents of a semi-decent cast including Cedric The Entertainer, Vanessa Williams, Lil' Bow Wow (Shad Moss), Solange Knowles (Beyoncé's less famous sister who beat up Jay-Z in an elevator over his infidelity), Steve Harvey, and many more talented performers struggling with this terrible script and plot.
The plot is a simple road trip story of a family man trying to take his wife and kids across the country to their family reunion. It had a lot of potential for laughs much like National Lampoon's Vacation or any of the numerous knockoffs. The Johnsons run into all sorts of wacky problems along the way including the beautiful hitchhiker played by Shannon Elizabeth (American Pie), car trouble, and many other waster opportunities. It feels like the equally bad movie "Are We There Yet" copied this movie a year later. If you enjoyed that you will probably love Johnson Family Vacation. If you have any sense of humor and aren't a huge Cedric The Entertainer fan then avoid this bomb like the Ebola virus. Even The Cleaner starring Cedric The Entertainer is more enjoyable than this dud.
