D-Railed (2018)
It has a little potential.
As a monster movie this is not good. It's a fairly mediocre film all together. While it's not that great overall it isn't extremely terrible and the ending was a little interesting. I though it was a nice touch and didn't bother man. I did feel a bit sad the protagonist can never accept her fate.
The monster isn't explained in anyway and this movie turned out to be completely different than what I expected.
I wouldn't even call this a "monster movie" and rather label it a ghost story that has a monster in it that represents something, perhaps.
Like I mentioned, the ending didn't bother me too much and I thought it was a nice touch.
Itsy Bitsy (2019)
Decent Balance.
This is not a creature feature only film. It is a drama movie with a creature within that. If you're looking for a pure creature feature flick then it won't please you and in that regards you probably should just watch Eight-Legged-Freaks, which is more fun and slapstick.
If you're just looking for a drama focused story that so happens to also have a spider give it a watch. It's not a bad movie but if you dislike spiders you can add it to your hate list.
The effects were practical and not too distracting. Glad it wasn't a web of bad CGI.
I was loving this spider until it killed, Mr. Whiskers, the cat.... Oof.
Shark Bait (2022)
I think it was pretty okay
I think it was pretty okay for what it was. It wasn't out to claim to be the next best shark movie but did deliver on it's simple premise.
They were all technically idiots but tbh honest most folks do things without thinking.
We know sharks don't actually behave like this but it was nice to see mother nature take out these goofballs.
Funny how the little girl did more than the girly man she called her boyfriend.
The final girl actually was good. The next two great actors were the shark and the jetski.
The shark wanted to eat them all so bad because stupidity tastes sweet.
Prey (2022)
Beautiful Cinematography
I give this one a 6.7. I think the strongest points are the cinematography and the respect to the culture. Some of the scenes were pretty nice and the deaths were brutal at times but not over the top, just right for Predator.
The movie doesn't move at a snail pace and jumps in to some interesting bits.
I did find some of the connections to Pred 1 and 2 interesting.
This is a nice "Prequel" and by no means perfect at all but is not bad either.
Naru is great in the film for sure and I enjoyed a few bits of her scenes. It reminds me of Predators. They use techniques to outsmart the Predator.
The movie patched up it's reasons for certain scenes in the film that came into play.
The reason for the low score is because I didn't have the option to watch it in Comanche with English subtitles. The switching between English and Comanche took me out of the film.and I didn't like it most of the time.
Women weren't hunters in the Comanche but the defiance of Naru could have been a thing possible it just seems the film pushes it a bit. I liked the way she held her own though and proved a capable warrior as expected.
She observed and she learned and survived.
The Pred in this one was quite mean but it's obvious why.
It was a pretty decent movie. I think it was worth the wait for the most part but definitely didn't need to be released in theaters. Streaming was the best option.
One thing that will make the original Predator superior to all those after it..The cast had Chemistry. They had worked together and weren't just strangers thrown together. The original had a charm where it built up these characters and you got to know Dutch, Mac, Blame, Billy, etc.
I would give Prey a 7 but a 6.7 is fine in my eyes. It's not really that bad. It's good for what it gives and the time period it gives it.
Late Phases (2014)
Surprisingly Deep and Entertaining Movie
I thought this movie was well done, and it had a very sympathetic protagonist, Ambrose, who you could relate to and you just understood what was going on in his life and how these different things were being shut off from him and taking away from him and you add in a werewolf.
I really think this is a good movie. The beginning or the parts that don't involve much reminds me a bit of silver bullet, but I think the execution in this movie is much better than the movie Silver Bullet.
By the end of the movie you do root for the protagonist and his struggle against his antagonists and the ending, although bittersweet is a very rewarding outcome in the end with a powerful message.
And the crew that worked on his movie did have some death of movie professionalism and I thought it was great.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Very Flawed Film With Some Decent Scenes.
The movie pulls you in during the first 10-15 minutes on nostalgia alone and seems to be heading towards a 6.5 rating but it falls very short after that and drops low.
The movie has much better action sequences than Fallen Kingdom but it's about as dumb. What keeps it from being the dumbest of the franchise is the presence of the Trinity (Alan, Ellie, and Ian...) They really make you smile because they still have chemistry.
The plot is all over the place. The effects are not that spectacular as they should be. The musical score is not up to par.
The body count is extremely low. Granted the movie is not about blood and guts but there wasn't any real threat in this film besides it's excessive runtime.
Jurassic Park has been spiraling ever since World Arc first started and has went from an intelligent techno-thriller into a whatchamacallit mess of mediocrity.
It really all depends on what you're looking for though. If you're looking for something intelligent and enough to be iconic, this is not it.
Also this movie, has a chick in here who is just as vile as some of the guys and she gets spared...I was hoping a raptor would take her out....
Owen also brings nothing to this franchise except his claim as being someone we recognize as Starlord. He even has a dumb line, "I always come back..."
It has its occasional nods and nostalgia for crutches. That's all that is keeping it from toppling over into complete obscurity.
The way gigs died was so stupid and the Trex waking back up......🙄
The Hunting (2021)
Somewhat Passable Werewolf Flick
The film was pretty predictable. The effects were okay but also lacking and the plot wasn't as engaging or tight as it could be. I've seen far worse than this and I didn't exactly hate it. The film had the setup of people who know the basic mechanics of filmmaking.
I do like the little hints of werewolf lore in certain signs like last name of characters or names of buildings.
The characters are pretty forgettable but do have a few funny moments.
It was pretty easy to tell who the wolf was from the very beginning of the film (but the real reveal of everything was kinda was a bit of a slap in the face)..No build up or anything but whew the character who plays the officer is such a darn stud for real. Very easy on the eyes.
Most of the music is forgettable but there are a few tracks that sound very 90's.. reminiscent of Silver Bullet and Stranger Things.
I rate it as high because I know it is a B-movie of some sort but it isn't too bad but could be a whole lot better.
It was lacking more scary scenes and no true werewolf transformation. The suit itself didn't look bad at all to me.
Claw (2021)
It Gave Some Effort.
The movie started out pretty good for the most part. The intro music was so great with its classical mix into horror. I enjoyed both of the leads. They had chemistry and made some moments enjoyable.
However, the latter half just went south of the border.
The effects weren't that bad.
Kudos to killing the dog. Though I liked Mr. Bo Jangles during his time on screen, I'm glad the horror aspect was there for that moment despite people always crying about the dog dying.
This film could have been better towards the second half..like it felt disjointed. If it fixed the issues it could have easily got a 6.5 or even a solid 7.
Tar (2020)
Kinda disjointed.
I watched this because I like creature features. There was certain parts that didn't make sense to me but the movie wasn't too terrible. It doesn't take much to entertain me creature feature wise and I wasn't expecting something on par with Jurassic Park or whatever.
The cast was strange but all the women were pretty. I found the part where the assistant was eyeing up Ms. Diana funny but that was really where most of the comedy was in parts here and there in the movie.
The cast was a bit moronic though...they gave me Alien Covenant cast with equal amounts of stupidity with the things they did.
I hope they remake this with a more horror angle. The monster idea was different but it just wasn't creature feature enough for me but and it moved slow. It wasn't gory and that was fine. I'm okay with none gory films.
