L'ingorgo (1979)
Incredible waste of talent and time
Due to some other's comments, I decided to rent "L'ingorgo", hoping to see a real Italian styled "black comedy", a reflex of the early '50s Cinema d'Autore that left us many jewels, mixed with '70s socio-political satire.
Instead, I had to watch a boring, tedious and even violent piece, filled with excellent actors and actresses, that in the beginning was truly promising, but then became a long, exasperating show, with no specific purpose.
Particularly shocking is the scene of a rape, committed by 3 guys, and witnessed by others who, instead of stopping it by shooting their firearms to the air, discussed if it was worth watching it or not. Well, by the way the film turned, it's a relief the authors didn't choose to make those witnesses participate in the multiple rape.
I didn't understand what Marcello Mastroianni's character meant, or why some things happened without consequences (the rape, the sacking of a truck, some crazy drivers, discussions, etc.).
It didn't seem a "written" movie, but a spaghetti incident of talents mixed up like the traffic jam itself, and left alone with some cameras and microphones open as they moved and talked.
If that was the purpose of this film, then I didn't quite get it like that.
The Running Man (1987)
Cult Movie?
Come on, it has what it takes!
Cool ambiance, cool music, cool plot, cool actors, and, most of all, the era sensation!
And, besides, it's based on a Stephen King's book!
Well, IMDb is asking me to fill out my comments with a minimum of 10 lines, I don't see the reason why, so I'm filling the text box with these lines, hoping I could finally post it! I write this, just to clarify, it's kinda silly, but I guess they want to avoid one-lined comments that could otherwise waste space on their database.
Oh, wait, I think these "filling" lines are also a waste in their database!
Duel (1971)
Excellent, Clean and Timeless Movie
I happened to watch Duel last week on cable, and it simply mesmerized me... I remember the first time I watched it, I was 12... now, at 40, and after so many movies, my feelings about its concept, photography, storyline, and Dennis Weaver's performance, have just been matured along with my age...
Was this one of the first Spielberg's works? No wonder he is THE best director & producer of all times... confirmed the same day, when I tuned another channel to enjoy one of his last jewels: Minority Report....
Wouldn't it be cool if he remade "Duel" with a paranoid Tom Cruise in it, leaving Dennis Weaver for a cameo (the gas station employee?)? No FX, no CGI, just pure and pleasant genuine cinema!!! Then again, does it make sense to remake something already close to perfection?
Xchange (2001)
COOL, underrated movie
I saw this movie on cable tv 2 nights ago, I got caught by the original baseline (mind transfer) & the oncoming situations... however, it lacked of some "character", it felt like an 80's SF movie. I think they should work on a sequel, with a change on the lineup (actors, director, producers), keeping Stephen Baldwin, and maybe putting his brother Alec as his alter-ego... whatever, I thing this idea should be given to someone like Steven Spielberg or Luc Besson.
