Great White (2021)
Sucked
Even as a low budget Aussie film, its terrible. Why. I guess there is a market for it, and looking at the amount of reviews it must have done well
But its one of the weaker Aussie films to come out.
Nomadland (2020)
Interesting
Great work but not deserving of an academy award, they've lost touch with what people see as great films. Its become so political its no wonder less and less watch the oscars
But them aside, the film is very documentary but original, feels like a road trip, camping escape. Some lovely moments, but I find the film is confused as to what it really wants, so its experimental.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Painful
Wasn't this the director who said female film makers are the best
Seriously think she tripped and hurt her head. She certainly isn't but Patty Jenkins did an amazing job with the first.
This is so badly directed, so badly written, its just embarrassing to this the amount of money they spent making it. I've seen way smaller films that gave more for so little.
If it's on Netflix and free watch it, but don't pay for it.
Nobody (2021)
Ok
This wasn't too bad, started off interesting and then fell into a slump of same same. It go worse as it went along. Total meat head film, anyone giving this a 9/10 clearly doesn't get out or works for the studio.
Its average at best, performances are a little lost, but for a 15m budget great job.
June Again (2020)
Great Title
But the film was average at best. Making movies about such a terrible disease, well there is just nothing funny about it. The writer makes it out like it's all such a funny thing. All these comments about deeper meaning.
While it's targeted at the over 50's crowd, I'm sure it gives them something to chuckle at, but it's poorly shot, edited and needed further development.
I'm not a huge Aussie Drama fan, I think they should stick with generic comedies like Muriels Wedding, and alike.
Coming 2 America (2021)
Funny in places
My family and I watched this and enjoyed it, not as good as the original film, but still enjoyable. It was the right move to sell to a SVOD, it would have bombed in the theatre, the quality is just not there.
Wish Eddie would do another Beverly Hills cop.
Penguin Bloom (2020)
What a bore
Sorry, I'm trying to be positive here, but the characters are one dimensional, and based on a true story it's painful to watch. The husband is useless in it, has no depth, the kids are just props and the protagonist is an amazing actor who struggle to even convince me she's suffering.
Direction is weak, but some beautiful cinematography.
It lacked originality, we've seen these sort of films far to often twenty years ago.
The Marksman (2021)
Not bad
Not bad for a simple idea, the bad guys were two dimensional.
Liam is always great in films, he has hit that note in life that no matter what film he's in, he holds the film.
Ascendant (2021)
Contained Thriller
This is the best contained thriller I've ever seen and I've seen most.
I'm so proud it's an aussie film, and its a female lead, as they're usually led by men and gruesome but this film is not, it's a lovely story about family. Its clearly attracted some of the wrong audience, who've jumped onto IMDB to vent their outrage but some of them have said the same thing about the Dry.
If you like contained thrillers this one, is a must see.
