The Big Chill (1983)
One of my favorite movies of all time
I have seen this movie more times than I can count, and it never ceases to make me incredibly happy in its own strange way. The acting is superb, the emotions are captivating, and the humor rules it all.
When a dear friend of mine passed away several years ago, we had a wake of sorts at a friends house after the funeral. I made everyone watch this movie. The opening scene, which is a funeral, had a few people running, but everyone who stayed agreed that it was the perfect movie for the day, showing that friendship can ultimately withstand time, distance and even death. Plus, it felt good to have a reason to laugh and not feel guilty about it.
Sweet Home Alabama (2002)
Hard to watch
I felt that this movie was filled with unsympathetic and uninteresting characters who make consistently bad decisions. It's fun fluff, but it was hard to care about anything that happened to anyone in the movie.
Jack Reed: A Search for Justice (1994)
Decent made-for-tv crime drama
***Small Spoiler*** regarding the initial plot set-up.
This movie is your average tv-movie that sometimes tries to be more, but is generally interesting. Amber Benson (known from playing Tara on Buffy the Vampire Slayer) has a small role as the daughter of the title character. The plot, revolving around the murder of stripper Lorelei Carter, is basic, but Brian Dennehy is as good as usual as the tired cop who keeps trying even when his co-workers want to let it go.
Her Last Chance (1996)
Better than I expected
I caught this movie on tv the other day and surprised myself by watching the entire thing. Kellie Martin did an excellent job playing "the good girl" who's got everyone completely convinced that she's all right, while secretly being a drug addict. Her lies catch up with her, and then no one believes her once she starts to tell the truth. Having known many people like this in high school, I was very impressed. Also, the weight in her face was very cute and helped her look very young and innocent, as was needed. She even managed to convincingly play a drug addict! Overall, I was quite impressed - a relatively implausible storyline played very realistically.
Moulin Rouge! (2001)
one of the most creative movies that I've ever seen
Moulin Rouge is one of the most creative movies that I've seen in my life. It was funny, surprising, interesting, entertaining, sad and beautiful. I went home excited that my roommate already had the soundtrack, and listened to it that night. I would recommend this movie to anyone with an open mind - you'll be glad that you saw
