Honeydew (2020)
Waste of time
If a snobby Film School drop-out tried to make their own rip-off of Texas Chainsaw but remove all aspects of horror, thrills and intrigue and replace it with some vague message of consumption it would be this.
Started off OK with some nice photography, and interesting sound design but quickly devolves into drawn out boring monotonous nonsense with absolutely nothing to offer the viewer aside from an overacted almost comical cameo by sister-diddler Lena Dunham.
Props to the poster designer for an interesting straight-up-horror design, but don't be fooled, a more accurate poster would have been the cast sitting at a dinner table looking bored.
This was a 10 minute art-film on Vimeo extended for 2 hours.
Stowaway (2021)
Nice concept but...
...ultimately falls (extremely) flat in the end. I enjoy this type of mission-gone-awry story and I can generally suspend disbelief with dumb plot holes, but what killed this one for me was there is seemingly no climax and everything ends abruptly.
So, the original concept itself is a big question mark. How in the F does he manage to seal himself inside of a wall panel that required use of power tools from the outside to open? At first I assumed it was because he was a legit stowaway, or someone there for nefarious purposes...but the story quickly makes an effort to explain he is a sympathetic character who legit ended up there by accident. Okay, whatever.
Then lets just ignore they only have 1 of these extremely EXTREMELY vital like mission-integral pieces of equipment on board.
Ignore that a trained botanist can't grow algae with advanced technology and equipment where as a stoned college student could grow it by leaving a cup of milk out for a week.
Ignore the seemingly smart character succeeds in retrieving a vital life-saving element but then neglects to tether it to herself out in the zero-g space.
Ignoring these, isn't what happens AFTER Zoe's sacrifice just a *little* important? So...you're on a 2-year mission now without a medic on board, some untrained rando, a scientist with all of his research material destroyed, high tensions and limited oxygen.....can we see the rest of this story please????
I get you wanted to end on a melodramatic note about her sacrifice but talk about leaving things on the back burner.
That being said, I enjoyed the build up (just a shame it didn't deliver in the end) it had some nice photography and acting, but I feel this would have worked better as a series, there was so much potential story setup and no delivery, blue balls the movie.
