Live to Lead (2022)
Incredibly inspiring series
Even though each episode is approx 30 mins it still felt like very informative, intimate portrayals of the leaders. My favourite episodes were on Bryan Stevenson, Albie Sachs and Siya Kolisi who i didn't know as much about. I liked how Bryan talked about the importance of having open dialogue about race & how African Americans had been treated. That silence had prohibited progress.
Siya talking about the awful poverty he had experienced coupled with the domestic violence he witnessed was so heartbreaking. And showing the impact of apartheid laws in Albie's segment & how the spirit of ubuntu helped Albie forgive people who caused him such a painful injury was such a reminder that these issues are so fresh & live.
Incredible stories. A must watch especially if you are in need of inspiration.
Archetypes: The Duality of Diva with Mariah Carey (2022)
A discussion on divadom with the queen of divas!
I loved loved this episode so much as a huge fan of Mariah Carey. Her and Meghan had a great rapport & their discussion on hair products for their mixed race hair was soo funny.
Mariah was so much more open & relatable than I expected even when touching upon issues with her label and her first marriage. I love that she was like unapologetically secure in her divadom & it was funny when they played the clip of her kinda tackling the background singer trying to steal her shine lol.
Again the expert input is what's great about this podcast & it was interesting learning about how diva is initially represented as a positive in marginalised communities & then is used as a kind of put down when someone usually from a marginalised community obtains power.
10/10 & as Mariah said being basic is not festive. Archetypes definitely isn't basic.
Archetypes: The Misconception of Ambition with Serena Williams (2022)
Interesting discussion about ambition
Sure most women even in the year 2022 could relate to the discussion about double standards applied to women & men in relation to ambition. Even now when they say a woman is ambitious it denotes calculating, must have an agenda etc in a way that doesn't happen with men where it is seen as a positive attribute.
It also jumped out how this impacted the GOAT. Serena Williams talking about difference in how her passion is perceived and even punished compared to male players on the circuit was everything.
Really enjoyed the expert input from Dr Kray.
A good start to Archetypes & shows how relevant these discussions are.
The Me You Can't See (2021)
Very moving-must see
Very powerful, moving series on mental health and emotional well being. Heavy content and hard to watch all episodes at once but informative too with many experts involved. Really liked looking at cultural stigma around mental health.
