Weird.
11 September 2021
I mean that's all it really is. The title is in fact descriptive of the movie: Daniel Redcliffe is a corpse that is used like a swiss army knife, which is just as grotesque and weird as it sounds. And despite its stupidity, I couldn't help to grin at it.

While the movie did prove that making a Joan Cornellà comic into a feature length film is in fact possible, it did however (expectedly) fail to tell an actually compelling story. And for me, despite for a few shameful laughs, it didn't feel like there was an actual point to it.

If you are into weird stuff, then this movie is made for you. If the idea of Daniel Redcliffe's corpse being used as a motorboat doesn't impress you however, you might just be good passing it.

Wrath of Man (2021)

No depth, good action.

This is exactly what you'd expect from a Jason Statham movie. The action is pretty good, the humor is much better than your average blockbuster and the one liners slap.

It's not a movie that will stay in your head or change your perspective, it's just what it is, and it's pretty good at that.

Basically my wet dream

This is the perfect sequel to the main series. The animation is great and many elements that fell short in the main series were addressed.

If your an Eva fan you can't (not) watch this.

A fantastic view into the horrible nature of war.
17 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This film doesn't really present any antagonists and it is most certainly not about heroism. It doesn't show war as a dark dystopia either. The sun still shines, there are still people taking a bath in the ocean, eating together and having fun together. What this movie truly wants to show is that the civilians, the children's that die in a war, were real people with real story's, forgotten and buried next to piles of nameless corpses. The opening scene already introduces us to this truth. To Seita the can of fruit drops, that remains one of the core elements throughout the movie, is incredibly valuable. In the first/final scene of the movie it contains the ashes of his beloved sister. We know he put the ashes of her into it because he know how much his sister loved fruit drops. And nonetheless it is simply taken away after his death, and thrown into a field to be forgotten.

Nonetheless the movie has some problems. Many questions remain open, which left me more confused about the overall message of the film. Why didn't Seita return to his aunt? Why did he refuse to work? Why was he in such denial of his situation?

Those are all questions that you will ask yourself, but there are simply no answers given. And I do see this as an issue of the movie. For me it felt hard to tell whether there was a reason for Seita's decisions, that I wasn't educated enough to understand, or whether it was just his pride that kept him from returning to his aunt or working for his food.

However in the end, all of this didn't really change the message of the movie. Maybe Seita and Setsuko could have survived if they returned to their aunt, even if she would have treated them badly. Maybe they could have lived if Setsuko searched for a job to pay for their food. But do we really want to live in a world where children have to accept a broken system to survive? Or should we focus on giving them a world that is forgiving for their mistakes?

A must watch for all eva fans
14 August 2021
This is probably not the best place to start the eva franchise with, but for a loving fan of the original series its just incredibly fun to see the already beautifully animated fights of the original series with the polished quality it deserves. The animation is really great, especially for a 2007 movie, and really catches one's eye. The great designs of the original series really come to live here. Other than that, the first rebuild doesn't really add a lot to the plot of the main series.

This is just a nice snack for any Evangelion fan, and as such lit up my heart. I'd recommend this series to anyone who liked the original Eva anime and is hungry for more.

Watchmen (2009)

The best 'hero' movie until now.
5 August 2021
! This is a review for the ultimate cut of the movie and not the cinema version !

Zack Snyder's movies have by now become synonymous with a unique aesthetic, loved by some and hated by others, and this movie is certainly no exception. It is however hard to deny that Snyder accomplished to fulfill his creative vision here, maybe more than on any other movie he has made, giving it an experience, that one can hardly compare with anything else.

The intro sequence alone is absolutely outstanding, and in my opinion on of the best ever made. In it, 45 years of American history are retold using animated historical pictures, that have been changed in a way that encapsulates how the Watchmen/Minutemen took part in creating the alternate world that the Comic-Universe is set in. If you for some reason decide not to watch this movie, I highly recommend watching the intro scene nonetheless. It can easily be found on YouTube.

The universe of Watchmen is dark and mature, in a way that I didn't even think the Batman movies by Christopher Nolan have been. A major part of the movie doesn't even bother to follow a straight line, and instead uses its time for worldbuilding, to show the background of many characters and their respective moral. And it really isn't very hard to tell why this is done; because Watchmen really is about worldbuilding and philosophy.

And like any good movie about philosophy it doesn't bother to give answers, but instead takes its time to explain problems and views, as well as the world that they are set in.

All this is only supported by the animated movie, in the movie, Tales of the Black Freighter. It tells a story that at first glance doesn't seem to have any relation to the rest of the movie, but does in fact weave together with the themes of the main movie in the end. And after all this contrast doesn't take the wind out of the main plot line either, since the film doesn't build a lot on the main plot anyway.

Furthermore, it's hardly possible to even say who the protagonist of the movie was, and it gets even harder to nail the philosophy of the movie down to one certain question.

To experience this groundbreaking approach to movies in general, as well as a truly outstanding science-fiction world, I highly recommend watching this movie.

Fun and Refreshing
1 August 2021
Interspecies reviewers is a parody on the hentai genre, and for what it is, I absolutely love it. The idea for the anime is already so absurd that I almost thought it was impossible to keep it entertaining for anything more than a mini-series, but somehow the author accomplished to keep the series entertaining and varied, even though the core concept of the episodes always remains the same, because the pure degenerate creativeness leaves you surprised every time.

For anyone that hasn't watched the series yet: The main cast, consisting of a variety of fantasy species, gets interested in finding out how the sexual experience with different races is like, and how the opinion of the different members of the cast differs from one another (as they all are members of different races, and focus on different things when it comes to their sexual partner). So they decide to go on a journey together, to review as many species as they can.

The main fun of the series comes from the creative mind that went into creating these weird races, and always leaves you guessing how the sexual experience with them is described, and how each member of the crew will react to it. The show is all in all a smart play on kinks and sexuality, in the most entertaining way possible.

I also love that the anime never gets too dark. It manages to keep its distance from sexual violence, and never even deals with topics that generally feel to be too deep to fit in a satire. This whole series is just stupid and funny in every way, and I honestly think that anyone with a dumb kind of humor can and will have a lot of fun with this.

I love this.

So many characters have such an amazing development in this episode, Roswaal and Beatrice are given a whole new level of depth, many new interesting questions about Satella arise and we are getting one of the most intimidating endings of the series.

So much is thrown into this episode, and i simply love all of it. The score does a great job at undermining this unusually gruesome episode and supports the breaking sanity of Subaru .

We also see that Subaru has now become an entirely different person, his impulsiveness is slowly fainting, as he arises as a great strong character from a tower of his own corpses.

Last but no least, this episode really shows that Subaru's invincibility doesn't make the events that happened in the timelines where he died useless as you might expect from an anime like this. Instead of forming the world around Subaru this anime is progressing by forming and developing Subaru himself, and the challenge that he has to face is not to survive, but to hold on to his own sanity while he tries to save himself and everyone else. This idea was simply amazing and is transmitted into the anime in an awesome way. I still don't understand how one can make a series that literally deletes negative consequences out of actions and even makes character deaths inconclusive still so intriguing and amazing.

10/10.
