I think it was the most boring series we have seen in Netflix. In my opinion it should end in the third episode. The plot was bizarre, the characters even the protagonist, were vague, their reactions ambivalent. As for the plot, we were supposed to understand what is happening at least in the last two episodes. We didn't get a clue. Pointless chats, the same atmosphere throughout the series, no evolution, no meaning. Just a pointless allegory of evil consuming the characters.

This film depicts a really bad era in the history of the United States and through this the typical story of an artist, a film director and script writer who was persecuted by the so called House of Un-American Activities Committee, like a lot of other artists and intellectuals, some of them just for their beliefs or for just having attended a meeting or some meetings of the previously legal communist party in the States, when they were young. The people whom the Committee with the consent of the government was after lost their jobs, were prohibited to find employment or at worst were jailed in a country considered to respect the freedom of speech above all by law. The directing of the film is great, the performances of the actors are excellent and the film itself is worth seeing indeed.

Well, I am a fan of Mr. Costa-Gavras and I have seen the majority of his movies but I had expected something more than that film. Although Mr. Gavras insisted that his film was fiction no matter whether it was based on Varoufakis' book I expected that it would depict the intensity of those days and although the film can be seen with real interest by the spectators it lacks intensity, passion. In comparison with his previous movies I would describe it as flat.

Well, although I had missed about ten minutes of the film I found it really interesting, with very good performances, especially on the part of Laurence Fishburne. However there is something hanging concerning the plot. Something has bothered me. Martin is presented in the film as an idealist, a dreamer who is trying to help the people in underdeveloped countries. However he seems to be involved in a scheme according to which innocent people will be killed. It is taken for granted that the CIA as well as the terrorists are accustomed to such tactics but they are not the tactics of an idealist. An idealist might sacrifice themselves but not innocent people. Yet it is worth seeing it.

I have just seen this film on TV with my husband. We liked it very much. It depicts the rise of fascism in Italy and ultimately the rise of intolerance in any country especially in historical periods of crisis. I find this film frighteningly up to date. The scene where the girl kills the young man on the stage instead of the person who is to be blamed and the audience applauding joyfully for the murder of an innocent person without even knowing what they are applauding for is very powerful. The actors and actresses are superb in their roles as well as the direction of the film. I also liked the way the scenes drop from the one to the other without finishing what they were meant to show but just giving us hints about it and making us think which, I believe, is the target of a good film maker. It is really worth seeing it!
