Wish (2023)
I am 61,i don't work for Disney and i liked the movie
Listening to all the bad reviews on Youtube i really thought this was going to be awful and boring. Critics really dragged this movie through the mud like it was an atrocity in every way but it really wasn't that bad. I guess people love to be part of a group like the ones who got on the bandwagon of love for Barbie(a so so movie that didn't deserve it's success in my opinion)and now they are getting on the bandwagon of hate for Wish which is much better than Strange world, Elemental and Lightyear. I would say that in terms of product it's closer to Encanto. Asha is beautiful to look at. I loved some of the songs
and the style of the artwork. I even got emotional at the end of the film which i didn't suspect could happen. While it certainly doesn't deserve to be a billion dollar grossing film(not many animated films
deserve it anyway)it certainly doesn't deserve to be rejected by the public and the critics in the way it is now and shouldn't have been such a big flop. If you liked the trailer, give it a chance and forget everything negative that you heard about the film. You just might enjoy it.
An American Dream (1966)
A movie about a man that you don't care about
Stuart Whitman fights with his drunken wife(Eleanor Parker who is totally awful in this picture) in a high rise and makes her fall from the building. At first it is not clear if it was an accident as Stuart runs down the stairs to see his wife who not only fell down the building but who was also ran over by a car who has a criminal as a passenger and Janet Leigh, a lady who knew Stuart in the past.but later on we learn that he has no remorse about the death of his wife. The cops then question Stuart who claims he is innocent but the cops don't believe his story. Stuart and Janet go out together and then at the end Stuart is killed by many bullets. Basicly there are two things that are interesting here. The cops trying to get the truth out of Stuart and explaining why they don't believe him and a few minutes with Susan Dunberg the maid just because she's sexy. I never liked Janet Leigh(with short hair she even looks more awful)so every scene with her was boring. Stuart plays somebody that is very unlikable so when he dies we really don't care at all. We're just glad that the film is over at last.
The Girl Hunters (1963)
If a detective would do what Hammer did here ,he would land in jail & would deserve it.
So the movie starts with Hammer being drunk apparently because his secretary is missing and he is taken somewhere where one cop beats him. Why should i have sympathy for a drunk? Why should i have sympathy for a cop who beats a drunk? Then he is asked to get information from a dying man in a hospital bed. The man talks a low voice that is totally annoying. Boring. There is a scene where Hammer has a conversation with a man in the bar. He puts a bullet out and asks a man to eat it. The man then puts it in his mouth and goes away. Why? I have no idea. Shirley Eaton is the eye candy that makes alot of this movie bearable. Not exactly my favoret kind of woman but a woman in a bikini always gets my attention. Hammer fights with a guy and when the bad guy is knocked down unconscious he takes an axe and seems to think it would be a good idea to use it on the bad guy. Why? I have no idea. Then he decides to knock a nail through the guy's hand. Why? I have no idea but at this point there isn't just one bad guy in the room there is a second bad guy and his name is Hammer because no one sane would ever do this. Want another proof that Hammer should be judged and putted in jail? Well at the end he puts sand in Shirley's shootgun thinking she could use it on him what exactly happens but instead of making Hammer dead it blows her head off and Hammer totally knew what was going to happen so in reality he caused her death. As entertainment once you cut out the fat it might be worth a 4 but morally it can't be awarded more than a one.
The Letter (1940)
Not enough court room scenes and an unsatisfying ending
The movie starts with a long 2 minutes shot which took a day to shoot and which some critics say is impressive. It's not. Then we see Bette Davis' character shoot a man and we quickly realize that this is not self defence. Then Davis explains in a very boring and dull dialogue what happened to three men. One of these men soon becomes her lawyer and discovers that Davis is really guilty but agrees to defend her anyway. He is made aware that a woman has a letter that Davis wrote
that could make her lose the trial and she offers to give the letter back for a price. Davis had an affair with the man she killed and her husband learns about it. Davis's lawyer is struggling with his conscience when he says his final phrases to the jury which finds Davis innocent. The movie ends on a very depressing, dark and unsatifying ending when Davis is killed by the woman who sold her the letter. There is hardly any scenes going on in the court. It would have been a better film if we would have seen the arguements between the two lawyers but apparently the writer was too lazy to go fully go there. The most interesting parts of the film are mostly about Davis's lawyer and when the truth is revealed to her husband about the affair. It has some great ideas but alot of parts that don't really work. Of course,i have never been a great fan of Davis so that surely can also affect my impression of the film.
3:10 to Yuma (1957)
I didn't see the remake yet but i hope they fixed what was wrong with this movie
There are really two main problems with it. The first is the casting. Van Heflin plays the good guy and Glenn Ford plays the bad guy. I don't really know Vin Heflin But there is no way he was ever a bigger star than Glenn. He is holding Glenn Ford as a prisoner in a hotel room. Glenn Ford keeps telling him to set him free repeatly in one of the most annoying conversation i have ever heard. Vin wants to get Ford in a train and Ford's men have the intention of freeing Ford. Vin is ready to risk his life to complete his mission. The problem is that we don't really understand his motivation and we don't really care if he lives or if he dies. If Ford had had the good guy role we would have cared. Now here is the second problem. There is all this talk from Ford about his men's intention of freeing him and in the end Ford kind of does a sabotage of the operation himself stopping his men from freeing him. This is kind of like having a movie about people climbing mount everest and then they are 8 feet from reaching the top and decide that it's not really important so they simply go back down the mountain. I just hate these movies where alot of effort is putted to reach a goal and then there is no effort willingly to reach the goal at the end.
Kiss the Blood Off My Hands (1948)
One the most unsatisfying ending i have ever seen
I am a big fan of old black and white movies and the film noir genre. I also like movie stars so of course i was interested in seeing this movie about a guy who came back from war and is trying to control his own craziness .But the problem is that he is not the only one going crazy in this movie. Joan Fontaine keeps doing alot of decisions that a normal person would be unlikely to do. The more the movie goes on the more Fontaine gets illogical and over emotionally crazy. Even though Lancaster is violent we are trying to find a redeeming quality about him which basicly only comes a little bit when in a blackmail situation he saves Fontaine from a possible danger. In the end because of Fontaine's over reaction it is easy to lose sympathy for her. This is the kind of ending when a character puts alot of efforts in a plan and then decides to abandon his plan for a wishful thinking plan. Still i wouldn't say to avoid watching the movie. It's not too boring but it is strongly unsatisfying in so many ways.
The Orville (2017)
The new horizons is better special effects and alot of swearing
I never understood why hollywood is so eager to swear in every product they create unless it is family animation. Do they really think nobody is going to subscribe to their services if they create shows where nobody swears? Do people really complain that there isn't enough swearing in tv shows and in movies? So here comes the third season of The Orville which is out of fox tv and on Hulu where they can swear as much as they want. So at first they started with one swear word by episode and now it's about 5 swear words by episode. Apparently the writers don't have time to go to church so they have to remind us of Jesus Christ and God(damn)in their scripts. Seth, if you need to say Jesus Christ for nothing, just go back to church,ok? Perhaps starting the show reading the Bible for 15 minutes would do you alot of good. I applaud everybody who is offended by this and has stopped listening to the series. I know it won't really change the direction of the scripts but stopping to watch this is the right thing to do.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
This feels like a 6 hours Disney plus series edited into 2 hours
The special effects feel like made for tv series special effects. Most of the jokes totally fall flat. Everything is undeveloped and has little substance. Gorr is not a great villain and his motivations are unclear. We never feel suspense or a real sense of danger. Still entertaining and not too boring but i am sure this will be on somebody's list of Marvel's worst movies ever.
The Protégé (2021)
The main problem is with Maggie Q's character
Early on she murders somebody in a violent way(the movie is filled with unjustifed blood splatter)and she just comes across like an unsympatic assassin. At the end there is a flashback revealing that her famiy was killed but it still does not create any emotion. I was usually annoyed that she could get out so easily of dangerous situations against many armed men. Micheal Keaton is pretty good in this, trying to inject some laughs but his relation with Maggie Q is really confusing. They try to kill each other then get in bed for sex. Later on, Keaton tries again to kill her. The action is pretty average but the jump with the firehose, then Maggie getting hit by a car and Keaton crashing through a glass table are the few seconds that stand out. I must also say that i kind of hated the ending when an armed Keaton confronts an armed maggie Q. I kind of liked the dialogue between Jackson and the bad guy at the end but not much else of what he did in this film.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
I enjoyed reading everyone's review who gave this movie a one.It deserves it.
Gunn is a talented director and writer and to really understand where the big money went, you have to watch the movie till the end but i am highly offended
by the movie's gory violence and profanity so i am giving it a one rating also.
Fatale (2020)
There is an interesting story in here but the execution is pretty bad
As others have said it is a little bit of a mix of Strangers on a train,Unlawful entry & erotic thrillers of the 90s except that the nudity isn't there. The casting is pretty bad except for Swank but her role could have been given to a hundred other actresses. I must say that i fast forwarded alot of the film because there is alot of boring scenes in here. Alot of the characters have a very flawed morality and at certain points you really don't care if they live or they die. Too much swearing, too much blood and not enough nudity. Kind of a mess but certainly not the worst movie of 2020.
