Sole Survivor (2000 TV Movie)

Don't plan on visiting the refer or bathroom
10 June 2005
I accidentally found this movie on cable while surfing. It grabbed my attention immediately. A writer's wife and daughter are killed in a tragic airplane crash. The movie grinds us through a never-ending sequence of plot twists, uncertainly, and violence. The writer senses a conspiracy, and the bad guys want to make sure he doesn't get to the bottom of the truth. John McGinley is great as the sadistic head bad guy. I was never sure where the bad guys were from. Beautiful scenery from Canada.

I was not satisfied with the ending, which left a few questions, but maybe there will be a sequel.

The Edge (1997)
Two men try to outthink each other in wilderness and fight killer bear
22 June 2003
Warning: Spoilers
Possible spoilers -

The best line in this movie was: Bob (Baldwin) says to Charles (Hopkins) in referring to the huge bear who is stalking them, "What are we going to do, Charles?" Charles calmly replies, "We're going to kill him."

The interplay between the billionaire and the photographer who is playing with his young wife is very interesting. You keep wondering when and if Bob will make a move. The two are trying to find their way out of the wilderness after a plane crash. Hopkins is a rich guy who knows everything and and finally saves the day, even though he was threatened with death. The bear fight was excellent. Bart the bear should have received an award. A high point was at the end when Charles hands Bob's watch to his wife. Watch the movie and you will know why she knew that Charles knew.

Very intense, scary movie with beautiful landscapes

I really enjoyed this film, maybe because I have visited Africa. This film is not for anyone under 16. Kilmer heads for Africa to build a railroad bridge. The area is guarded by two super male lions who lunch on the laborers and kill some for the sake of killing. There are numerous closeups of how lions kill and eat the men. A white hunter, Douglas, arrives with a small army of Masaii to dispatch the lions. Soon the Masaii wisely run off, not wanting to be the next meal for the lions.

Kilmer and Douglas have to fight the lions alone and this is very exciting. I saw the DVD, which is very good.

Homicide (1991)
Intense film well done by Mantegna.
29 January 2003
I really like Joe Mantegna but the first half of this film the actors used the F word in almost every sentence. There was also lots of unnecessary smoking. Mantegna was a good cop who somehow forgot his oath in an attempt to prove that he is a faithful Jew by committing a violent act. The film held my interest throughout, but fizzled at the ending.

Tripfall (2000)
Good start, unbelievably stupid ending
21 July 2002
Two very bad guys and a gal hold a family for $1.2 million to be withdrawn from a bank. Father (Ritter) has several chances to contact cops, doesn't, decides to be a hero by himself. He makes several decisions about saving his family that no reasonable person would make. The others watching with me were moaning and saying, "How can he be so stupid?"
