The Menu (2022)
Weird for the sake of being weird
I don't know what I just watched. It was just bad. The movie was about shock factor only and has no substance or actual story line. It had an Agatha Christie feel to it, but unlike her mysteries this was just ridiculous.
The characters aren't likable, and the plot is, well, non existent. It keeps you guessing, but at the end I just wondered "what was the point?" As I expected, I got to the end and wished I hadn't wasted my time. If you like a movie about nothing really then this movie is for you. Otherwise I would suggest you not waste your time on it.
Hollywood just doesn't make good movies anymore. I don't understand why. There's tons of great stories and books out there. Why make this crap?
Elvis (2022)
It's was okay
I didn't realize the entire movie was centered around his manager and from his perspective. The cinematography was strange. A lot of bouncing around and skipping to various scenes. I liked seeing the real footage of Elvis at the end. Wish the movie was more about his life than his relationship with his manager.
The Alpinist (2021)
Emotional
Only after my mom highly recommended it did I decide to watch "The Alpinist." Within a few minutes I was hooked. I grew to really like the main character and was in awe of his desire to climb these crazy mountains and intrigued by his off the grid minimalistic lifestyle.
Marc-Andre Leclerc was simply an amazing human being. I highly recommend watching to anyone. I can't see how anyone would not like the documentary.
I cried at the end but I remember thinking "it was just a matter of time." He had an insatiable appetite to push the limits. You can't continue to climb walls of mountains covered in ice free handed and expect to live. His character was so likable that you wish he would have stopped. But he was never going to stop.
Pieces of a Woman (2020)
Mercy & Grace
The movie in and of itself is okay, but I loved that it depicted mercy and grace. You just don't hardly ever see or hear about that anymore. God gives it but humans rarely do. The world needs more if it.
Minari (2020)
BORING
I kept thinking "give it 30 more minutes, maybe something will happen and it will get better." Nope. I picked it out at the Redbox for movie night based on the reviews and my family told me I lost movie picking privileges after renting this dud. The grandma is the best character but she's not enough to make it entertaining.
