Ram Setu (2022)

Such a huge potential wasted.

A great opportunity to educate people about what happened during the Setu Samudram case and also about Ram Setu.

There were great arguments given in the court which could be used in the movie.

The movie should have been kept closet to the truth for the greater good. You have a lot of stories for fiction, why find a great topic and destroy it with mediocre effort.

It could have flood the cinemas had it been made with required depth and hard work. This was a great project and it requires an amount of hard work and dedication to do justice to it.

5 stars to the ending and the Hare Ram Ram song.

Same Old Propaganda
28 August 2022
This will refresh your memory of what bollywood has done with you so far. How it has played with narrative war against the society to break it and create divide between different sections of people.

Same old narrative setting. This episode will show a Sanatan guru who is involved or is mastermind in a huge corruption case. And the person who helped unearthing this is Parvez Alam.

Do you remember seeing this elsewhere?

However much you try to ignore it and want to enjoy the series for what it should be, these symbolism and narrative setting will come in the way and it will spoil all the fun.

I am trying to.

Well rounded
27 May 2022
Probably watched it the second time after last many years today and it does not disappoint. Set up in a simple background of a Dad-Daughter story, it feels as real as it can get. The story teller has showed what he want to show without stretching or without any unwanted drama.

Thanks for making this movie
2 April 2022
This is just not a movie but a two hours of inspiration and motivation. Such a beautiful story of such difficult circumstances faced by a man who never gave up. These stories need to be told and talked about.

This also tells how orthodox and uncaring our system is, not just in cricket but in many fields. And how important are people like Rahul Dravid who can see what others ignore or laugh at.

Thanks again more power to the makers of such a inspiring a important movie. Must watch.

Definitive Blow to Aryan Dravidian Theory
14 August 2021
Irony is that we need evidences to believe in ourselves & in our glorious history and the pity is that we look towards the west to find those evidences.

Many of us don't know how the history is fabricated to negatively depict Bharat culturally and historically by many historians, not sure what they got in return from that?

Aryan Dravidian theory is harmful to India in many ways, not only because it portrays wrong image of history in front of the world but also because it tries to divide India.

This short, one episode documentary about the excavations in Sinauli has potential to answers many questions and debunk many theories.

More power to the makers!

All's bad that ends bad
14 July 2021
Yeah, we know that the makers are forethinking the second season but that does not mean that you will not bring closure to the ongoing story.

The acting and characters are all good with a nice build-up in the first few episodes but as a viewer, you cannot take away much from this series.

The makers should understand that there is a sizable number of audiences that want to watch quality and not just anything in the name of entertainment. Not saying that this had no quality, but the ending suggests that you are being more greedy than trying to give back the worth of the audience watch time.

Hope this would be a learning!

Felt like there is nothing in there for the Entrepreneur
13 July 2021
After around the first half of the episode, it felt like this show is just about few businessmen sitting there to make more money without much importance give to the idea or the entrepreneur itself. The main focus is on the business and how they can extract great equity out of it (though nothing bad in it if that's what the intention of the show is).

But from the second episode itself, it starts to grow onto yourself which I am going to write about later.

Is it getting predictable?
7 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I would be glad if I am wrong but the way the episode ends gets me thinking whether the show is getting predictable? The last few minutes of the episode, when Sunil Grover's character puts himself in another big problem.

It also makes me think that how can an otherwise smart and intelligent person does this mistake when police has questioned him multiple times already. Yea, I know that he is different and so is his thinking.

Good and interesting watch so far.

Very good episode narrated in a very confusing way!
25 December 2019
Very confusing. This starts with a fast forward and then goes in flashback without any indication. The story so far was going on in a sequence and I don't understand what was the need to break the flow.

But if I ignore this major flaw, the episode otherwise is very happening and perhaps a very important one which I will come to know in a while.

Ep 3, 4 and 5 Review - The Narrative Starts to Appear
21 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Ep 3,4 and 5.

When I started watching this series, I did not want it to bash anti-nationals or support so called right wing etc and the two episodes were just fine. But from the third episode, which is itself named Anti-National, a narrative started to present itself. This is the problem - the narrative. Why can't be a web series or movie based on facts and known truths and not on narratives? The reason maybe because truth is not that simple to see, understand and most of all, accept.

Let me give you an example of what I am talking about. In one of the episodes 3, 4, 5 (maybe 3rd), it shows gau rakshaks lynching two people who were transporting mutton by mistaking it as beef. I thought showing this is okay, let's not judge this series based on this. This might have happened in few cases. Therefore, so far so good. But now, in coming episodes, it shows the videos of hate speeches given by gau rakshaks and right wingers. And it shows that the potential terrorists are getting 'hurt' and motivated by that. But the plot never touches upon the hate speeches or propaganda by Islamic fundamentalists? Why? Maybe they will do it in coming episodes, I am still not judging the creators.

Then comes the third and decisive incident which made me raise this point on otherwise fantastic web series. The protagonist, Srikant Tiwari is transferred to Srinagar, Kashmir to track a terrorist of sleeper cell who has also moved there at the same time. They in-fact are seen together at the pick-up point waiting for their respective pickups.

When they start the journey from Airport, they (terrorist and Srikant, in different scenes) see the surroundings and ask the same question to people in car - 'how is Kashmir'. Those with terrorist tells him that agencies have made a mess of it, they call it crown of India but does not care about Kashmir or Kashmiri. This was acceptable. What else would a terrorist say. But when Srikanth asks the same question, the security person proudly says that everything is in our control (like they have hijacked Kashmir) and Srikant adds to it that he has heard the number of tourists have increased in Kashmir but what he can see around is only tourists in the uniform.

Now tell me one thing dear creators and writers, if you can show the narrative of terrorists, why can't you properly state the narrative of security forces and Govt. The activities which they claim to be done to end extremism. And about the situations and hate they face each passing minute? The stone pelting and ISIS flag. Is that not a narrative worth showing?

This is not done. For me, this brings down the credibility of the work you have done. But I am still hoping the next episodes do prove me wrong.

They say this is based on real news stories, I am just wondering if the news stories they have picked up are only from NDTV? On to episode 6.

Fresh breath of air
20 September 2019
This was a series for which I was waiting since it's trailer came out on social media. Manoj Bajpai is one of the finest actors we have and I don't know why he was missing from the scene since quite sometime. But I can comfortably say that he is back with the bang.

A very important characteristic of a good series or movie is that most of the characters of it should be strong and it should have stories into the main story. Same is true with this series. Even the character of kids is very good and they leave impression from very first episode.

The topic is more relevant, more interesting and more meaningful than the other popular web series that we have seen in the past on these platforms.

I can't wait to continue watching it but really want to share my thought after each episode!!

Engaging! A very good attempt.
12 January 2019
In the context of this movie, it won't be an exaggeration to say that history has repeated itself. First, it happened in 2014 when the book, The Accidental Prime Minister by Sanjaya Baru was released. Baru was the media advisor to Dr. Manmohan Singh and also was someone very close to him. The decision to write a book to let the Nation know certain truth about the PMO and Dr. Singh from 2004 to 2008 wouldn't have been an easy one. It has brought a huge backlash various groups and more importantly has cost Baru the relation he had with Dr. Singh1. Now, with the release of this movie, the history is repeating itself. This nation has seen many movies with politics in it but how many movies we have seen which talks about a real political situation of the Nation; which has characters that actually name and depicts real people? It is heartening to see that the makers of this film had guts enough for this. Surely, this movie has ticked many firsts in Indian cinema boxes.

Many 'eminent' reviewers are calling this a politically motivated and propaganda driven movie but they fail to understand that it is a depiction of a book written by someone who held a very important position in PMO and is not created out of nowhere.

Taking about the movie itself, it shows the events that occurred in the country and especially in the PMO during the first term of Dr. Manmohan Singh which is also called UPA-1. Narrated by Sanjaya Baru, the Media Advisor played by Akshaye Khanna, it takes you through the events that might feel abstract at times and lack continuity of a drama movie but at the same time, they are very engaging and takes the viewer very close to the real decision making place of the country. To be fair to the movie, there are many ways this story could have been told the makers have chosen this one.

Overall, this movie is a very nice attempt towards showing a part of Indian Political History to the Nation and it should set a trend for more such movies. There is nothing controversial in this and what is shown is already known by the public. But what's different is the portrayal of Dr. Manmohan Singh and good, weak in some sense, strong in some other, but an incorruptible man. This should make people feel good about Dr. Singh as a person. Mr. Anupam Kher, who played Dr. Singh has rightly said in all the interviews that if Dr. Singh's family choose to watch this movie, they will feel happy about it.

One of the finest Indian series!
29 July 2018
This is no doubt one of the finest Indian series and it is a first in many ways. First mega starrer web series. First major Netflix original Indian series which was widely watched. First Indian series to see this kind of adult content.

It feels like made on the lines of the likes of Games of Thrones in many ways, be it the intro, the intro music, the sexual content etc. But it is no way highly inspired by anything. It stays Indian to the core which is the greatest accomplishment.

I just wish this becomes a highly popular series and am eagerly waiting for the next season.

Will Exceed your Expectations for sure!
18 November 2017
It's from the league of movies of Ayushmann such as Dumb Laga ke Haisha and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan ( which is next on my watch-list ) and all are unbeatable.

The beauty of these movies is that all the characters are alive. It's not a one man show, which is very necessary quality of a good movie. Another quality is that you can go and watch it with highest of the expectations and it will not disappoint you!

Nothing is different with Bareilly Ki Barfi except that it is not like any other movie. I personally don't watch love movies any more at this juncture of my age but I didn't mind watching this one because it is a lot more than a boring love story. It has a soul.

Don't miss it and a request to the makers and lovers of such movies: Loves give these movies a lot of love so that the makers can keep making them without worrying about collections.

Jai Hind!

Black Water (2007)

At 6/10, this movie is highly overrated!
25 June 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Saw this movie after looking at the positive reviewers' comments on the negative reviews as sometimes good movies are underrated.

But this is a real piece of crap! What you call it in the description, 'a tale of survival', LMAO! 3 out of 4 people are dead and the one who survived was taken into the jaws of the Croc sideways couple of times! How can you call it a take of survival? This was just a piece of crap ever written!

When there is nowhere to go, and the croc is waiting in the waters to kill everybody, what can happen next? This can happen: you go in the water, the croc will catch you sideways, take you to the side of the river and put you with another guy whom he killed first and who has a gun in his belt so that you can use that gun and kill it!

Such a negative, illogical, stupid movie! At 6.0, this is way too overrated and should come down to 3 at least!

Bad direction, not so good acting by Sunny paji takes away everything from the movie.
6 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I am a big fan of Sunny Deol and like his characters in many movies like Damini, Ghayal, Ghatak, Border, Gadar etc. and therefore had quite a lot expectations with this movie. But it only DISAPPOINTS.

To start with, the concept was good which begins the story with slight flashback of the old movie and then comes to the decades later present time. There was a lot of scope to make it a wonderful story. But that didn't happen.

I have to admit, this was not one of the best acting performances by Sunny Deol himself and that might be because he was directing. Even the direction was below par. The emotional scenes were bringing laughter from the audience in the hall. The movie was boring at times.

Few fast moving sequences were tried in a different way and that looked good.

But one of the biggest disappointment was the animation. Firstly, I am not sure what is wrong with the Indian film makers who wants to earn Crores of Rupees but do not want to spend it in the budget of the movie. The helicopter sequence was an important one in the climax of the movie but was done in a very bad way, all animated. They can't even afford a real helicopter.

I have heard that the release date of the movie was postponed by few weeks because Sunny paji was not happy with the special effects. If these are the improved special effects, I don't even want to think about the older ones! All in all, it is a good concept, done very badly. No takeaways from the movie at all. Even the dialogs did not leave a mark; were there any at the first place? A request to the film-makers; please don't make movies only for money, make a good movie and money will flow automatically.

Jai Hind!

You end up wanting more!
9 January 2016
I had huge expectations with this movie after watching the Teasers and the Trailer which were wonderful. I thought Indian Cinema is finally coming out of their Love for Love Stories and creating something different!

The movie starts off well, and till the first half, I was not having much complaints. But as the second half progressed, my frustration level increased with it. Firstly, it is felt that too much is shown in too less time. The climax started too early, much before the plot of the movie could build that up in the viewer's mind. Also, the events that were shown did not have any logical or intellectual backing.

It could have worked it 80s but not in present times! Sorry!

That little romantic touch!
2 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I totally liked this penultimate episode! When this series started, I never thought that it would get this romantic twist, and when it actually did, it felt really good.

It's also wonderful how this episode totally lives up to it's title, Mornings! The whole story is told in the mornings but you never feel you have missing anything! And that scene in which Dev narrates the story, it's amazing how the entire sequence of things is knitted together and that also reminds us that this story was building up from the very first episode and nothing was just abstract like it seem in the beginning episodes, perhaps! Overall, a good one and looking forward for the Finale now!!

Quantico: Run (2015)
Season 1, Episode 1

Decent Pilot - Let's see what it builds up to
3 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
** Might contain spoilers, not necessarily.

Looking at the first episode, what can be said is that the show Quantico cannot be rejected at the first sight. That means two things, first, the show is above average and second, it does not have a WOW factor.

Those who like these kind of plots will not be disappointed but if you are coming from a background of the 9 seasons of 24, you will definitely keep wanting more out of this one.

The plot could have been better, it felt like too many things were happening in quite less time and when that happens, there is a loss of substance. The beginning episodes must build up the series even if they are a bit less pacy, but at the same time there has to be something which can give you satisfaction of watching a 40 odd minutes episode. Neither happens here perfectly.

The acting of the lead actress and the other characters is good. Let's see how does the series go in the next episodes.

So far so good... but Ed should have been spared by the writers
21 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
There are no questions on the brilliance of the series which is Game of the Thrones. This was in my watchlist since long and when I finally started watching it the last weekend, I found it doing justice to it's rank of being in the Top 5 TV Series.

I want to talk about Ed Stark in this review of Episode 9 of Season 1.

In the first season, I develop an attachment to the character of Ed Stark because of many things that were portrayed about him and definitely wanted the season to end around that character only. But in the last moments of this penultimate episode of the season, it was more disappointment than a shock to see the end of Ed Stark.

Though I cannot challenge the right of the writer over his characters, but as a viewer, I would have been happier to see him alive and back to Winterfell or maybe ruling the Kingdom. But I believe the death of Ed Stark gives a disappointment towards the end of the series which could have been the avoided.

It's rather Gyan on the Attacks of 26/11
12 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
What do we expect from a movie made on a Terrorist Attack? Bare minimum is that it presents the account of the events unfolded. But what this movie actually tells is: 1. How mercilessly the people were killed in Mumbai Attacks at the various landmarks. 2. How helpless the police was. 3. Gyan on what is Jihad and what it isn't.

Though it was made in way back 2013, it is not that popular and rightly so. People don't expect much from Ram Gopal Varma but Nana Patekar was someone to look for in this movie.

But even Nana was a mere narrator in the movie and not much more. Below is what could have been there in the movie

1. How Police control reacted to the attacks. 2. What State Govt. did in the state of panic. 3. Reaction of the Center, delay in the movement of NSG. 4. Most importantly, the NSG operation in the Taj and beyond.

How do you expect to make a movie on Mumbai Attacks without including all these?

Family movies are back in Indian Cinemas
9 October 2012
There was a time when we normally sat with family while watching TV and used go to movies with them. Those were the times when movies were made that way so that you can watch them with your parents or children. Fortunately or unfortunately, with time we adopted a bit of western style of filmmaking and added salt and spices to the scripts to an extent where it's all spices but no actual script.

But now, it's good to see some movies in Indian cinema that you can proudly take your parents to watch. OMG - Oh My God that came last week had similar qualities and now, English Vinglish is even better.

Of course, it is a comeback movie of Sridevi but that's not how she was portrayed in the movie. All the characters in the movie had a detail attached to them and it wasn't a one (wo)man show! It's true that the movie revolves around her but the other characters complement her so well and they stay in your mind even after you come back home. A friend pointed out after the movie that all great movies have details given to even the smallest of the character and I couldn't agree more!

The beauty of the movie is in its simplicity and those cute little things that we can connect so well with our lives. Not at one single moment the movie makes you feel bored and you definitely go back home with a smile on your face and joy in your heart!

This season starts in a hurry
23 September 2012
When compared to all the previous seasons, this one seems to start in a hurry. In the previous seasons, the new characters were introduced in a way that the viewer gets time to sink them inside. But the things start at a pace in this season. They must be counting on the maturity of the viewer of 24, which must have increased with all these passing seasons.

Needless to say, the character of Jack Bauer has grown with time and the piece of acting we get to see in this first episode says it all.

But the plot does leaves me with questions. How come Jack Bauer could not escape from the Chinese? The fact that he remained in the Chinese capture does not do justice with the level of intelligence he has.

Maybe, they have kept a answer for this in the coming episodes!

Unorthodox ending among all 5 seasons
23 September 2012
The ending of this season is unique in the sense that all the other seasons ended with a sense of completion of the story which leaves viewer with a peace of mind. But this season ends with an quite abrupt ending leaving us thinking about "what now"!

Overall, the season was as sensational as other seasons and it has similar nature of plot as the last couple of seasons where there are multiple climax present for the viewers to experience.

One more thing I found a bit different is the fun element included with the familiar character of Chloe. She has got more mature and funnier with the passing episodes which feels nice actually!

This movie is close to Boman Irani's heart, rightly so.
17 August 2012
In a recent interview given to a reporter after movie "Ferrari ki Sawari", a question was asked from Boman that which movie is closest to his heart. Boman modestly answered that all the movies are special but "Well done Abba" has a special place in his heart.

Though it's quite old movie, I only watched it in fractions until today when I watched it completely and throughly enjoyed every single moment of it.

It's another brilliant performance by the versatile Boman Irani and the other characters in the movie are crafted nicely as well. And the movie does leave a mark on your heart.

The well known situation of corruption at every level is portrayed in a light hearted manner and how Abba fights with it is a treat to watch. This reminds me of the movies like "Khosla ka Ghosla" which is a story of another common man and how he faces and overcomes the challenges with the support of family and friends.

If you still haven't watched it for some reason, put it towards the top in your Watchlist! ;)
