The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
A struggle to watch!
It's not good when one has to struggle to watch something which they hoped would truly deliver them to the fantasy world they dearly adored as a kid and still adores as an adult.
I'm so disappointed with the Rings of Power. I've watched 3 episodes and it's disjointed, boring and lacking heart. It's clearly trying to force itself to be epic and fails horrendously because the story simply is not there. The writing and development of characters is appalling. How can it be so difficult to write a decent story? It's all over the place. I don't know how so much money could be thrown at a project and serve up such a dull hollow show. The music seems completely out of place, it tries to be grand, sweeping and epic but when played against the dullish storyline, causes the show to be twisted even more. I really wanted to at least get some enjoyment from this show but dear God, I think I'm gonna have to let go of that hope. What were the writer's thinking? I was so pissed at what was done to the Wheel of Time, to see it repeated, wow!
The main character Galadriel is completely unlikeable. Galadriel versus the world. A petulant angry child, you wouldn't think she was 5000 years old.
It's horrifying what this show has done to the whole world of Middle Earth. I don't know if it can be redeemed. I could at least forgive this insult to Tolkien's vision if there was some level of a story of substance and decent writing present. Going forward, they need to find some new writers if any exist in Hollywood at the moment.
Drab, dull and boring. The only thing it has going for it is that it does look visually impressive. So a visually impressive show full of dull unlikable characters involved in a disjointed all over the place empty boring story. No heart, no guts, no entertainment. Pathetic. I've been generous giving this show 4 stars probably because that little boy inside is hoping for a miracle of writing talent to appear and save the day.
How to Sell Drugs Online (Fast) (2019)
Snappy Sharp Witty Fun
I've seen some excellent shows coming out of Germany recently and this show is another that delivers quality entertainment.
It's addictive and there is a binge risk with this one. Acting is superb. Very well edited and packaged delivering a crisp sharp viewing experience. The show never takes its foot of the accelerator and you'll find yourself engrossed from start to finish. There's plenty of fun, humour and sarcasm. There's never a dull moment.
Very impressed and thoroughly enjoyed watching it. I hope so see more quality programme's from Germany.
(Couple of nerdy kids setup an online drugs shop and find themselves getting deeper and deeper into the shady dealings of the illegal drug trade. Whilst balancing normal teenage life, they are faced with many challenges to friendships and potential risks to their own lives as a result of their involvement with illegal drugs. Trying to find an exit strategy proves more and more difficult and meanwhile their high profile online site draws increased attention from the law)
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Nostalgic Visual Joyfest
Loved it. Lots of homage to the first movie. Simple straightforward no bulls**t storyline. But the aerial jet scenes are outstanding..........no CGI flight scenes, absolutely spoiled....wow!! Acting is great. Big time impressed with the guy playing gooses' son, we'll be seeing a lot more of him. Very well put together movie. Cast must have enjoyed making this. Massive respect to Cruise, he helped deliver a thoroughly enjoyable return to Top Gun, my inner child and older self was blown away. My head was spinning leaving the cinema, action scenes were that real and intense. Definitely will have to watch again. A real treat!
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Rocket paced thriller
Strap in and hold on. Excellent film with a lot of depth. Can't take your eyes off the screen. Original and fresh, might need and second watch as it's so deep. Actors playing the Wang parents are exceptional. This is a real brain-twisting Gem in a time of brittle lacklustre overly PC movie options.
Prey (2022)
Suitably entertained
I enjoyed my time spent watching the movie. Was it epic like the original, nope, but a good attempt. Some scratchy dialogue that wouldn't have needed much effort to improve on. Well shot, scenic, good development of the female lead role (I was very worried it would be too woke but didn't feel it here), loved the relationship between the lead role and her dog. An entertaining watch. Could have been easily improved on with some minor tweaks to the script.
1408 (2007)
Wow
So good I only watched it once.
I haven't watched it for a long time now, I just barely remember it must have scared the bejayus out of me. I will have to watch it again and take in why it had such a disturbing affect on me.
Really superbly made.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
WoT fan somewhat bored with TV mess....stick to the story!
Very disappointed with the series. Why make so many unnecessary changes to a legendary story, one can understand some adaptations are required but way too much messing going on here. I feel they got a lot of the casting wrong, some very wooden acting, and the whole series whilst visually stunning just lacks something, perhaps it was too rushed. Unless it improves hugely I can't see WoT going to the end. I was lukewarm with season 1 of the Witcher but I found season 2 awesome. They have a lot of work to do on WoT series, particularly with actor development, and script writing, and please stop messing around with the story!
The Water Man (2020)
Terrible
Gave this a shot based on a few high ratings. Wish I hadn't!
Story is poor. Lacklustre. No content. The music used to build attempted tension awful.
Just so so bad. Don't waste your time.
