Old (2021)
No Risks Taken
Unique idea made for a good trailer but the execution was terrible. Not only was I not invested in any of the characters, I was outright BORED. Most of the actors were so bad with their delivery, at first I thought this movie would turn into a Cabin in the Woodsesk Parody. One can only wish. Instead I would compare it to another M. Night flop - The Happening, as they both felt like an interesting concept butchered by execution. At least the Happening was funny bad.
Just Friends (2005)
Just as I remembered
Maybe it's nostalgia, but rewatching this as an adult was about as fun as I remember as a kid. As far as shitty early 2000's romcoms go- this is a pretty good one. I'm realizing now just how many little quibs in this movie I have continued to say throughout the years. With a fun holiday feel to it, its easy to forgive some of the typical movie tropes this movie is littered with. Looks like Ryan Reynolds has always been capable of leading an entertaining comedy.
At Eternity's Gate (2018)
Inside the mind of Vincent Van Gogh
A both beautiful & painful depiction of the last months of Vincent Van Gogh. Vincents 'thoughts' were laid out perfectly over breathtaking cinematography & landscapes, accompanied by a score that slows time - often only to be interrupted. A sense of realism is felt when a beautiful moment is cut short by a passing character, or intrusive thought of Van Gogh's. While those broken moments are jarring, I felt I best understood the emotion ment to be conveyed & the sheer frustration he might've felt being an artist, in a world that wasn't yet ready for him.
Vincent himself being so perfectly portrayed by Willem, I might just imagine him when I think of the impressionist. The tender relationship between him & Rupert Friend had even me feeling safety when they were together.
As an aspiring creative myself - watching the film made me feel like, an Artist; and despite an arguably bitter end- I was left with a sense of warmth.
