Reptile (2023)
LA not-so confidential
I liked the movie near the the 1st act of it, I saw immediately what the Director was going for in style and storytelling. The premise felt promising and very ambitious at first but then it fell out of pace with the extremely slow burn type of events. You can recognize the bad guys almost immediately. Some characters were completely useless. And actions of main character was questionable near the end of the movie.
I'd have been more satisfied if a darker turn happened in the 3rd act maybe but no. It felt lacking but all and all a decent movie to watch once.
I liked Benicio's performance and some action sequences. And some artistic compositions.
The Retirement Plan (2023)
Sad..
I didn't really regret watching the movie since I don't mind a no brainer every now and then, but I was sad to see all this great talent go to waste..
I mean Jackie Earle Haley of Little Children has a silly corky dialogue that doesn't stick or actually feel thought through.. Same with Ron Perlman..
The whole film feels like a prolonged episode of Baywatch.
You can spot all the stunt doubles throughout the entire film.
It felt like everyone was lazy acting and no one really gave a damn about how the movie will turn out to be.
Nic Cage still has it somehow, and by "it" I mean the ability to really confuse everyone if he's actually acting a script or just improvising as he goes.
The movie is good for a fun no brainer watch and that's it.
Hijack (2023)
Eye-rolling exercise..
Nothing makes any sense in this show.. Overstretched unrealistic incidents and decisions from characters that make you question reality..
It's almost like the writers didn't even fact-check aviation rules or codes..
The main character actions are strange and not justified by any means, for example:
He chose to waste the only chance he got to send out a text on sending a vague one to his ex instead of reaching out to the emergency services! Helping out the hijackers throughout the whole ordeal under the premise that he's trying to gain their trust!
And the pilot decided to say a vague distress signal to the ground base instead of yelling codes or even saying it as it is!
I laughed out loud multiple times near the final episode because of how absurd the show was handling its loose plot lines..
You literally have to cancel your brain completely to enjoy this show somehow..
Blue Beetle (2023)
Modern day Spy Kids!
There's nothing attractive about this film whatsoever.. Starting from the corky colors going through the terrible script to the unbelievably bad acting.
The plot is not original in any way. You can vaguely see what the creators were going for but they ended up with bits and pieces of scenes that look too familiar to another superhero film(s) accompanied with some of the worst CGI work of the year..
I was mostly annoyed throughout the whole film..
No idea who would find this film amusing!
My rating is 3/10 for the good performance from Raoul Trujillo and some good camera movement work in a couple of scenes.
Unbroken (2014)
It felt more like a documentary than a war drama.
Such an incredible story that was interpreted to screen in such a mediocre way. The movie had what any movie should have to be great, but it turned out a little loose, some parts took too long than it needed and some other parts that went through unnoticed. Flashback/flash-forward sequences were awkward, acting wasn't on the level, directing wasn't as good as regular war movies but then again let's cut Angelina a break (it's her 1st big movie). All and all, I think this movie lack a definition, as it didn't define itself, it's neither a motivational "all-in" type of war movies nor a "deep thoughts/let's think about life" type of war drama.. It just failed to hit some nerves. Still it's a fairly good movie, it could've been a little shorter than 137 minutes though.
John Wick (2014)
I can't see what the fuzz is all about.
Honestly I saw the movie as clichéed as any, plot was overused and predictable but then again it's an action movie. Action sequence was okay, some good stunts and choreography (it felt real in some scenes). For me, this kind of movies don't stick, there's almost no original scenes in the entire movie, not a single unique whatever that would make anyone remember it say a year or two from now. Characters were not as solid as they were needed to be and of course they didn't need to be solid at all! It didn't strike me as a Noir movie as it didn't have the right equation of one. Overall, it's a no-brainer fun for a night with the boys I guess. Oh and yes Keanu Reeves doesn't age!
The Gambler (2014)
No reason needed..
Maybe the greatest gambling action the main character took was gambling with his own life, that's how it seemed like with a story line so different than any other gambling movie I've ever seen. The movie focuses on the motives behind any gambler actually starting a life long habit of taking chances, motives that are a little bit blurred, maybe for the money or success or both (or none). The definition of gambling is "Taking risky action in the hope of a desired result" the character of Jim Bennett (Wahlberg) didn't feel that society needs mediocre level anymore, he felt like genius should be recognized, and "genius" was what he gambled for..
A fairly enjoyable movie with a well built main character. Some solid acting of course, I for one love the soundtrack played throughout the movie and of course enjoyed watching the John Goodman!
Hector and the Search for Happiness (2014)
Well done Simon Pegg
Enjoyable movie that leaves you with a heart warming feeling right after. The story line didn't wait long to jump into action and didn't build up too much to the start of a journey -not like similar movies, for example The secret life of Walter Mitty- movie didn't focus on sceneries and that was a plus, It was about time for Simon Pegg to start altering and maturing his acting level to be honest his performance was a pleasant surprise still you can see him close to a beer or two in a few scenes. The Ending was a little wrapped up for my taste but all and all it didn't fall too far away from how the storyline made us expect.
