The Batman (2022)
Long, boring, bad story. Not even mediocre.
Hyped to heaven.
Was really looking forward to this but I must say, after an hour in, I started to look at my phone. I sat through it and should get a reward for that.
The weirdest part is, I saw online an take-out of the movie. A jail converstaion between the Bat and the Joker. Genius material. The best part of the movie. Van't understand why this was left on the floor of the editor.
Great atmosfhere, utterly dark and gripping. Make a Bat movie with this theme but please stay away from this pretenious and long long dribble.
IO (2019)
See it for what is is
Could have been more but they tried to give it a morealistic twist. Besides that, the movie itself is stylishl, somewhat slow paced but never boring. The end is controversial. You can basically make your own ending from when the end credits start.
Not the best film I ever saw but certainly better than most of the rating displayed here and certainly worth more than 1 star
Castle Rock (2018)
From genius to yawn
As a King fan, I had real hopes for this series.
After the first episode I felt the hopes were to be fulfilled.
But after the first episode the show dropped well below mediocre with the Spacek episode as a second highlight in the series. After that, I felt that even the actors didn't know what the hell they were doing and were just as puzzled where the story went as the viewers were.
Nope, not for me.
Schindler's List (1993)
Testament for an Era ..
All critics below this you rated this a 1, you should be utterly ashamed of yourself. regardless your religion, race or political opinion, this epic movie is a true testament of one of the blackest peiods of human history.
Spielberg and all actors made this movie in a way that hits you hard and stays with you for a long, long time. If only one person is changed after seeing this movie, it was all worth it.
Spielbergs most powerfull and visious tale of massmurder is told in a way without ANY spectacle. Told as a documentary, true, hars and without emotion.
The viewer is engulved in a tidelwave of brutal sights, gut wrenching scenes and an more than anything feeling of utter horror when realizing this all happened not more than75 years ago.
Those who rate this a 1 have totally not got the message and probably have a different political opinion or a different religion. Please understand, ths is not a movie about killing Jews but it shows the brutallity people can do to eachother because the need a race to blame. This movie can de translated into all different forms. Native Americans, Jews, Palistinians, it really does not matter.
It is a tribute to the men who put life and compassion above hate and ignorance. You should also.
Ender's Game (2013)
One of the better ones ....
Watched it again after a year of 3 and still very impressed with the movie.
Starts out like a run of the mill "youth growing up and saving the world"
You see 13 in a dozen of these with vartous themes. Enders Game floats above these. Brilliant special effects and much deeper caracters than the rest.
Best is the total reverse of the movie after about 75 %.
It turns into a dark and deep movie with a very very strong message.
Brillaiantly acted, lively caracters, great story and even Mr. Ford didn't look as a derivative of Han Solo.
Should be rated much higher than the IMDB rating and in my opinion a must see !! Highly recommended to all true SciFi fans.
Annihilation (2018)
Utter waste of time and talent
Disguised as an artistic scifi masterpiece, annihilation is the worst move I have ever seen. It has hitterally no story, plotholes you cfan sink the titanic in and absolutely no action. If you saw the trailer, you've seen the movie. Think trailer and blablabla and faces with disturbed looks on them and voilla, Annihilation.
Also an utter wast of talent. Caracters are waferthin and transparent, no depth, no background, nothing. Nataly Portland and JJ Leigh look as they are surprised that they ended up in such a piece of rubbish.
I read the comments and I read things like "misunderstood masterpiece""epic moviemaking" I can appreciate the artsyfartsy comments from people who think they see something the majority didn't see but I honestly don't know what. Even the CGI is mediocre to say the least.
The Expanse (2015)
wow, finally a great sci fi show
In my humble opinion of the best ever and certainly the best in a decade sci fi show around. Great, deep and dark story full of twists and layers. Great acting and even the good guys have dark edges. Absolute fantastic effects, fully believable i.e. no fishhead aliens, robots or otherwise too far out to believe effects. I was addicted with the first season and following the second with great enthousiasme. As far as I seen the episodes of S2, the story flows seamlessly into season one and gets better with each episode. My wife, who hates scifi, saw season one in just 2 days and loves the second season as much as I do. A definite winner !!
Helix (2014)
Great potential
Justfinished the first three episodes and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. Reading the reviews I expected something Uwe Bohl'ish but it was quite entertaining. Not hindered by famous names, the cast performs well, characters are not too deep and I fear not being dug out further on but entertainment wise this is good. Storyline is nothing new but with a new twist and lots of room to develop in different directions. Music and camera are just great. Nice angels and camera positions combined with music you do nit expect give the series a nice atmosphere. Remember, all is located in a sealed off facility so much room to play with surroundings or upcoming situations is not present. If they keep up this pace and atmosphere, I will definitely recommend this one. For all you who find things "not accurate and realistic" why are you watching the scifi channel in the first place ? It's scifi remember ?
De inbreker (1972)
Nice view of the Dutch movie-making in the 60-70's
Recently deceased Rijk de Gooyer is at his best in this movie. Like in real life, Rijk is humorous, tough and resourcefully. John Blooming, a Dutch martial arts expert and trainer of the Dutch Olympic Karate team a long time ago, plays the role of the big, strong but not too bright sidekick very convincing. His massive appearance says more than words. I saw this movie many years ago and it always stuck in my mind. Mostly because Mr. de Gooyer plays the role of burgles very convincing and the nice storyline for a Dutch movie. As my previous raters already mentioned, the view of Amsterdam is very nice but not very realistic. All in all, a movie worth seeing also for an international audience when subtitled.
Serenity (2005)
Still a jewel
Saw both Firefly and Serenity again after a few years and again wondering why this jewel of Whedon has been canceled or no follow up movies were made after Serenity. Finally a sf series with a twist, excellently made, great characters and a huge fanbase. Being a huge scify fan, I rank both the series and the movie in the top 5 of scifi series and movies out there. Compare this with the StarTrek movies and be surprised with the pace, storyline and characters of Serenity. It can best be compared with the first StarTrek movies, when they still had fun making the movie not being pushed by the almighty banknote. Both Firefly and Serenity are made with love and warmth. The interaction between characters feel real and the world created by Whedon also feels genuine and more "believeable" No green aliens, hyper intelligence race or weird looking things. The visited worlds look real and the motives of the bad guys on those worlds are also real. No world domination but just trying to survive and make a buck. I really hope someone decides to pick up the series again and give it the attention and follow up it deserves.
Cracker (1993)
Best show in years
Sometimes you come across something that "hangs" in your mind. Many years later you still remember story lines, characters or even the name of a movie or show. This is one of these things. Aired late at night years ago, I alway remembered the episodes I saw. Television making optima forma. Yaw-dropping story lines, real characters and the ultimate escape from this real world to another real world. More than a spectator, you are drawn into the story as an active participant. Although not all episodes are equally strong, even the weakest episode is better than anything on TV in recent years. Besides that, the overall level is the highest I saw in years. Think Sopranos but better. Coltrane gives the best performance of his life, he doesn't play Fitz, he IS Fitz. Supporting cast is elevated to the same level of expertise, you feel like you're looking at a cast who worked together for years and years. Never boring, always riveting. Now, after 13 years, I bought the DVD box. Although dated at some points (Fitz is very surprised his son has a cell phone) the same thrilling experience is still there.
