Con Air (1997)
Very good action movie
CON AIR is a very funny, good movie. I don't mean good as in top 250 standard, but good nonetheless.
Cameron Poe (Nicholas Cage) gets involved in a fight to defend his wife Trisha (Monica Potter) and is sentenced to seven years in jail. On his flight home are convicts Cyrus 'The Virus' Grisson (John Malkovich), Johnny 23, a rapist (Danny Trejo), there are also others but they're not so important. Later they pick up Garland 'The Marietta Mangler' Green (Steve Buscemi). US Marshall Vince Larkin (John Cusack) tries to intervene whilst his 'buddies' are trying to gun the plane down. That's all you really need to know.
The plane is then taken over by Cyrus and that's where it starts to go wrong. I'm not telling you the ending because that would ruin the film, but I assure you it's a good ending, and there are a few people who cry, me being one of them.
John Malkovich and Steve Buscemi both prove that they can sing, and Steve Buscemi gives by far the best performance, his facial expression barely changes and his character is the most convincing, and he is sort of a 'nice' psycho in a way. Yes, it is a slighty Lecter-inspired performance, (but who cares, Steve Buscemi is a much better actor than Anthony Hopkins). As for Cage's accent, well I'm not American, I've never been to America, and I thought it was pretty good, however I'm sure there are a lot of Americans who would beg to differ.
You don't have to understand the details. The plot is basic. Just enjoy the action and all the funny parts, and obviously Steve Buscemi. 10/10
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
Not as good as the original, but a very good remake!
Well, as I said in the summary, it's not as good as the original, but it's still very good.
It starts with Erin (Jessica Biel), Pepper (Erica Leehrsen), Andy (Mike Vogel), Morgan (Jonathan Tucker) and Kemper(Eric Balfour), five teenagers on their way to a Lynyrd Skynyrd concert (Great start because I love Lynyrd Skynyrd). They pick up a teenage girl (Lauren German) who ends up shooting herself in the mouth and that's where it all starts to go wrong. They try and find the sheriff but everything becomes disastrous. Later, they encounter Thomas Hewitt/Leatherface (Andrew Bryniarski), a chainsaw wielding maniac intent on killing them all. Although Luda Mae tries to tell Erin that Leatherface is basically misunderstood, he's pretty scary and the teenagers die in some pretty gruesome ways, including Erin having to stab Andy to put him out of his misery.
Andrew Bryniarski is not as good as the original Leatherface Gunnar Hansen, but he does a pretty good job. Jessica Biel who plays Erin is not as good as Marilyn Burns as Sally Hardesty but I think she does a pretty good job as well. Also in the cast is R Lee Ermey, a 'sheriff' who adds a nice touch to the movie.
All in all it's a very good movie which I very much enjoyed. It still keeps to the original - old man, chainsaw, meat hook, heroin, nasty deaths - but it adds some new elements as well, which I liked. Sure, it's not as good as the original, but definitely worth the watch. 9/10.
All the Queen's Men (2001)
Could have been So Funny!
I mean, its not the worst film ever, but it's up there. I picked up this for £1 - yes £1 - at Woolworths and I can honestly say it was worth NO MORE. I picked it up because I like Matt Le Blanc - but not as an actor - and seeing him in drag was, well, disturbing. That's pretty much the only word to describe this movie - disturbing. You can forget horror films which have millions of complaints on the message board for being disturbing - if you really want nightmares, watch All the Queen's Men.
They could have made this film so funny - Eddie Izzard and Matt Le Blanc? I expected it to be really, really entertaining and it really, really wasn't. There are about, I think, three funny moments which made me LAUGH, but the rest of it was so SERIOUS - yes it's about war, but it's also about men dressing up as women! If you want to see a FUNNY film with men in drag, go see Some Like It Hot. Stay away from this. If you like Eddie Izzard, then maybe it's worth watching. If you like Matt Le Blanc, don't watch it. If you want to see a poorly done, badly acted, disturbing film - watch it! And finally - if you really do want to see it, only watch it if it's on television or get it online, but don't spend money on it, unless it's £1 or less. Trust me, it is NOT worth it.
Bring It On (2000)
The Worst Movie Ever, EVER made.
If I could rate this movie any LOWER I would. Everything about this movie is terrible. Bad acting (although Kirsten Dunst isn't too bad, I guess), bad storyline, bad script, not funny, bad casting, bad directing...I could go on. Yes this movie was not supposed to be taken seriously, but it was still the worst movie ever made.
Stay away from this movie. If it comes on, change the channel. Do not waste your money on it. If I was offered £100 to watch this again, I would say no. I wasted about an hour and a half of my life watching this. I want to demand that time back.
All copies of this 'movie' should be burned.
The Hills Have Eyes (2006)
Good Film. But expect to scream 'MORON!' at the television.
I haven't seen the original so obviously, I can't say whether it's better or not. But I quite enjoyed this. Sure, it's gory, violent and disturbing, but I still liked it.
All the acting is very good; particularly Ted Levine and Aaron Stanford. The mutants are also very good, but the only thing that drags the movie down is how UNBELIEVABLY STUPID the characters are. I was watching this and going 'Moron! Moron!' at the television, I was so frustrated. But you can still enjoy the movie - however if they hadn't been QUITE so astonishingly dim, I might have given this movie an 8.
All in all, its quite a good movie. It's worth watching.
