When I watched this movie, I expected a continuation from the 2nd movie, not having previously read that Eun-Kyung Shin was either pregnant or replaced. As the other commenter noted, this film was/may have been been bought out by Miramax. This movie was good, but I expected the story to connect to the 2nd at some point, and left me puzzled. After an hour and a half, I realized that something was wrong. No Eun-Kyung Shin, no Zhang Ziyi. This movie could have been named something else entirely. Instead it is a totally different movie loosely based on gangsters, a strong female lead that can kick butt, and a goofy guy. I gave it a 6/10.

In comparison with his American efforts, any of his Chinese based movies easily outshines any of his newer US productions, and this particular one is no exception. Though Jackie Chan is getting older, it still doesn't stop him from making good (or bad) movies. It certainly doesn't stop a lot of US actors. If I can move like Jackie Chan does when I get to his age, i'd be glad. (Especially since I cant even do some of those moves now) The movie moves at a steady pace, with some parts that are a bit over-reaching and over-emotional, but has some really spectacular stunts and action. I am posting this review primarily as a counterpoint to the previous users comment. I don't understand why someone who doesn't like ANY of Jackie Chan's movies would write a (biased) review. I don't write reviews on movies I hate, and I don't go to movies featuring an actor/acress I don't enjoy, so I have to wonder why he did so.

I recently bought the Chinese DVD and watched it all over again. This was easily one of the best movies I had seen in 1994. There are 2 different versions out, I saw the original Chinese version. Detractors of the movie probably saw the American version, or do understand Chinese culture. The fight scenes are easily some of the best ever made and I consider Drunken Master the peak of Jackie Chan's movies. It helps to have seen the first movie, but is not necessary.

An interesting note: The original director was released over creative conflicts and Jackie Chan took over. The original director, went on to make Drunken Master 3.

I disagree with some of the comments about this movie. It is an action movie, there doesnt need to be alot of character development or alot of story (the double and triple crosses were confusing tho).

I went in expecting an awesome action movie, and thats what I got. My date didnt see the previous 2 movies, and to tell the truth, I dont remember much about them, but the movie stands up by itself and we enjoyed ourselves.
