Black Adam (2022)
I walked out of the theater liking what the rock was cookin
Aside from a 15 minute exposition dump, some cliche slow motion shots, and a pace more jumpy than a pre teen after drinking his first Red Bull, I really enjoyed black Adam as a comic book film. It was very obvious from jump street that the rock himself has been a fan of the character of black Adam for many years. And while the villain they chose for this film was quite forgettable , The JSA were a really smart introduction to the DCEU. Aldis Hodge was the standout for me as Hawkman and Pierce Brosnan as Dr fate was eye candy in every single action sequence. Screenplay was a bit uneven but this movie is just flat out fun. Didn't find myself bored at all (aside from the first 15-20 minutes ) . I applaud them for making a film with so many moving parts and still finding a way to make it work, I'd compare it to the likes of Spider-Man 3. It doesn't always work from a script and storytelling standpoint but I left the theater feeling satisfied overall. Dwayne Johnson was unintentionally hilarious as black Adam , but for once I didn't see the rock doing his typical shtick . He was stoic and badass , which you get to see right away because black Adam does some crazy fatalities on people throughout the film. I'd grade this film a B- , not perfect but just good dumb fun. A classic "B" superhero flick which were always guilty pleasures of mine.
The Batman (2022)
The definitive Batman detective story I've been longing for
Powered by Matt reeves, a masterful score and respect for the source material, "The Batman" is a triumph in every sense of the word. It's not just gritty but sometimes downright scary, the riddler is unlike anything we've seen before in a Batman villain. Performances across the board were superb, specifically Pattinson as Batman and Zoe kravitz as Selena Kyle. I wish the third act was more satisfying and that Alfred had more screen time but other than that this is a perfect Batman film. Taking inspiration from Batman year one and the long Halloween comic storylines, this film weaves all those tales together to craft something really unique that we have never seen before in a **comic book movie**. Yes some people are going to say it's too similar to seven or zodiac but I actually enjoyed that aspect. Made it feel believable, almost as if any one of us could become Batman if push came to shove.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)
A very enjoyable 90 minutes of comic book mayhem
Fueled by Tom Hardy and his passion for the source material, "Venom: Let there be carnage" is a massive triumph in terms of fan service and dark comedy that mostly hits. Definitely a distinguishable improvement over the the first film, although it could have been maybe 15-20 minutes longer just to develop its characters a little bit more.
