Unicorn: Warriors Eternal (2023)
Very 80s
I love everything this guy creates. I'm just a little unsure as to why he seems to have ripped off Unico, a tale of a little unicorn. I get the entire 80s thing. I just thought he was so much more creative than this.
It's not a bad show, so far. But it seems pretty generic in a way I was not expecting. I'm 3 episodes deep and it mostly seems like something I can fall all asleep to at night while slowly turning the volume down.
The animation is honestly the saving grace of the show. It's ripped directly from 80s cartoons, so take of that what you will in terms of creativity. Let's just support good content while it's here, and get more anime back on the air.
White House Plumbers (2023)
It's just not that great
Okay, here's my major issue: the series just isn't that great. It's not funny enough to be a dramedy, it's not interesting enough cinematography to keep your senses enriched, and it's just plain boring. I couldn't even fall asleep to it and that should say a lot. I get that it's "satire" but I genuinely do not see a single aspect of the genre represented.
The actors are decent. I'm surprised HBO green lit this project, as I genuinely expected so much more from the director and writers. I'm sorry but this is my third attempt at getting through the second episode and I just can't. Please do better, HBO.
House of the Dragon (2022)
Cheap imitation is not art
George RR Martin was essentially a laughing stock in the fantasy world. He relied upon heavy sexual violence and cheap deaths to propel his writings.
Well.... If he's truly a part of this series, then it's clearly still cheap and blah.
Honestly, if I can feel MORE for a 10-min character in a cheap scifi/fantasy Warhammer book by Dan Abnett than I feel for a single one of these cheap, CW character? Well, it's sad.
I wanted to enjoy it more.
I gave 4 stars because it's not entirely terrible, but who can truly care about any show where nobody cares about anyone by the end? I mean, it's just bad storytelling. Of COURSE we all want to love the dragons and have more, but genuinely. After the first episode, what were we left with that didn't rely upon the successful original and it's lore?
Phoebe Robinson: Sorry, Harriet Tubman (2021)
This was bad
I really wanted to like this. I love 2 Dope Queens, and all I could think was "Wow. HBO is trying to up their comedy game, and clearly didn't bother to spend the money that Netflix would have." It felt insulting to the artist. She should have been showcased better and I truly hope that she knows her comedy is gold. Please don't stop! But please. Don't watch this.
