Willow (2022)
It Only Gets Better
I'm an early 80s child and naturally the Willow film has been a long-time favorite. I'll admit the first episode or two had me on the fence, but if you are a true fan of the movie and give the show a chance to develop the characters and story, I believe you will enjoy it.
I am thrilled with how they've handled the special effects and haven't used CG for everything. It felt cohesive with the original. There are also so many Easter eggs and cameos. Also, I have to add the soundtrack is incredible!
Do I agree with every choice or plot twist? No, but it didn't disrupt the overall story for me. The second half of this season really drew me in and had me back in the magic of the original while offering a fresh perspective.
I wish people were not able to review until they watched the whole season. So many just gave up in the beginning only to come on here and try to damage the hard work that went into this show. You can't please everyone. I recommend skipping those reviews, giving the show an actual chance, and forming your own opinions.
A Kismet Christmas (2022)
Christmas Magic
I enjoyed this film so much. It was full of the love and Christmas magic that I always look for in a Hallmark movie. I was blown away by the leading characters - talk about chemistry! Marilu Henner is always a treat and the girl who played Jasmine did a great job compared to most of the child actors I see in these movies. Story-wise, I was a big fan of the nostalgia of baking with her Granma and the what-ifs of that first love. I also appreciated the line about how it was too early (at 17 I think) for her to use the Kismet cookie. It is an important lesson that sometimes we have to live a little and lead separate lives until it is time to come back together and start a new chapter. I'm not sure why it was necessary for the Granma to actually move in order for her granddaughter to stay. I also hated that Benny did not get his Kismet cookie. Like some of the others have said, there were a few holes and loose ends, but in general I loved it and would absolutely watch it again.
Christmas Bedtime Stories (2022)
Missed Opportunity
This could have been a beautiful story of how a woman, a mother, who had survived her grief and come out the other side. It could have helped those who have suffered similar losses by giving them hope of finding love again and showing the beauty of a blended family. Instead they have set up a dangerous story that will keep those grieving clinging to the past. If I had seen this shortly after my fiancé died, I would have watched it over and over again because it would have kept me in a state of tears and wishful thinking. I am a big believer of signs, but those signs could have been used in a Hello Dolly way to give this woman permission to move on. The story was just not set up for this type of ending and it seems like two different people wrote it with very little collaboration. Even if the ending had been acceptable, it was so inaccurate in terms of how this man's return would have gone - from his looks to the protocol. It almost makes you wonder if the woman is dreaming at the end. I was just shocked by the decisions that went into this film and I hope these reviews will be taken to heart. I feel sorry for the actors who did a fantastic job with the content they were given. Thankfully I watched Kismet Christmas after this which actually gave me the satisfaction I was hoping to gain from this film.
