Deadly Islands (2014– )

Interesting idea but....
12 March 2024
Thought this had really interesting potential when I read the premise but after watching a couple of episodes it seems everything is done just for dramatic effect. The presenter constantly talks on the exhale and seems to want to be more of an action hero than a biologist. His knowledge of the subject seems very basic and if you watch nature shows in general he's not telling you anything you don't already know and goes chasing after animals trying to make out it is a deadly situation when it isn't as the camera is already in position before he makes his dramatic move. Trying to be a nature presenter with a Jason Statham vibe.

Loved it until....
30 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Being British and a huge fan of the original, it took me a while to watch this. I gave episode 1 a few attempts but struggled with how identical it was to it's counterpart and gave up. Covid then hit and Netflix had S1-10 and I thought I'd binge it. After a few episodes I'm glad I stuck with it, the characters came into themselves and even though you could see the similarities in the storylines they made it there own and I started to enjoy it and even googled certain areas mentioned and street names to see the area it was filmed in.. As the series went on a few things grated on me. The ever annoying intros at the beginning of every episode from a different character weekly. Debbie became really unwatchable once she had Franny and found myself skipping forward some of her scenes. Fiona becoming a property mogul overnight and Ian's gay Jesus storyline. The character that stood out to me was Kevin Ball, more involved that the UK KB and delivered some great funny moments throughout the whole series. Once the final series eventually landed on NF I was disappointed it ended and have since binged it a few times since.

Don't reboot classics
9 January 2023
As a huge fan of all the CSI franchises (even Cyber) I was looking forward to this. I binged the first series and had high hopes with the return of a few familiar faces but something just didn't seem quite right. The camaraderie was missing between the characters, they just didn't gel and it seemed like they were literally just reading lines. No fluidity, it was obvious they were all strangers, yet in the original series you genuinely believed they were colleagues and friends at the same time. I've just started the 2nd series and it hasn't got any better. I am British and have lived and worked all over the UK yet Mandeep Dhillon's accent is overbearing and annoying to the point it's making me want to switch off. It seems forced. I doubt very much I will finish this series.

A typical Christmas.......
4 December 2022
It's cheesey, it's corny and it's a Christmas movie. What more do you expect. You don't even have to read up on the plot of the film to know right from the opening scenes how this movie ends. But who cares. It's an easy watch without having to put to much thought in to it. The young girls facial expressions were a little OTT for me especially just from seeing a sweet in the advent calender. It's the same premise of a 1000 other Christmas movies and I found it a quite enjoyable 90 minute watch on a miserable dark Sunday morning with a coffee and just the lights of the Christmas tree. It won't go down as a holiday classic but it ok for a one time watch.

When I need an easy watch
27 November 2022
I watch this movie a few times a year. It is my go to movie when I need an easy watch and a good laugh. If you know the movies they are mimicking it makes it even funnier. At the time of writing this I can't believe it's now 21 years old. Some great cameos from the original movies they're spoofing and some young actors that have now gone onto bigger things ie Chris Evans. If you get the humour you'll find it funny. The song they sing at the prom is pretty catchy too and find myself rewinding that part and watching it a few times. If you're a fan of the John Hughes era and the 80s I recommend this.

Good Halloween fun
14 October 2022
Wayans and Ferguson (Stranger Things) combine brilliantly in this film. The comedy timing is spot on. I found at times it was pretty laugh out loud funny and certain scenes I rewound and watched again and will definitely be watching it again soon. Dare I say it but it could become a classic Halloween regular every year like Hocus Pocus has. If you're a big movie buff, throughout the film you will have flashbacks of other movies where certain ideas have possibly come from but I feel it has been done well which is why I rated it a 10 because I came across it by accident and wasn't disappointed and if I'm honest I didn't want it to end.

Chris Pratt has ruined the franchise for me.
17 July 2022
Chris Pratt has really ruined the Jurassic Park franchise for me. I just can't watch his character anymore. I am so rooting for the dinosaurs to eat him in his scenes.

Athletes are phenomenal but...
9 July 2022
Started watching this by accident as my partner started to watch it. All the cheerleaders were hardworking phenomenal athletes and the hard work they put into the routines left me jaw dropped. My disappointment was the lack of compassion by Monica as soon as an injury occurred, she didn't care about the person injured she just cared about herself. My other negative was Gabi's parents, money, money ,money is all they were interested in and how much they can sponge off the name of there daughter and at times during phone calls or chats you could clearly see Gabi wasn't happy.

Series 1 good fun but then....
15 June 2022
Series 1 was good fun, a good bunch of characters and even though the viewer knows they're chasing shadows and make believe you hope they do find evidence or catch something but from series 2 it just turns into the Buck show and was then rooting for Bigfoot to appear just to take Buck away.

Disappointed.
12 November 2021
A line in the film sums this movie up "this is garbage, I don't know why they try to remake all the classics, they're never as good as the original".......this line was probably added after they watched the final edit.

This may appeal to young children who have never seen the Caulkin classics but as Home Alone and Home Alone 2 are firm holiday favourites around the world this movie will soon be forgotten.
