I gi tis elias (2021)
Another poorly-made Greek series
The only thing I can enjoy from this series is the setting, as I was actually raised in Mani. But the overall plot, characters and direction are not very good. There's so many unecessary scenes, dialogue and characters that are not even connected. It doesn't have a main story line - it's just things happening to ordinary people.
Most of the scenes don't even resemble Mani itself; the series shows us luxurious houses, huge oil factories, forests that don't even exist here in Mani - there's overall a very inaccurate representation of the place, despite the fact that some scenes were indeed shot in Mani. Most of the characters don't even talk or behave like they are from Mani. There's a middle-aged male character who likes practising shooting (with a tiny airgun that isn't even common in Mani) while two of his friends act like this is a big deal and that it's "dangerous", even though they are supposed to be from Mani. They are supposed to be used in seeing others using weapons. If the producers wanted a series that was very similar to Mani, could they at least try a bit? To make a long story short, the overall representation of the place is inaccurate.
In conclusion, don't waste your time with this uninspired, common series - there's dozens of them very similar. The fact that it's supposed to be a series shot in Mani doesn't change a lot. The dialogue is poorly-written, there's bad/mediocre acting, it's not realistic, it has unecessary scenes and characters, no specific plot and barely any resemblence to the actual Mani. If you are not from Mani (I bet most of you are not), you may not care about the setting, but just keep that in mind: this is NOT how Mani actually looks like.
I am not a big fan of television, but I am sure there's piles of other much more interesting programmes that you can watch instead of this one. For me, the only positive thing about this series is that one of my aunt's is an playing in it - I haven't seen her often in the series, but she's a pretty great actress as I've noticed.
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
A true horror masterpiece
For a slasher movie that was created in the 80s after countless Friday the 13th and Halloween copycats, Wes Craven's A Nightmare on Elm Street is incredible. Thanks to the genius concept that Craven came up with, the special effects, the suspense and the character of Freddy Krueger, the original Nightmare on Elm Street is one of the greatest horror movies of all time.
After over 38 years since the film's release, there's not much I have to say other than this is a genre-defining motion picture. You guys should check it out.
"THIS... Is God..."
- Freddy Krueger.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)
A very frustrating film.
This is yet another attempt to revive The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise after so many disappointing sequels. This sequel is one of them - a mess.
Here are the positives for me:
- Cool and brutal kills. The bus scene was pretty terrifying and it did shock me.
- Leatherface's design, cinematography and acting were pretty fine.
- The plot is not too different from the rest, but it is decent.
- The two sisters were fine and I felt some sympathy for them. It also had some slow suspense which did keep me at the edge of my seat.
The negatives:
- Bland characters apart from the two sisters.
- Leatherface is supposed to be in his 70s, and yet he is still super fast and strong. How?
- Lacks logic in certain scenes.
- Sally - a legacy character - couldn't have been more wasted in this movie. Pathetic treatment. I don't blame the actress here, I blame the script, which is a ripoff of Halloween 2018.
- The ending is just so disappointing and bad and it lacks logic to the point where I want to contact the directors and screenwriters and tell them how bad they did with this ending. I won't spoil it, but do expect a final act that lasts too long and goes nowhere.
This is just a sequel for those who aren't fan of the series and want a silly slasher film with blood and gore. It's decent, but there were so many missed opportunities.
Halloween (2018)
A solid sequel
I had a fun time with it. It wasn't very scary and lacked the atmosphere and suspense of the first one (I'm not a big fan of the original since it's overrated, but it's still a great film), but in comparison to some other sequels we've got, this is actually a worthy sequel.
Home Sweet Home Alone (2021)
That's... not how you make a home alone movie
The kid protagonist in this movie is atrocious, and not only that, but it doesn't show us that he's learned that his behavior is not good.
This film makes the so-called "burglars" sympathetic characters, while they make the kid an annoying little prick that you just want him to get hurt. I don't see any enjoyment watching two people (who didn't do anything bad after all) getting tortured by an eight year old - hell, it might even be cringe worthy for little kids. It's generally not a film that has received positive criticism from the majority of the viewers and critics, and I can see why. The 10 star reviews here are just some rare exceptions, or maybe people who don't know what they're saying - I personally found no enjoyment while watching this.
Just don't do watch it - the plot doesn't make any sense and the characters are either dull or idiotic. You may enjoy the traps in the third act (Maybe, although I doubt since the burglars are quite sympathetic here) along with some jokes here and there, but that's it. Just watch the first three movies - I find them a lot better than this cringe worthy sequel.
Home Alone (1990)
A classic for a reason
The only negative thing I have to say are the kid's weird faces and uncomfortable screams, these make me cringe a little. Other than that, this movie was gold in the nineties, and it's still gold now.
Some may say that it's too violent, and I'm gonna correct you and say: no. It's not violent, because the director intended for it to be unrealistic, kind of like a cartoon. It's meant to be like this. It's not strictly a Christmas movie, but it has some basic elements.
Overall, it's funny, it's unique and it's entertaining as hell. I remember watching this when I was around 8 or 7 years old, and I had a blast. Since then, I watch it almost every year - it has become a tradition at this point. Great film, go give it a try!
Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991)
Embarrassing
This movie is an insult to fans of the franchise, simply because of how lazy it is and how dumb it is. It's not scary, Freddy is a looney tunes cartoon, the kills aren't interesting, nothing works in this cheap piece of cinema. Plus, the ending is kinda silly. I won't spoil anything, though. Just go watch the first three, maybe the first four films. They're much better. Wouldn't recommend!
Oliver Twist (2005)
Pretty dang good
I had a blast watching this. It's one of those few movies that impact me psychologically slightly. Anyways, I would recommend this film to anyone who's a fan of Charles Dickens' work. The scenery and costumes are great, it feels very realistic, Fagin in this film is fantastic and the child actors did a good job. 9/10 for me.
It Chapter Two (2019)
It's a waste of time
The whole plot of this movie is a waste of time, all of that because of the ending. The losers get their artifacts (their childhood items or something) and then try to defeat pennywise using some ritual crap. Then it turns out that the ritual doesn't work. Why doesn't it work? We wasted nearly 2 hours watching these idiots collect useless stuff, only to realise that all that work was a waste of time. No emotions. Only disappointment.
Some of the humor is great, but that's it. This movie is not scary. Pennywise is bad. The opening is a waste of the plot. Too much cgi and cheap jumpscares that are laughable. And the worst part for me... The ending. The ending of this movie is insulting... Literally. Pennywise grows into a terrible cgi spider monster clown or some crap and then the losers defeat him by literally hurting his feelings. All that time we spent watching this 3 hour movie comes to the conclusion that the losers can just defeat pennywise by just insulting him.
Pennywise is a damn semi-god that can manipulate reality, and they defeat him by simply using their mouths? Insulting... Literally. For your own sake, don't watch this. It lacks scariness and trades it with comedy. It lacks plot. It lacks emotions and atmosphere. It lacks near everything that makes a good horror movie work, and it feels lazy. There are definitely a lot of horror movies that are much better than this lazy piece of cinema.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)
Unpopular opinion
I like this movie better than the original. The original is also a masterpiece, but the remake seems a bit more interesting and scary without being stupid. I'd definitely recommend it to those who enjoy remakes of original classic movies.
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
Definitely deserves to be called a classic
It's an interesting, both psychologically and physically violent horror movie. The plot is very simple, yet the concept is quite interesting for a movie in the 70s. Although I have a small problem with the cinematography - the movie overall looks a bit cheap, but I can excuse that. I'd definitely recommend it.
Scream 3 (2000)
The weakest of the franchise, still a great one
The third installment in the franchise has multiple mistakes, forgettable characters and choices that the fans didn't enjoy. Nonetheless, it's a fun, goofy slasher movie set in Hollywood (pretty meta indeed) with very little suspense and dull kills, yet it's very entertaining.
People consider this movie to be a bad movie, and I disagree. It's a decent slasher movie, but not a good movie that belongs to the scream franchise. There's too much comedy, but there are still some badass scenes here and there, especially with Sidney in the third act. I think that she's never been so badass and epic in a movie before without taking away from the killer's threat - they fight like two beasts, literally. Some of the characters are a bit forgetful, but I still like them.
The killer reveal is lame and his character isn't the best (I won't spoil anything for ya), but I like when they revealed he is also responsible for the events of the first movie. It could take away from Billy's and Stu's legacy, but I don't mind. I don't know if the "magical" voice changer is an issue. It's quite unrealistic, yet it's a cool addition and gives the killer a new ability, making him more fearful in some ways.
Overall, the movie definitely has some issues, but it's a pretty fun watch if you want to see it yourself or with your friends and family and crack some laughs. It's bad for a scream movie, yet I'd recommend it.
9/10.
Scream (1996)
Yet another masterpiece by Wes Craven
Great characters, suspense, gore, whodunit aspect and final girl. There are a lot of great things in this movie but I don't need to say anything else, just watch this masterpiece and you'll understand. It's my personal favourite, and definitely worth watching.
10/10 for me, a must-see for any slasher/horror movie fan.
Seed of Chucky (2004)
Truly awful, weird and not worth watching
When I got to the scene where chucky was literally... you know, masturbating, I began to feel a wave of disappointment washing over me.
To begin with, this movie has annoying characters, some forgetful, some of them are so bad that you can't forget. The acting is... fine, I guess? It's not too bad. I didn't like the dialogue and the cinematography though. Chucky isn't scary in this one, but there are some decent kills and jokes here and there.
The concept is extremely messed up and weird as hell, and the ending was also weird and didn't make much sense. It has some good moments here and there, but most of the movie is just a garbage meta slasher comedy horror film, filled with some dark humor, decent jokes and cool kills. It lacks suspense, seriousness, logic and characters, making the movie a bit hard to watch.
Different concept, not too boring, but to me, this movie is nearly unwatchable. And just think, there's a scene that shows chucky, a killer doll, masturbating. What in the world was Don Mancini thinking while making this? No, do yourself a favor and skip this movie.
