Elize Matsunaga: Era uma Vez um Crime (2021)
Woman of the night turned billionaire kills husband
This show could have been 2 episodes tops.
Pretty woman (like the movie) turns murderous. I'm currently watching the 3rd episode and realized there's another hour of this.
She's cold blooded and has a smirk when talking about how she enjoys hunting. She even speaks to how good veal tastes with herb sauce.
She's a psychopath and murdered the father of her children. She left them without either parent. I don't believe she murdered him because he was a jerk or because he cheated on her. She was a corner lady and got greedy. She didn't want to be with him and got rid of him.
Honestly, don't waste your time with this series. It's far too long and repetitive. I can't reveal the ending since I haven't watched it. I have to know what happens, so I'll suffer through the last hour and chalk it up to time wasted.
The I-Land (2019)
Not great, but not as bad as the reviews
I actually liked this show. It's hard to fathom all of the 1 star reviews. People clearly haven't seen terrible movies or shows when giving this kind of rating. It keeps being compared to Lost in others' negative reviews, but other than it taking place on a deserted island, it's not similar at all. If that were the case you could say Lost was a ripoff of Gillian's Island. The acting was sub par , but I enjoyed the story line.
I wish the show had a better ending and better acting. It would be cool if good actors and a better director remade this as a movie!
If you're bored and want to watch something, this will do! I don't have any regrets.
One Day (2024)
Emotional and powerful series
Where do I start?!
I went into this not knowing I would feel like my entire family was massacred after watching.
This movie is about a college friendship with its ups and downs, and soulmates who eventually find their way back to each other.
The story was beautiful, the acting was superb, and the emotions were real. I think anyone who watches this will identify themselves at some or many points of the movie.
Two unlikely people find themselves instantly drawn to each other and care about their friendship too much to take a chance. They find themselves ready for the other at the wrong time. Once they do take that leap, their love blossoms and they are looking forward to their bright future. The show could have ended there and I would be over the moon for their success and happiness, but it takes a tragic turn. You watch one spiral after and then find their way back to a determined person, looking to the future again.
This ripped my heart out and pounded it with a meat tenderizer, but the story and the way it directed was so incredibly beautiful and raw, that I'm not even mad.
I couldn't recommend this series more and appreciate that the episodes are roughly a half hour. It took us on a 2 evening emotional rollercoaster, but it's not something I'll soon forget.
My recommendation is that went you get towards the last 3 or so episodes, prepare to cry. The top half of my shirt was wet from wiping tears.
Past Lives (2023)
I'm no movie critic, but this movie hurt
Watching this movie really hurt. It's a very simple story of the way life works out for most of us. We have different lives before the person we end up with. Some of those people you meet when you're a child and others when you're an adult. Most people have met someone in their life that they wonder "what if?" and it can be a nagging question for the remainder of their life.
The actors in this movie were incredible. You could feel the pain in each of them. It's not a happy nor a sad ending, but just the way life works out. Of course, you want them to get together the entire movie, but then you feel bad for the husband. Each of the characters share a common pain. As a person watching it, it made me cry a lot.
I don't understand the negative reviews. I am not a movie critic and I miss a lot of symbolism in movies, but this one felt so real and struck a cord. I think it's worth the time. I think it should be watched alone, or at least not with a significant other, just in case they ask you who your "what if" is.
Influencer (2022)
Not a fan of influencers, but the movie was pretty good!
I usually don't like influencers and think the world has gone crazy with these people, but I found myself rooting for the influencers. I thought the movie was really good, from start to finish. The acting was good, the storyline was good, the scenery was beautiful, and the characters were interesting enough.
I wish we would have known more about the villain's background, but we can't have everything, I suppose.
I was over all pretty pleased with this movie and hesitant to watch it because of the title, but I'm certainly glad I did.
Do yourself a favor and give this a watch. I don't think it will disappoint.
Private Property (2022)
Hideous
This is terribly written and it's not believable. The home they used for a Hollywood producer's home is laughable. The car Benson's character is also laughable. Don't get me started on the junk furniture and wallpaper throughout the house. I would expect a more modern and sleek home to believe these characters. The sidekick criminal is supposed to be dumb and slow, maybe? This was just horribly executed. The script is garbage. The music is garbage. Is it supposed to have a 1980s feel to it? I really feel bad for Benson to have taken this role. I hope it was a favor to someone because it certainly didn't do her career any favors.
If I could rate negative stars, I just might do it. This is worse than any lifetime movie I have seen (which actually tend to be pretty decent these days). Don't waste your time, I repeat: DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!! I may stick it out for the remaining 18 minutes, if I can afford to have my eyes and ears repaired and my brain cells restored.
Birdemic: Shock and Terror (2010)
Truly impressive how terrible it is
I don't doubt there are many films as terrible as this movie, but the fact that it is streaming on paid apps is astounding. Everything is horrifically done. The acting, the scene transition, the dialog itself, the sound quality, the picture quality. The story line itself is ridiculous.
I forget how I met Alan, but it must have been through mutual friends. He told me about this movie and I'm getting around to watching it 10 years later just because the reviews were so awful.
Apparently this is a cult classic and I can see why. It's hard to beat. I may have to watch the others that came after to see if they fixed ANY of the EVERYTHING wrong with this one.
I say it's definitely worth the watch just because you'll be able to say you've seen the worst movie. It's so bad that you can't look away. It's entertaining because of everything stated above.
Monster in My Family (2015)
Blaming family members
I think this show is kind of cruel. I'm sure there is a ton of guilt and shame when your family member commits a heinous crime (or crimes). The fact that they take a family member of- let's just say a serial killer, who had no knowledge of the other persons crime, and put them in a room for the victim or victim's family member for them to confront is cruel. Both sides are suffering. One side has guilt and shame and the other is looking for someone to blame. I don't see a point to this show and I hate that I can't stop watching it. I'm a sucker for true crime. I feel bad for the children of these awful monsters and it seems unfair to have them meet people who are going to make them feel worse.
Take Care of Maya (2023)
I cried the whole time
This documentary made me so angry. I cried the whole time. Hospitals are evil and we all saw it during C0vid. The abuse of power for money sickens me, and like Maya, I don't trust them. There are so many people who work in hospitals who see through the BS and don't stand up against them. The hospitals care about one thing, and it's not their patients. This documentary, unfortunately, wasn't eye-opening, just heartbreaking and infuriating.
I recently saw a 4 part series about my previous employer, Alta California Regional Center, and it was horrifying. Another instance that made me furious and cry. In that series, you have parents with similar stories- being accused of abuse. Their children with developmental disabilities are taken from them and the custody is given to DDS, a state department where they are receiving about $30k per month per person under their conservatorship. The money is then funneled back into the state of CA. The social workers are 99% wonderful and I have so much love for them.
The system is so crooked and broken. No matter how much exposure there is, these monsters get away with it time and time again.
Prayers and love to the families who have been wronged by these mega money makers at their expense. If you work in a place like these and see something fishy happening, it's your duty to speak up. People's lives are literally at risk. Families are being destroyed.
The Flipping El Moussas (2023)
Gross
Heather is getting dumber and dumber as the years pass. I liked her the first season of selling sunset because she seemed sweet and genuine, but she's unbearable now. Her ditziness is nauseating and her fake/forced laugh is gross. Maybe the lack of meat is destroying her brain?
I actually liked the flip or flop pre Heather, but this is awful. I'll finish this first episode because I want to see the outcome of that funky home. Tarek has dropped down real low and I hope he is embarrassed. He needs to kick her off the shoe and do this without his cringy wife.
Don't waste your time watching this!
Zodiac Island (2022)
Beautiful
This show made me laugh and cry. I loved every second of it! The folks on the show were all so genuine, even those who didn't make it. I really felt invested and committed to each and every relationship. I never took astrology seriously before, but it made a believe out of me! I found this show to be so thoughtful and tasteful, and it's really unlike any other show out there. These 4 couples are truly soulmates and learned so much about each other, so I really hope they make it in the long run. I still need to see who all is still together- so don't worry, no spoilers. The astrologists also were really insightful and provided tools that can help the viewers lives. We all can take something away from this show to make us more understanding and ultimately better people.
Christmas in the Rockies (2020)
Cast ages make no sense
Main chick born in 85
Dad born in 87
Boyfriend dude born in 84
Why???? Why isn't the dad in his 60s?!
I'm not paying a bit of attention to the story at all, so can't really say if it's good or not, but the age thing really threw me through a loop. It's yet another Christmas moving with the same music as the rest.
I have to come up with filler words because the required characters are 600 and I don't understand why. I see many other reviews much shorter than this and now you're stuck reading this blabber.
Jingle bells, jingle bells 63 to go.
Santa, reindeer, snow balls, elfs, Christmas tree.
The Northman (2022)
BORING AND WEIRD
2.25 hours wasted on this. I had really high hopes for this movie based on the trailer and cast. It started out decent, but kept getting weirder and weirder. Without spoiling the ending, let's just say it was just as disappointing as the conclusion of Game of Thrones, except it was never great. The movie had so much potential and a decent storyline, but it was too out there and artsy. I'm not sure how the ratings are so high when most of the reviews I'm seeing are low ratings. Save yourself those hours and do literally do anything else with that time. Wish I would have!
Alexander Skarsgard is hot though.
Nine Perfect Strangers (2021)
The show exceeded my expectations
I had read this book at least a year before the show came out, so my brain was a little foggy when I started watching the show. I loved the book and didn't think that it could be topped. I absolutely love this series ans thought it was perfect and so beautifully executed from start to finish. There were some differences in the book than in the show, but they only enhanced the show. I cried my way through the series and decided to write my very first review on anything on IMDB. Watch this show!
