Glitch Techs (2020)
10/10
A great addition to Nickelodeon & Netflix
14 July 2021
This show is a gem and no mistake. Fast paced, beautifully animated with witty dialogue. Characters are easy to like and believable, each with their own flaws, qualities and personalities- watching Miko's hyper reactions is like a shout out to manga iconography, and the many references to video games never fails to amuse. The whole thing is just so fun to watch.

About the only thing that could be criticised would be the suggestion of an overall story arc that is yet to take place. Mysterious elements have been introduced along with outside characters that have expanded the plot, but it has only set the stage- we're still yet to see where the plot will go.

Overall an excellent show. I hope we'll see more of it.

Battle for Terra (I) (2007)
7/10
Original and pleasing to the eye
5 November 2009
I've just finished watching this movie and I must say, I found it very enjoyable.

The story has an interesting 'twist' from the very start, with the human race at first depicted as callous and ruthless alien invaders, before revealing there point of view as being desperate to find a new home for there dying race. From this point, it feels easy to understand the characters feelings as they are forced to decide between saving their people from destruction or taking the moral high ground.

It's an animation film, but that shouldn't make you think it's main focus is towards children. The whole thing is done so that the end result is a movie that's serious, and in some places, a little moving.

The animation itself is impressive to see. The floating motion of the creatures of Terra and the battle sequences are just beautiful.

Bad things about this film- the whole thing should be longer and more fleshed out, with a lot more focus on the development of the characters, in particular their relationships with other characters. In that sense, I think quite a bit was missed out from this movie that could have gone a long way for the story line.

Dragon (II) (2006)

A load of rubbish

There can be no dispute, this is an amazingly bad film. First off, it's badly written. I honestly don't think I have ever read, watched or heard a story more uninteresting than the story this film is based on. What few 'twists' there are- equally boring and confusing in places. The acting, plain bad. I understand that pretending to fight a monster that's going to be added in with special effects later may be a bit difficult, but surely they should look like there fighting in the same battle, rather than waving there weapons around seemingly at random. The choreography was terrible. And from start to finish, the whole film was simply a bunch of people hanging about, talking incessantly and occasionally getting into a fight. Remind you of Big Brother?

Merlin (1998)

Not very impressed

A good job of explaining the legend of King Arthur. However, a bad script and bad acting really bring this programme down badly. I got the impression that those doing the acting really weren't putting in the effort that they could have. The whole thing generally made me feel that the writer had made a single draft and not checked it over to clean it up. The sfx is more of an annoying distraction, though the scenery and costumes are all very good, but still wasn't enough to distract from what is quite honestly a pretty bad programme.

On the other hand, Sam Neill does a good job acting as Merlin; the main reason I managed to watch till the end.
