Puppies Everywhere (2024)
Short on Puppies
I was under the false impression that this movie would have a lot more puppies, puppy products, and a love story somewhere there in. Instead, there was a disappointing focus on the "business" of selling puppies (which is distasteful in the way it was portrayed), a company selling only a single dog treat, and a David vs Goliath business feud.
The love story here was lackluster and left me questioning which love interest would have been better for him in the end after all. I am not sure if it was a lack of chemistry or the way their relationship was portrayed within the plot but it missed the mark. Overall the movie was watchable but fell a bit flat.
Wonka (2023)
Magical!
This was a magically done prequel to the original. The acting was superb and Timothée Chalamet truly shines in his performance as the unforgettable Willy Wonka.
Musicals are not typically my first preference but the songs really work here and add to the overall mood and charm of the story. This was a pleasant surprise for me after my initial apprehension.
For true Wonka fans, there are endless Easter eggs scattered throughout the film. It was a fun touch and nice way of honoring Roald Dahl. It's worth watching more than once to see how many you can spot.
This is a visual masterpiece that is a wonderful way to lift the spirits of people of all ages.
Superchef Grudge Match (2023)
A Bit Forced
These grudges are a bit forced at times and many come across as faked for the sake of television. Some of the other grudges are portrayed as so intensely bitter that it is distasteful to watch. It is quite possible that the wrestling match format with the over the top announcer is just not right for this type of show. The whole thing feels campy and fake.
On a more positive note, some of the chefs are talented and it is fun to see which ingredients they choose to bring to the table. Overall this show misses the mark for me but is fine as a filler. I was surprised that it was renewed for a second season.
The Simpsons: Two Dozen and One Greyhounds (1995)
Fun episode
This was a memorable episode based on an obvious spoof of One Hundred and One Dalmatians coupled with the humor and charm of The Simpsons. Mr Burns is invariably the perfect villain even if this was written before he was officially part of the Disney universe. I've watched this one over and over again and it never seems to get old. It is one of my favorites.
The Easter eggs scattered throughout were a lot of fun as well. I am relatively certain they have snuck some in there that likely slipped past me so it's worth keeping an eye out for them. We might need more greyhound puppy follow ups in future episodes.
