"Wahat did you just say, man? A flick, with BOTH Joe Penny and Charley Bronson starring in it?" This was my reaction when a friend one day noticed this picture in our local videostore. A gift from above, indeedy! This story's got no plot what so ever, but the characters strikes me as pure brilliance- thank you, Sheldon, for bringing us such an actionpacked story in such a delicate wrapping! It is pure delight to watch Pennys 'iwanttobeBruceWillis' facts and questionable gesticulations, especially in the touching scene were he shares his mistakes in the force with the viewers. And his family of cops, of course... Watching Bronson, in what might be one of his last movies, makes me shiver with respect and nostalgia. This man, this symbol of action and mistaken manhood, has been working hard since the 50's, and that's not hard to tell. the man is tired, no doubt about it. But a big actor? Indeed!

The first thought that stroke my mind after watching this flick, was the fact that it seemed ahead of its time, bearing in mind that it was released in 1983. The humor, both brutal and intelligent, gives from time to time the impression that this could have been made today, and still be reflecting the western individuals desire to be in focus; to be a celebrity at any cost. It is hard to verify, but it almost seems like Scorsese is a bit sarcastic towards stand-up as an entertainment form, perhaps because of the fact that it is very common. Today especially. The visual impact of this movie is also astonishing, and Scorsese manages to bring it to an artistic level. The music is also very good, and amplifies the atmosphere and DeNiros self-esteem and growing dimentia. By the way, DeNiros effort in this motion picture is unique. This manuscript justifies his resources as one of Americas leading actors. Watch it!
