Black Adam (2022)
Originality : Error 404 - resource lacking
What a let down this movie was. Yes, it's functionnal. But it's not good. Why? Because every single little part has already been seen in the last 10-15 years... In fact, it's a movie for amnesiacs....
It's basically a complete rip-off of countless recent superhero movies. It's so painfully obvious, over and over again... it feels like a collection of stolen scenes all rehashed into a new movie that lacks any originality, any personality... I mean, the jet lifting off the opening sport yard outside the mansion. COME ON. Total X-men plagiarism. And it's like that. All. The. Way.
I am a big fan of Dwayne Johnson, he is generally so lovable, but even him cannot save this movie, and I'm sad to say that I found him even bad in the role, even though it's most certainly not his fault, but the role which is so badly written!
Also, he looks more CGI than human, like he was being (...badly) photoshopped at every second.
The whole bunch of completely unknown "superheroes" dropping out of nowhere felt so wrong, their proper introduction utterly failed (rip-off of Dr Strange in the Multiverse, and the kleenex team of "superheroes" facing Wanda just to die ridiculously? At least those were a decent prop...)
Honestly it's the type of movie that makes you think we should really stop paying the slightest attention or giving a single cent to those studios, until they learn to respect their audience, and their staff - I cant believe a director or writer with any notion of self-respect would be content with this... crap... Except maybe Taika Cohen-Waititi...
Speaking of which.... After Thor : love and thunder (but Black Adam was not *that* bad...), this was the second really lame superhero movie I've watched this year. I strongly question the future of the genre, the producers seem to be ready to hit rock bottom in their fight for easy and steady profits...
I havent seen Black Panther 2 yet, but honestly, such pieces of crap are really poor incentives, making us viewers fear the worst...
The Simpsons: Habeas Tortoise (2022)
A very delicate take on a very sensitive subject.
I dont comment very regularly, and it's too often when I profoundly dislike a movie or show episode. But the treatment that the Simpsons gave to a very sensitive subject in this S34Ep1 felt very appropriate to me, without any heavy moralistic and judgemental stance taken but a more "wholesome" and restrained one, maybe - and really worth commenting on.
There is a fine and intelligent exploration of what is too commonly and dismissively called "complotism" these days, but also a great character exploration and development for Homer. And Bart and Lisa, heck, even Marge! Are surprisingly "philosophical" and poundered on this one.
The episode might not be packed with humor but it's still present, and strikes hard when it does (the very last joke omg!). Overall, I'm surprised by the mastery, soundness and maturity. Very well done. I can only hope that there is room for much more goofiness in other episodes of the season though ;-)
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
By very far the worst MCU movie so far.
This movie was just... ridiculous by so many aspects. There are a few, very few great moments, but which are absolutely not enough to save the film from its director, his color frenzy, and all the ridiculous fluff surrounding the story, that generally make the movie fun, enjoyable, more interesting, but in this case seem like repeated and clear attempts to make the audience cringe.
The main story in itself had so.freaking.much potential, and they completely wasted it, got completely lost in derision. Seemed like a sarcastic parody of itself... Lame. This one I'm clearly not going to watch again any time soon, if ever...
I feel like it needs a 1* just to try and counterbalance the throng of fake votes made on this site to artifically increase the score of that crap.
Kaamelott - Premier volet (2021)
Great entertainment for true connoiseurs
I've had a wonderful time letting Astier take me on a big screen experience of his Kaamelott universe and his deeper exploration of the character of Arthur.
It delivered on practically everything in my humble opinion, but we are indeed very far from the spirit of the first seasons of the series, and it's understandable why so many people dont really get it. It's way outside the comfort zone and lots of people most certainly had unrealistic and irrelevant expectations... But it left me truly delighted and it's in fact a great adaptation to the theater format.
The Batman (2022)
On the verge of good, but ultimately utterly ridiculous.
I could stand the movie despite Pattinson cast as The Batman (his jaw must still hurt from all that artificial tension he had to put in), until the "new" Batman could simply handle getting shot at close range by sniper rifles without even caring, just with his suit. Pathetic, pitiful, ridiculous. The suspension of disbelief required is simply retarded. Why not have tanks shoot at him and he would stop the shell with bare hands, next time?
All in all, it got close to be an excellent film but it seriously lacks balance, integrity, a touch of realism.
Oh, and things like "I must do things MY way" before proceeding to vertically run down along the building without any real reason... How useless and pointless just for a brief "cool shot".
It was honestly painful to make it to the end of the movie, and I watched it in 2-3 sessions, which I never do, because it was somehow boring and cringe.
Contrarily to many critics, I really enjoyed Dano as the Riddler, though.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Emotionnaly confusing... ?
The movie was honestly very entertaining in vast majority. Good action scenes, impeccable CGI, a bunch of attaching characters, an interesting mutliverse story...
I've read someone write that movies were made to make you "feel" things, and this one did, indeed. But maybe a little too much, ultimately! Or not with a proper conclusion, or at least not satisfying to me...
But at the same time, are movies supposed to give the audience what it wants? No, by all means no!
To go into specifics, Aunt May's death came as a freaking surpise, but it served the movie well, I guess. At least, it's a powerful engine in the original Spider-Man story, so why not... Point is, it could be seen as very lazy writing. They "just" took the previous older Spider-Man movies and rehashed 3 arcs into one... Honestly, it was still very well done. There are brillant humoristic moments, I really cracked a few times. The casting is super neat. Well, it wasnt hard, when bringing back all the main characters from the previous movies, with the good and attaching actors who played them.
But to be completely fair... I boo'ed the ending. Multiple times... Even if I was home alone!! I found it so infuriating, sad, despairing even!!! It felt like such a let-down.
Adding 3 post-ending/credit sequences didnt change that much. It felt also really weird that there was kind of a complete Dr Strange trailer at the very end, instead of a more classic short teaser. I'l definitely watch it, though :)
Red Notice (2021)
An extremely well-paced movie
The overall rythm of the movie is probably one its strongest points. Not much boring moments, the action and scenes are very well connected and the movie is constantly moving forwards.
The trio of actors is probably second in line : Reynolds and Johnson, particularly, work very well together in my opinion. Gadot, well, you like or not - very easy on the eye, sorry for that, but her role wasnt extremely convincing. I felt like she has a bit too much of super-hero-ish set of skills and strenght, and she reminded me a bit too much of "Superwoman"...
Indeed, lots of jokes are cheesy, dad jokes, but it's overall well-spirited and, well, it fits like a glove for Ryan and Dwayne and makes them quite lovable as usual. Still got a few very good laughs out of me.
I've honestly enjoyed the movie, and I'm generally a bit of a grouch to say the least. Wont become a classic but certainly worth seeing for a decent moment of entertainment.
The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror XXXII (2021)
Could they just ease out on the unpleasant singing?
This show seems to be getting really nastily affected by Disney.
I must confess that I get quite excited when I realize I'm about to watch the yearly THoH - it's such a treat, generally - but this one left me quite unsatisfied overall, despite the fact that it didnt really lack anything. Or I just cant put my finger on it.
A little thing that really annoyed me is that just 2 episodes following the dreadful "Star of the backstage" (which should be renamed "Worst. Episode. Ever" - I'm never watching this one again, it will be the only one ever...), this THoH opened with another piece of poorly written disney-style music and singing, which was very cringy and let me fear the worst for the rest of the episode...
It got back on tracks hopefully, but still failed to deliver, somehow. It feels quite insipid in fact, outside of the "trees" part...
The Simpsons: The Star of the Backstage (2021)
Worst. Episode. Ever.
This is the VERY first and only episode of the Simpsons that I have EVER fast-forwarded in 3 decades, because it was so incredibly boring, slow, poorly-spirited. I am a huge fan but this was an utter disappointment.
The idea to replace Marge's voice was just plain atrocious and makes the whole episode sound completely fake. Just because musicals were something famous at some point in history doesnt mean every show on Earth should do one. I dont like them in general, not gonna lie - but the South Park one, for example, was so much more bearable because it didnt betray the show...
The Simpsons had many great episodes with lots of music and singing, but this was a complete disaster.
