Jesus Christ Superstar (1973)
In Comparison
I watched 2 movies today- JCS and Godspell. I'm not going to compare them, if you want that, read my comment on Godspell.
Anyway, I think this is a spectacular show and I may hold Ted in higher esteem than most, but it is truly a great performance. The actors show the true emotion in the story of their character, and the songs are great. My favorites are Hosanna, Could We Start Again, Look at all my Trials and Tribulations, and Jesus Christ Superstar.
I do, however, think that this movie (and Godspell) should have a more clear resurrection(more than the faint silhouette of Jesus walking in front of the cross in the last shot), and I hope to write scenes for it in both someday.
But I'm no ALW.
Godspell: A Musical Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew (1973)
Love the movie, disagree with some comments---
-OH, I love this movie so much! I just got done watching it, but I was highly disappointed to get on this site, and discover that people are comparing it to Jesus Christ Superstar. I actually saw JCS first, and comparing them is like Disney and Stephen King. They are totally different animals.
-Godspell shows the more peaceful side of the last 3 years of Jesus's life, because it is based almost totally on his parables. It is uplifting and shows the love of Jesus, and how truly inspiring his teachings are.
-However, JCS shows the pain and anguish of Jesus, and portrays the more human side. It is less of the teaching, and more of the sacrifice of God.
-I just wish they would show the resurrection, and when I am older and can direct the musicals, i hope to write a resurrection scene for both.
-I know the lyrics to every song in both of them.
-Both movies deserve a 10 out of 10.
