Landspeed: CKY (1999)
So this is where it all began. . .
Just got this from Netflix, and I was pleasantly surprised. First of all, THIS IS NOT JACKASS. Some of the random pranksters from Jackass make an appearance, but this is Brandon and Bam's movie, nothing more or less. Some of the skits are excellent, some fall flat, but all of the skateboarding is awesome. This movie will definitely make you laugh, especially if you spent your high school days wreaking havoc on your crappy town because there was nothing better to do. Watching this also made me wonder what Mr. DiCamillo is up to these days, he seems to have a lot of talent resting inside that demented head of his. Anyway, this is not for everyone, but if you are a fan of Bam it is a must see.
Suckers (1999)
Hey, it was better than anything Freddie Prinze Jr. has done
This is a great find if you enjoyed "Glengarry Glennross" or "Clerks." The plot centers around the shady dealings that occur at a typical car dealership, and one of my buddies who sells cars told me that a lot of it isn't very far from the truth. The plot gets a little hackneyed at some points (especially the end), but the movie is worth watching for Daniel Benzali's performance alone. Actually, all of the actors do a really good job, but Benzali, Eli Danker, and Louis Mandylor really shine and bring life to their characters. Great movie to watch with friends and a couple of beers. Another one of those rare movies that should have gotten better publicity, because it is certainly a lot more compelling than another Freddie Prinze / Matthew Lillard team up. Hollywood producers should invest more time on material like this and less on the same old recycled feces.
Thursday (1998)
Excellent film, wish I could find the DVD
Yeah, I know, you've never heard of this movie before. Most people I talk to think it is the prequel to Ice Cube's "Friday", and it is almost impossible to find anywhere. If you do happen to stumble on a copy, hang on to it, or email me and I will buy it from you. Skip Woods narrative style is extremely similar to Tarantino's, but don't let that quell your interest, this an excellent albiet underatted film. The dialogue is excellent, the actors work wonderfully together, and the film is paced extremely well. Certainly a lot better than 80% of the crap that gets released every year.
Ski School (1991)
An underrated cult classic
I discovered this movie in middle school, and since then it has become an omni-present staple at most guys night out functions. My friends and myself often refer to Ski School as "The Greatest B-Movie of all Time!" The girls are hot, the jokes are both funny and consistent, and the plot is so outrageous it makes you want to grab a keg and head to Whistler that second. It is also one of the most quoted movies in my group of friends, and there are to just to many quotes to list and still do the movie justice. All a member of Section 8 could ask for this Christmas is a DVD release of the film, because I'm sure in a few years my VHS will be worn out. Don't be fooled by the box, grab a couple cases of Labatt's, a few of your best friends, and watch one of ther most underrated movies of all time.
