One Piece (2023)
An Objective Review
I know the anime but never watched it. I did watch other anime adaptations and they're almost all bad. So I went to check this show with no high expectations at all.
It really surprised me. This show has heart, care and an outstanding production value. From the different characters to multiple scenarios, buildings, costumes and make-up.
I can only imagine how hard it is to balance an anime adaptation to live action without losing its anime essence for their fans and without making it annoying, childish and sometimes nonsense for the common audience. But they nailed it. It is very, very good.
I had an insane good time watching it. Good fights, likeable characters with awesome chemistry between them, creative story, fun laughs and I must admit, emotional tears.
I normally only comment when a show really pisses me off and I have to vent it somewhere. But with this show I felt the need to post a positive review because it really is an unique good anime adaptation and it really deserves it.
Shadow and Bone (2021)
S1 good s2 bad
Let me start by saying that I'm a big fan of fantasy shows and I always tend to watch them with good eyes. So it was with season one. Solid, engaging and well produced.
Season two was just a mess. I don't know why is so hard for fantasy shows to keep up the good quality from early seasons. Maybe a schedule thing? Like they need to release as fast as possible, I don't know.
I'll start with the positives since is a shorter list. Good acting from most of the cast, good production (visual effects, figurine, different scenarios) and thats pretty much about it.
Now with the negatives:
1 - No chemestry between the protagonists: Alina and Mal gotta be the worst love couple ever. Besides not having a single molecule of chemestry between the actors, the writting around them was so cheesy with poor lines, a back and forth decision making and a no sense conclusion. Like finally they can be together but Mal suddenly has no motives to stay anymore? What in the actual fudge? Halfway to season 2 I was skiping their scenes like crazy. So boring and annoying.
2 - The story was all over the place: I'm almost 100% sure that season 2 was written by an 11 years old. No consistency, useless scenes with no credible events, at least in how they were directed. Here are some of my nitpicks: A) The prison arc with Mathias dragged for way too long. Besides, why is suddenly the Irish Villian became the boss of the prison being actually a prosioner himself? So silly. B) The Darkling starts the season weakened, suffering, and stays like the same the whole time, like that made no difference at all. C) The challenge involving the stag in season 1 was very cool and the one with the serpent sea ended in a 10min useless bad made scene. D) The magic system is not very well explained and too imbalanced. That is a full plate for writters to just come up with childish scenes that instead of hyping the audience up just annoys them. E) I'll just stop or else we're going to be here for a while.
3 - Too many arcs going: this season had so much going on in different places that they had to rush it towards the end, making all travels almost instantaneous.
4 - Poor fight coreography: thats it.
Well, I don't think I'm coming back for next season. Only if they release a Crow spin off.
El bar (2017)
Please, dont waste your time
Just watched The Bar and I really regret it. I dont want to sound like a movie hater but it really pisses me off how a group of professionals can actually make such a terrible film.
Over the top acting, bad editing, problems with continuitity, hundreds of plot holes, characters with absolutely no consistency chaging their personalities completely, dumb decision making all the time, unreal scenes and events, terrible ending and so much more.
The film test your intelligence with stupitity for the whole 1h and 50min. If it was supposed to be a comedy it failed. If it was supposed to be a thriller/suspense it failed. If it was supposed to be a mix of both it failed as well. The piece only succeeds in making you feel like never watching it again.
Locke & Key (2020)
I really tried.
The first season is really good. A show with enough mystery that keeps you engaged and excited.
The second season looked like was written by different people from the first one. It is really bad. The dialogues are just horrific, the main characters are annoyinly stupid with unreal decision making, some scenes are just too silly and would never happen, the action scenes are not well filmed, the villain is supposed to be a very experienced being in an teenagers body but still plans, acts and talks like a teenager, the plot is not interesting and they didnt do a good job "balancing" magic within the series (wtf was that Demon key).
I really tried to like season two because I enjoyed the first one a lot, but after this painful experience im not returning for a third season, in case it happens.
