Deranged (1974)
8/10
One of the creepiest films ever
27 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I've seen "Deranged" recently and it 's one of the most disturbing film ever done; It' nigh as macabre as TCM but it is not quite well as the same level , just one step under ; TCM relies on more on the viewer imagination although we really see these horrible things Gein has done;

The most shocking scene in the cut version is when Ez Cobb digs his mother out and embrace her already messed up and all cheesy body in his arms , i thought i was going to puke all over the place; but it's nearly nothing compared to the famous cut scene (which was on the DVD in bonus ) when he scalps a severed head with a saw and removes the jelly-like matter (the post-mortem collapsing brain) inside with a spoon !! This time i REALLY got to run to the John and spew my dinner out!

The creepiest scene is when a wondering victim to be arrives in the living room of Ez's home and find this collection of rotten corpses; yeah this is strange but the strangest is when Ez begin to play the organ with a corpse's top skull on his head ! We can really feel the insanity , the madness , the frustrations and the nastiness of the character , admirably played by Roberts Blossom , whose face and eyes are absolutely frightening in the film , the least we can say is that he physically fits well the character, but not only , because he has added this verbal and muscular tics ; for example the one he does the most is with his lower lip and this is very eerie. I think this is one of his most impressive performance and it's a shame producers underestimated him during his career (and now) cause the guy has talent.

My overall rating is 8 cause this is a unjustified forgotten little gem of the macabre and bizarre and (often subtle) black humor and gives one of the finest performances by an actor in the genre "psycho- horror" ;

SPOILER: don't watch it if you have a gastric indisposition of whatever sort , unless you have a big empty bucket nearby!

Killing Car (1993)
4/10
Low Budget repetitive little flick
27 August 2006
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a moderate fan of Rollin's Movies in general ;the only exception is "La rose de fer" which i think is a very poetic and atmospheric movie and also a very underrated one. I saw "The killing car" yesterday and i've got to say it's:

1)Boring (in a non intelligent way)

2)Repetitive as hell

3)Very badly acted exception for the main actress (Which has a praticaly mute role... so we can't tell for sure if she can act or not) The entire cast looks like they have been hired from the porno industry

4)Mediocrely written, which is the main cause of points 1 and 2

5)Inferiorly directed ,notably in "action" scenes where the guns are dubbed with small size firecrackers

BUT this movie possess some kind of "entertaining energy" at times due to its somewhat "carnivorous" but most of the time efficiently fast editing ; it sometimes has a nice photography, the film is settled in Paris most of the running time but has certain scenes in NY ' so when the story become too tedious,we can relax our eyes on these rare but beautiful shots of these two cities.

Overall rating : 4/10 mostly for the photo and for this somewhat naive but entertaining (not all the time regrettably) energy feeling in it.

Interesting story
20 December 2001
It's so unusual to see Edward G Robinson playing ambivalent characters that this movie should be seen by every fan of the actor .it's moreover the opportunity to see Bogart and Robinson joined in the same film,one more time , about the first we are not very surprised by his composition of cynical gangster certainly because despite his evident sense of humor in the movie,he has done very better performances in the "gangster kind" role , the apotheosis is "high sierra" of Walsh ; whatever it's not an usual gangster film to see especially for "big g".

good film

incredibly strange complicated but fascinating story also a great performance of actors in particular the principal actor as a playboy constrained to live with a mask on his face at the beginning ;something intriguing about this movie : the non stop praise of suicide ,seen through the film as a liberation...

Bad Sister (1931)
5/10
not bad
18 December 2001
Not bad at all ,but the main interest of the movie is to see Davis in her first ,and bogart in one of his firsts the story and the way it's developed is very old fashion and the characters are very simplified. the cinematic aspect is not new and the story demoded and to say the truth frankly boring
