One side is about racial stereotypes and the other side is about a homecoming long over due for the central character. It's a movie more about family than anything else. Don't overhype it. Don't expect laughs out loud. It's a nice story about a struggling professional who jokingly writes a story mocking a successful book full of black stereotypes. I liked it. I felt the love and pain of main character Stagg. There were sweet moments in the homecoming and beautiful cinematography at the coast. Felt like I wanted hang with his family. Now the end wasn't exactly how I wanted it to go and it's possible the main character didn't redeem himself but it's a nice trip along the way.

Tár
(2022)
A different world
2 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Cate Blanchett's performance of a female superstar conductor is the reason to see the movie Tar. The film sinks us into the world of symphony. It's a learning experience (it was for me); engrossing. Think of the smartest person you know; say Einstein and look how messy the personal life can get. Do you want to now cancel him because you can with an edited video shown on the internet? Do you think it's right to abuse your fame to satisfy your ego without consequences? Would you like to see different outcomes? Is cancel culture the answer? Maybe. Lauer, Rose, Weinstein, Louis CK, Russell, Bonds, Soto, McGuire - all male versions of Tar. Hard to see such talent be reduced to less than what it was when it started. The missing piece here is apology and redemption. So even though we see Tar reduced to continuing her craft at a kind of country fair event (falling so far) it would have been more satisfying if she had voiced apologies to many she had hurt. Showing that even in disgrace, she felt remorse. Instead of hiding she decided to keep apologizing then going back to work with a new work ethic. That would have been a nice addition.
So Help Me Todd
(2022–2024)
One of the better shows
16 October 2022
So Help Me Todd is a fun legal dramedy mystery series with good performances. The running gags are humorous and the character development introduced so far is compelling. Can't find fault with anything about it. It's a light show not a serious detective drama. Very watchable. Hardin is a curmudgeon sometimes offers good contrast with Astin playing her private eye son whose recovering from bad decisions. I look forward to seeing how the show progresses and am optimistic it will get better. It's no Better Call Saul but it could get there. Maybe a karaoke scene is required to get some singing in the show!!

Very entertaining

Great cast and story is good. Action scenes are strong. Suspend disbelief required but isn't that part of the agreement when watching these action movies. Negative reviews are not warranted. One of my favorite characters is Miranda.

Funny cute

Watched two episodes so far and I'm enjoying the characters and storyline. One of my favorite actors is Nat Faxon and I usually like whatever he's in. I'd say this is kind of a workplace comedy with nice character development.

Fun movie

Cute fun movie for whole family. We were there to beat the heat and see that crazy buzz and the robot cat. Story is sweet and the moral a good one all set in space. So if you are looking for a space travel movie then this might be it. The kids in our theater clapped at the end!
Shining Girls

Wow great thriller
7 May 2022
I hardly recognize Amy Brenneman in this show. This is a great thriller and triumph for good reporting. Good journalism stories are rare. The story here unfolds at a methodical pace that adds to the suspense. Elizabeth Moss is as good as ever. Probably second to her Mad Men role.
So I'm 4 episodes in and wish I could just binge watch the rest right now!

With many news stories on the opioid crisis I didn't think I would watch this series. When Michael Keaton won a SAG award I felt it's time for a good binge. This show is very well done and so many great performances. And I'm so glad when I had a kidney stone I said no to OxyContin.
West Side Story

Thank you for a surprising rendition

I was feeling kind of unenthusiastic about seeing WSS as I've seen it before many times on stage and previous film. I was pleased to be so drawn in to this version. Added backstory really gave me reason to care about the characters. Wonderful singing and choreography.

If you like tennis...
23 November 2021
You will like this movie. Will Smith gives a spot on performance as Mr. Williams. The tennis scenes are good and pick up on a couple frustrating tactics in Junior tennis that show how sometimes gamesmanship wins out (unless you're prepared for it). I'm referring to bad line calls by players and strategic bathroom breaks. It's part of the game.

New to Dune

I have not read the books nor seen the previous film version. So I am very pleased to say Dune kept me glued to the screen. Pace good and casting seems perfect. Acting performances was just perfect. Looking forward to the rest of the story.
Stillwater
(2021)
Unique murder mystery
3 August 2021
Matt Damon's character in Stllwater as an unemployed oil rig worker who is out of his element in Marseille France adds to his acting range. It's a quiet performance that reminded me of Duval's performance in the film Tender Mercies. There's a good murder mystery here as well in Stillwater. I didn't mind the running time because I never lost interest.

Damn it
5 March 2021
I'm glad I watched this. The story revolves around court appointed guardianship and how our laws are lacking in the area leading to elder abuse. There's more to the movie but that aspect really drives home a point, which you can discover when you watch it!
Better Call Saul
(2015–2022)
I keep rewatching
26 January 2021
Every year I rewatch the seasons. There is so much detail and character development that it feels fresh even if I'm on my fourth go round. The episodes can stand alone but there's a continuing narrative in the first few seasons. As we move on in seasons the action and driving story commands watching fast and feverishly.
