Death Valley (2021)
Green and slimy...
"Death Valley" is an average horror thriller with a basic story, a classic plot and a development that pumps merrily in the standards of the genre. The pace is quite sustained, but fails to hide the many flaws in the script and the poverty of the characters and their dialogues. The narrative is fluid and the narration is linear. The photography is rather interesting given the low budget devoted to the film, the soundtrack is sober and the editing offers a film of the right length to avoid sinking into boredom. The cast offers poor performances where only Kristen Kaster pulls out of the game. The whole thing can be watched, but really cannot be the subject of a recommendation. A film that we can dispense with...
47 Meters Down: Uncaged (2019)
How to become shark bait !
"47 Meters Down: Uncaged" is a fun shark movie, featuring a story with a touch of originality, a classic plot and a simple development. The pacing is consistent with the genre, the narrative is fluid, and the narration is linear. The photography is very nice but the aquatic scenes make you lose track a little in all the fuss. The soundtrack is sober and the editing is rational. The cast offers decent performances in the service of particularly flat characters where almost all of this cast serves as a meal for hungry predators. The whole can be watched with a certain tension and a lot of nervousness as to the reactions and attitudes of certain characters. It remains to be seen whether all this is satisfactory enough to continue to operate this franchise ?
Old (2021)
The damage of age...
"Old" is a good thriller with an original story, a captivating plot and careful development. The pacing picks up gradually, the narrative is fluid, and the narration is linear, with the story unfolding over 48 hours. The photography is sumptuous while offering a disturbing aspect to a beach that one would easily judge as being idyllic. The special effects presented the effects of aging are very well done. The few gore scenes are rather punchy. The soundtrack is sober and the editing is mastered despite this recurring tendency of the director to send the last explanations, keys to understanding the plot, in just a few minutes. The cast offers good performances overall without one actor in particular doing well. The whole thing is a pleasant surprise and demonstrates that M. Night Shyamalan can still surprise us while entertaining and inviting us on second thought. In this case, on the devastating effects of aging...
The Gray Man (2022)
Basic but terribly dynamic !
"The Gray Man" is a very good action thriller with a basic story, a classic plot and a singularly dynamic development. The staging is close to perfection, but the script is too simple and built around too many clichés of the genre. The pace is frantic, the narrative is fluid, and the narration is linear. The photography is excellent with many action scenes, shootouts and explosions follow one another until the final outcome. The soundtrack is the perfect accompaniment and the editing allows the film to maintain a high level of tension and velocity. The distribution offers very good performance. Ryan Gosling is perfect as a casual professional killer while Chris Evans surprises in the role of a bloodthirsty psychopath. When it comes down to it, it might not be the smartest action movie Netflix has produced, but it's probably one of the most entertaining.
Infinite Storm (2022)
Damn, how did he get up there ?
"Infinite Storm" is a good dramatic thriller with a simple story, a mysterious plot and a very visual development. The pacing is consistent, the narrative is fluid, and the narration uses several flashbacks. The photography is sumptuous, the soundtrack is pleasant and the editing is pleasant. The cast offers honorable performances, but it is essentially the performance delivered by Naomi Watts that gets all the attention. The set is attractive, turns out to be a very beautiful sight for the eyes, and above all, deserves much better than the poor reviews about it. To discover !
Malnazidos (2020)
Simple, basic but effective !
"Valley of the Dead" is a good little zombie movie with a simple story, classic plot and basic development. The rhythm is well balanced between palavers and action scenes. The narrative is fluid and the narration is linear. The photography is pleasant, the music is pleasant and the editing is coherent. The distribution offers good performances overall, but does not avoid falling into certain clichés of the genre. The set fulfills its entertainment function, but will not be memorable in this regularly visited theme.
Shadow in the Cloud (2020)
Simple but effective !
"Shadow in the Cloud" is a good little action movie with an original story, a simple plot and an atypical development. The unstructured rhythm, with a rather slow, almost boring first beat where the plot settles, then everything gets carried away energetically until the final outcome. The narrative is fluid and the narration is linear. The photography is fairly straightforward and some special effects are mixed, the soundtrack is pleasing and the editing is cohesive. The cast offers good performances, but the whole thing is held together by the performance of Chloë Grace Moretz. The set is a pleasant surprise and offers a good little moment of entertainment, while delivering a message in tune with the times.
Shark Bait (2022)
Without surprise !
"Shark Bait" is an average horror movie with a classic story, a familiar plot and a simple development. The pace gradually intensifies, the narrative is fluid, and the narration is linear. The photography is bright but very sober, the animation of the shark is of a good level, the special effects are quite effective. The soundtrack is especially striking in moments of extreme tension and the editing is rudimentary. The distribution offers modest benefits where only Holly Earl offers an interesting character. The whole thing can be watched, but does not revolutionize the genre and therefore cannot benefit from our recommendation.
