Velma (2023)
I'd rather watch Scrappy Doo
Why?! Clearly the people behind this have never watched a single anything of Scooby Doo. This is the only explanation for this poorly conceived excuse to milk more money out of a beloved, 54 year old franchise. Even the live action movies maintained a high level of charm and innocence while introducing more adult levels of humor.
But this?? This is vulgar, crass, unimaginative, and the worst adjective, lazy. Had this shown any signs of intelligence, I may have been more forgiving. Alas, someone decided that ruining the legacy of everyone's favorite dog would be easier than creating something that would be cherished more than 50 years after its inception.
I always thought Scrappy Doo was the worst thing inflicted on my beloved Scooby Doo, not anymore.
Holiday Date (2019)
Annoying and boring
This is the only Hallmark Christmas movie I have ever stopped watching midway through. The actor/boyfriend was too stupid for words, making all the interactions with the family painful and awkward. I love these movies because even though they are predictable, they're fun to watch and the primary characters have chemistry and intelligence, even if they all make the same stupid mistakes. There was no chemistry, or intelligence, in this one, and I hope it never airs again.
Xanadu (1980)
Number 1 Guilty Pleasure
This is definitely not a movie for everyone, but I'm not afraid to admit that it's my favorite guilty pleasure. The acting is marginal (forgive me Gene Kelly), the dialogue is trite, and the plot, well...
Olivia Newton-John is sent to help Michael Beck realize his dreams by becoming his muse. Along the way, she winds up helping both of these men fulfill their dreams, while realizing that she has human feelings of her own (being Zeus' daughter has its drawbacks).
I won't try to convince you that this is a great movie, it's hard to combine 40's jazz with 80's glam/punk, but if you can keep an open mind, you might enjoy yourself, even if you can't admit it to anyone.
