Wish (2023)
Wish was not as bad as people say, see Wish's message
"A disney flop". I've heard complaints about the animation for being "lazy". And yes, it's another style compared to Frozen or Brave, a little more flatter. But I think they still delivered the message. Besides, I also liked the soundtracks a lot.
Maybe for kids the movie's story/main plot is a bit far stretched or "complicated" but from an older perspective I can see what they wanted to say and I think it's a beautiful message. My interpretation of it is simply what was said in the movie, that the king took away his people's humanity to be able to control them. And I think the people being "stars" was a beautiful way of showing humans standing together against a "government" that doesn't care for all the individuals. It matches the state of the real world. The people who's hearts resemble stars are fighting for freedom and happiness, it's something we see now in real life and I think it's beautiful how they mirrored that in the movie. We won't let someone take control and make sure our wishes don't come true because our deep wishes is what makes us whole and keeps us striving.
I agree that the animation itself lacked something but I see the potential. I was happily surprised when the movie, in my opinion, turned out to be much better than I heard it would. Wish has a nice and touching message.
Them (2021)
Very good, very disturbing
This series was very good, creepy in a special and intense way. Perfect for horror lovers. It really creeped me out. It wakes feelings and you can't stop watching it. Incredibly good shooting and cinematography, cool setting, great actors and overall a very well written horror-show.
Anyhow it is very disturbing. And not just the atmosphere which is very heavy and creepy during all the ten episodes but also a lot of the scenes. The violent scenes are gory and sometimes shocking. A lot of things happening but most of the scary scenes in the last episodes are all very violent. The series is about racism and had many strong and deep references, symbols. Although the racism in this series is very heavy and disturbing. Sensitive watchers are warned.
Overall this series was great, horrifying, creepy, deep, but some of the scenes were just too much.
Monster High (2022)
Horrendous, if not distgusting
Horrible interpretation of Monster High. Costumes are the worst thing I've seen in my whole life, and yes, it can't be on point, but it's not even close and the original outfits are too iconic to be completely offended by this disaster in the worst way possible. This is a wannabe Descendents x Zombies and it totally failed to even do that. It's a children's movie, yes, but as a fan of Monster High as I grew up watching the animated movies, playing with the dolls I still feel like I can have an opinion on this.
Second of all, the characters don't even got the same personalities, the iconic friend groups are scattered and again, I am utterly disgusted by the clothes. The plot is off. I didn't even watch the whole movie because I didn't want to waste time, or perhaps I could continue if I want to have a good laugh.
Then there are a lot of details in the so-called "cinematography" that are off and odd, but that's not important because I didn't expect it anyway looking at the first trailers and posters.
On the bright side, the ghouls' phones are the same coffin-shape as in the original.
I hope whoever made this will spend their money on something better, maybe donate to charity instead of traumatizing people with a catastrophe so bad it doesn't even deserve a 1/10.
Quarantine (2008)
Good but a bit too much for me
I love these movies that give you an impression of the characters filming it all themsleves, it really sets the mood and makes it even more scarier on a different level but I think movies can be scary even if they do not contain severe gore and brutal visuals.
I think that this movie was good anyhow, it was scary, definitely bringing out many of the horror elements. Although I don't think, and this is over all and in general speaking of horror movies, I do not think it's necessary for them to show us so much of the gorey bits. I even think it's way scarier when, in a movie like this (hand filmed), you don't see what actually happens and you can imagine yourself what's going on out of the camera frame or in the darkness. For example as in the first movie of the Blair witch project, we don't see what happens during most of the scary scenes, but we can imagine ourselves and it's still horrifying, almost even more horrifying. But of course it depends on if you like gore or not, but personally I think gore over all is overused and unnecessary, it just grosses me out and I get more focused on these disgusting scenes rather than the story or meaningful sense of the movie itself. The gore, as in smashed heads and intestines laying around and more, usually doesn't even add to the story, it just creates a gut wrenched, disgustingness. Most of the time gore in movies and series can even seem unproffesional in some terms.
I liked this movie but I would appreciate more if they removed the most unnecessary bits of the gore.
The Lodge (2019)
Some details bothered me.
I honestly think this was a great movie, I mean the movie itself. It had great potential with the story and all the details, the cinematography etc. The plot and plottwist about how the kids tricked their stepmother Grace which made them the bad ones here if I put it that way, I was pretty shocked there.
Since there were not really any unrealistic things happening in this movie after knowing that everything Grace heard and went through in the lodge was caused by the children punishing her, some things were pretty unlogical and it bothered me. For example that the father was somewhat stupid in a lot of ways, he leaves his children with his new girlfriend in a lodge, in the middle of nowhere almost instantly after their mother dies from suicide.
Another scene where the dad shows Grace a gun, which was pretty randomly to me and a detail that annoyed me. He probably wanted to show her how to protect them if something happened, but I don't think it would be necessary when you're out in the middle of nowhere where no other people are at. But no, the story would not be the same if she didn't have the gun in the end. I also finds it odd how the dad wrote about his GIRLFRIEND and soon wife and the christian cult she was in when she was a child in his own book about cults. Love is love, of course and without those scenes the movie wouldn't be the same but those were just small details that bothered me since they were pretty unrealistic to me.
Except this I think the movie was pretty good, a good twist and a good plot. A bit slow but that's not bad if you ask me. This movie was not really what I expected but I still enjoyed it.
