Warm, funny and alert
30 November 2013
Many have said about how intelligent, ironic and dark this movie is. So let me just say that this movie is also very warm - although it contains tons of killing, is very funny - although it deals with life and death situations, and is very alert - it makes you live together with the characters. And this is the goal - to get you out of your comfort zone and live in the moment. Brilliant. Very good acting and directing (love Mr. Murray and the girl is worthy match), all comes together right into place. Seeing old stupid Police Academy, would have never thought that the guy with funny voice and silly gags will create such a masterpiece.

Mother, would you unlock me?
29 March 2013
Do you know these films where everything - acting, shooting, story telling, directing - works together to emerge into a clear message? This is such a film.

Reading bad reviews upfront, was afraid about getting bored from being too long, or dizzy from excessive use of hand held camera. Happy to report none of them apply. Instead, last frame was finding me quite surprised about how fast it was finished.

This film reminds me very much of "A separation" of Farhadi. They touched me in the same way, although the stories were different. That is because both stories are just recipients for emotions.

And in the end, this movie is full of emotions, human, universal, atemporal emotions. And that is what makes this film great.

Very enjoyable
27 August 2012
Yes, story does not bring something new. It deals with common and trivial situation of growing up. Yet, my idea of movies added value is to help you learn about yourself by vibrating with presented common experience, rather than finding the unusual.

And yes, is almost a one man show, but what a show. Charlize play is so real and enjoyable, that is almost frightening. And although you will strongly disagree with character actions, the strange affinity build up somehow will stop you from judging, but nursing and admiring her.

Other casting is quite enjoyable. Wilson is believable, his choice of roles is getting better after some bad beginning. Other guy from United States Of Tara is really great.

This is a must see for middle aged up.

Good and underrated
20 August 2012
Its getting harder and harder to find good movies based on IMDb ratings, after seeing blockbusters. Perhaps searching for comedies/drama having around 6.5 is good strategy.

This film is great in its story and simplicity. It might not say lot to a teenager, that sees life with optimism of not experiencing it, and it might seems boring for actions seekers. For me it was rather realistic and optimistic at same time, combination hard to find in movies, and what makes them great. Life is change, so live it and change, and if you stick with your comfort zone change will come all over you. But in the end, you are alive.

Directing is good to excellent, especially by being able to convey same message to all actors and crew. Therefore acting is good also, even if Farel is not best actor.

Overall enjoyable and to be remembered.

It gets better and more addictive by each episode
28 February 2012
Very surprised by show's rating, gave it 10 to even score a bit. Lucky HBO did broadcasting it, otherwise based on IMDb rating shall had never watch it.

This show starts slow, and, as others have written, a bit confusing, not knowing what bread it is. But it grows in me by each episode, becoming addictive by having an unique mix of creativity, human nature sincere exposure, and lot of common sense. Very much liked the non-intrusive way of telling a story of a personality which, although is not of my taste at all, manages to make me sympathize with, and perhaps understand and accept.

Well done.

Caprica (2009–2010)

This is not BSG substance
4 June 2010
Like most other BSG fans was eager to find some spirit of series in this new TV show. But as new episodes appears, sadly noticed not much substance to be found, at least till now.

For first, Caprica seems to have a different target audience than BSG. Perhaps because it enters the virtual world more straight forward, producers would think that teenagers would be main audience. Or is it the other way around? You will see lot of youth passion for changing the world. This is OK, but please start adding soon some gray shades in this black and white image.

At least till now, Caprica lacks of consistency given by great dialogs and situations encountered in BSG. Peace is quite slow, not much is happening, and character's actions seems forced and not always realistic, so I found it hard to relate to any of them. Main characters are teenagers, trying to behave above their ages, but mostly trying to much. Well teenagers or adults does not really matter, same as sci-fi or not, but please please just start adding some value in the dialogs!

Is infinite harder for sure building success from scratch rather than from choosing an already successful story and improve it. But I surely hope they will nail it and hopefully very soon, before loosing any interest.

Man this director sure has it
13 December 2009
This movie have definitely few strong points, and the surprisingly alert rhythm from start to end is first to be mentioned. Directing vision is superb, with lots of moving cameras, over exposed shots, flashy close-ups of characters and great arrangement of music. Also worth mentioning ingenuity and beauty of the terrorist attack construction. All of this make the movie enjoyable to watch even for a person not thriller fan like myself.

Not much to comment about acting in an action movie like this. They are all average with an exception. Forest Withaker manages to add a touch of his enormous talent with ease and sensibility as he always does. What a great actor.

This movie has few flaws for sure, but not many and pardonable in front of such thrilling experience. Maybe just worth mentioning the story, which is stupid, superficial, and makes me sick because of propaganda. But definitively not boring. Oh, and always before a car crush, collision, bullet or sudden death everyone has to say something like sheet - this is childish.

Overall great thriller, it delivers what you would expect from such genre. Because it delivers also hidden propaganda, it gets only 6.

Better than expected
9 December 2009
This movie is built around a short story. Therefore gaps need to be filled in order to achieve a full movie script, and this was achieved better in some parts than others. Movie belongs more to fantasy genre rather than SF, and few times I would prefer not to have so much "martian" involvement in the plot. But overall the story is well told, enjoyable to watch and philosophical enough to arise questions about our own morality and set of values.

I particularly enjoyed the play of lead actors, being for both a step forward towards "serious" characters, and they both are credible and engaged. I definitely see (and want to see more) Camerion Diaz as a strong artist covering a wider range of characters, and this role is a wise step forward. James Marsden is not my favorite, with his roles created especially for the dandy face, but here was surprisingly enjoyable and dedicated.

Overall the movie is fun to watch, it has a good story, and a consistent "old movie" style directing. It invites you to think after seeing it, and this is a quality somehow lost on many of todays movies.

Surprisingly good
13 November 2009
First, great story - brilliant strip of characters to raw emotions, simplicity and beauty.

Second, surprisingly acting from Loren Horsley, virtually unknown to me. She manages to transmit such powerful emotions with just her bright and peacefull eyes.

And third, great directing, and great musical arrangements. This movie reveals gradually characters and raw human emotions at a brilliant pace, and you will find loving not only each of the characters but the whole frame in the end.

Worht mentioning the animated sequences, used with caution and revealing delightful metaphors.

Oh what a film
7 August 2009
Built around an exceptional story, this film manages to meets its high standards and deliver the great message to viewers in such a natural and inspiring manner. Well done!

Acting is very good, all actors are dedicated to the role, really all did a great job, and you can see the passion of playing something real. For me was a big surprise the women playing the Margo character, she is such a powerful acting.

Directing is doing a very good job in revealing growth of the troubled soul during the film. The bowling scene is particularly brilliant.

Overall this is one of the most powerful movies of the decade, and I bet it had a pretty low budget :)

Live and appreciate
31 July 2009
Interesting story, decent movie, did not make a stunning impression but it sure throws some questions about life and priorities. Although it did not manage to avoid cliché all the times, the story rises some feelings. Mine were not very pretty, as I thought the girl is crazy and the boy weak, so I wanted to shoot them both. But the feelings were there. Mrs. Winslet seems a bit artificial by trying too much to be real. The parallel story of freak couple is nice but invasive. Get your own movie! Still the end tag is great: start the future right now! So not a wasted time in the end, but a good feeling of appreciation of what we have.

Yet not another teenage movie
31 July 2009
Yet another teenage movie. Could be fun, but not much expected. This is the thought I had before getting started. Well, boy I am glad I was wrong! This film is really a joy to watch, and you can feel the passion of people working on it throughout the whole run. Well done! The story is great written, about finding its own way in life, its own identity and its own values. All characters are interesting and very real. It is surprisingly refreshing how the story manage to avoid cliché and send a true message. The acting of main character is great, I really like this boy! Who is it? Well done mister. Great film, increasingly enjoyable to watch till end.

General failure
4 July 2009
I did not read the comics but I did come with open mind to see this film and perhaps high expectations based on reviews and user ratings. But what a disappointment! The plot is terrible, action is boring, with few scenes of unnecessary raw violence and meaningless philosophy. It has its tries to develop an interesting plot, but each time fails getting somewhere.

The acting is average, and every actor seems that it tries to much. And this is for me the overall image of this film, trying to much to accomplish a great symphony. But in the end just manage to leave noise in my head and the bitter taste of disappointment.

So hey super heroes fellows run to see it, this film is just for you (only).
