Dance Flick (2009)

Their humour has expired
31 August 2009
Just like Steven Seagal should have stopped making films long ago, the Wayans Bros should have stopped while they were at a high.

Only 10 people filled the cinema seats, including me. I was tempted to leave half way as there was no story to keep me interested, but the humour is nothing inventive.

You will find yourself laughing at some of the slapstick that's thrown at you, but the film is a real waste of good money and time. I don't think even Five.TV will want to show it either, and they're good at putting really dire films on.

Choose another film to watch. The Wayans Brothers have had a very good run over the last 17 years and they should leave it at that.

I mean, even the one single fart-joke was badly used in one scene. It's the one last weapon for a laugh in a film and they still managed to bodge it all up.

It's a GOOD compilation
8 November 2006
I should challenge the above comment - I think its a great piece for people new to Laurel and Hardy. It depicts everything they're good at, and actually does warrant you to look for the original films to see where the clip came from.

I was already a fan when I first watched this (aged 9 during the BBC and Channel 4 viewings in the late 80s) and I found this to be a complement.

I actually should look for my old VHS recording of this.

Where the hell is Joe Buck?!
17 August 2005
What's all the fuss about? Well, first of all, it was played on UK TV last night, but it wasn't the comments that made me want to watch the film, it was the Harry Nielsen theme tune that made me want to watch it. I downloaded the mp3 a couple of years back, but it was pleasant to now match the song to the right picture...

Midnight Cowboy is indeed a great adventure of a film. To describe Joe Buck here is to spoil it for you to let your imagination paint his character, because thats what the first 10 mins of the film does.

Try doing what he did - to traverse from the big country to a big city, where Joe isn't contaminated by the dark traits of city life, where no one says hello to each other on the streets, where people fear of being robbed, where people walk with heads down. No, no... Joe Buck treats everyone equal, with a nice massive "Howdy to y'all from Texas".

I couldn't lose concentration while watching the film: you actually do become involved. I had to keep reminding myself that the film is nearing 36 years old and that the entire cast is aged.

It's definitely worth a view. R2-DVD's are cheap.

Yes and no...

Of all episodes (I know this is a feature film), this one will come across as quite grim. On the whole, this is the only episode where viewers will see the Hulk 'extra' angry.

ITV (UK TV) showed this in the mid 90's, which was generously cut. As a result of this the film lost its 'anger' identity for the entire plot, rendering the story useless (evidently it was edited terribly - with VHS style Pause/frame motion movement when changing to the hulk).

However (oh is this good news(?)) the good came when our channel Five played the film in its entirety a couple of years ago. It showed David's real fear of being attacked in a train, and when he turned into the Hulk, it was the first time we saw the Hulk with the intent to kill. He was ultra angry. He was ripping the seats off and snarling like a rottweiler!

Specifically during a scene at a Court, Banner was at his Hulking-best (he was even choking one of the lawyers with his hand - one of the many scenes deleted by ITV).

After it being aired on Five, the restored savageness could now justify the crap story. When ITV played it they literally killed off the point of the story... which was basically saying that David is getting a bit **s*ed off with his alter ego.

A Voyeur of what happens to the characters...
10 August 2003
I never knew there ever was a sequel to American Graffiti, until this was shown for the first time on Sky Digital (uk only) in 2000.

While this film is more or less an update of the characters from the first film, American Graffiti 2 would be pretty useless if you haven't seen it, thus it should carry a 'pre-requisite' label if it is to be appreciated.

Don't expect this to bear the same feeling as the first film; while the rock and roll gave some gravity for AG1, this film has a somewhat depressing tone to it. You'll probably only want to watch this film once anyway, so if I was you, wait until some TV channel schedules it than to buy it.

Unless otherwise you have a flair for filming techniques, you may like to see this film if you want to witness George Lucas' experimentation with multi-angle filming.

Anita & Me (2002)
Excellent film... which will be forgotten
28 November 2002
I find it refreshing to see a film that contains an insight into other cultures.

I found it had a similar foundation as East is East; if you care to share my feeling of the film, Anita and Me was nice and sweet, while East is East was salty.

The story is indeed a solid piece of work. It tells the life of a 12-year-old girl living in the East Midlands in 1972, where she is discovering a more advanced way of life - teenage angst in other words.

The cast were superb - fine piece of acting from those familiar BBC faces. It is such a shame that the film will be forgotten.

Choose this instead of James Bond (Die Another Day clashes with this at the cinema) - at least you get to see James Bond every Bank Holiday Monday.

Gripping, superb... excellent
3 June 2002
After looking through these pages I have just realised that this film was indeed a remake – but all the better I would now want to see the original because this film was indeed a superb piece of work.

I went in the cinema with the idea in mind that this film will make an update to the 80's classic `Back to the Future'. My judgement changed soon, as `Time Machine' has the same ‘seriousness' as the film `Frequency', with Dennis Quaid.

I was very moved throughout, for his time-travel attempts were to prevent his loved one from being killed – don't worry, this is how the story begins and there is more to the story than where that came from. Just appreciate the very special effects of the film – they are just so believable.

I am quite surprised that the BBFC has rated this film for cinema exhibition as PG. Scenes involving the Morlocks are indeed very graphic and scary. Theyare way too intense and I can only imagine how my 6-year old nephew will react to it. I would expect the video to be rated 12.

Underrated film; Greek cinema at its best
2 January 2002
Aliki Vougiouglaki plays a character who lost her hearing as a child and has no communication skills, until a teacher new to the area crosses her path and falls for her, teaching her how to sign.

If you want a Greek film that can bring you to tears, this film will do just that. A digitally remastered DVD print is available in Greece, and I say it is well worth having a copy. Don't accept imitations sourced from rotten old film to VHS, where the film is as shonky as a 1920s silent movie and the colour is overpowered by green emulsion. I researched about this by the way - colour film will degrade if not looked after properly.

The DVD also includes vital scenes not shown in the widely bootlegged VHS tape, cut possibly due to film erosion.
