Speak No Evil (2022)
Type of film that will disturb you.
I personally love these type of films, it goes in a complete opposite direction to your normal Hollywood films.
There is no way most of this plot would make it past the test viewings. Which is why it's refreshing to see.
Warning.
Do not watch with children under 16, I have never said that before to any horror film but this film disturbs in a way that just feels to real not to distress young kids or adults.
The film is about two families who meet while on holiday in Italy, the couple get on so well that one of rhe couples invite the other to their home for a future get to gether / free holiday.
Silent Night (2023)
Makes no sense
Iblike the idea of a lead action star who doesnt speak, the best one's tend to say very little, Rambo, Terminator, Die Hard all have a lead not saying a lot which makes you side with him more, problem with this film is every main character doesnt utter a word, it makes no sense and kills any attachment you nornally make with a character and his journey, instead you find youself screaming at the screen speak, fot example when he returns from near death in a hospital his wife doesnt speak to interact with him at all, apart from a text message!!!
A policeman investigating a murder doesnt speak! It's a nice idea but it makes no sense on the screen.
Action scenes has no words but they include the grunts??
Not for me.
Killers of the Flower Moon (2023)
An interesting story made boring.
I had high hopes going in, the story and the characters seemed interesting but as others have mentioned its just too damn long with not enough happening.
The ending feels rushed and bizzare, which is annoying considering how flipping long the film is.
Any investment into the truth of what happened and also into Deniro and Dicaprio's performance seems wasted by the time the film ends.
It leaves you with conclusion apart from some strange newcast /theatre delivery which feels like a bad dream and includes Scorse giving a 20 second delivery.
I sometimes like an open ending or a few fact sentences at the end of a film but it just doesnt work for this film, the film feels incomplete.
Napoleon (2023)
The film has no heart beat!
Pheonix fails to deliver for this Epic film, he offers that distant expression, similar to the one he delivered for Johnny Cash.
There was no real thread to the film, the battle scenes were impressive but they were jammed in between moments of Napoleon looking sad, depressed & showing no part of his ego, anger or the reason why the french would fear or follow him or what drove him to want to concur other countries.
You could direct the blame to the director, who's decison to weave through chapters of his life with little interest in showing why he was in love with his first wife or show any chemistry building as just bizzare.
I hope this is the last of the biography genre for Pheonix.
Movie 43 (2013)
Love this film, modern day Kentucky Fried Movie
I don't understand why this film doesnt have a higher rating, it's a nod to Kentucky Fried Movie and is several short films in one, brilliant actors involved and hilarious and quirky stories tied in by some goofy teens, it deserves more love.
The search for movie 43 is the perfect film to just sit back and and laugh to, if you dont like one short the good news is there is a completely new one starting in a few minutes time, I wish they would make more of these type of films, it must be a lot cheaper to produce and it really allows the imagination to start racing with some of the nutball ideas they come up with, my favourites include the boy who gets home schooled by his parents and Stephen Merchants and Halle Berry's date, to be honest there are non that I dont like.
Calvaire (2004)
Most unique film I have ever seen.
I declare myself a movie buff, I can normally guess the outcome of a film correctly after two minutes having seen thousands of films.
This film is funny, original, and gives you so many fake turns that you genuinely have no idea what is going to happen next.
The actors and the writing is also underrated.
